  1. I don't know anymore that I'd accept a laggy infotainment to be honest. If I'm buying a car I want to set the radio and heating controls etc when I start the engine, not sitting for one minute and then doing it. Looks like all this nonsense about the car having to login is such a major cause of many of these issues. It is so unecessary really, I couldn't care less about user profiles. It is a car, you're meant to be driving it !!
  2. I know that, like any forum, this place and this topic is a bit of a void....i.e. people are generally here discussing this solely because they have problems with their MK4. So there might be thousands of people out there loving their MK4 and not got a single problem with it, hence they aren't here talking about it. On the basis several of us are seeking to return our cars, some have their car on order but are wary, and some are trying to make a decision, can I ask does anyone know as fact that these are a bad run of isolated vehicles that were produced (possibly early/mid 2020) and not ALL MK4's have problems? If I returned me SE First Edition, is it safe to swap for another SE First Edition as long as it is a recent build? Should I trade upwards? Or do higher models have the same issues? I think mine has had every issue possible now, bar KPH/MPH, yet for some it is the only issue reported. Surely not every single MK4 on the planet has an issue? Or do they? Are we better to leave Octavia and/or Skoda behind altogether?
  3. Going to write and formally reject my car. Been out last two days to witness a catalogue of errors, now including a permanent warning that the oil sensor is faulty. I'm up at the ceiling at the moment, livid is too light a word...
  4. Already had two errors since as well.
  5. Not sure then sorrg, I thought the MK4 Octavia's would all be the same, just had a courtesy Fabia with the same layout as my Octavia.
  6. Have the cruise switch on the left stalk set to on. On yr steering wheel, press the button above the silver dial on the right. Menu will appear on your dash. Use the silver spinner to scroll down to Cruise Control on the menu and press the silver spinner in to select. Press the button above the silver spinner again to switch off menu. There will be better names for these buttons, but I am not sure what they are!
  7. Oh actually, you did say Swing! Weird, none that came up looked like it.
  8. Ah yeah, Swing is the one. That explains why I googled the three names you mentioned and none liked correct!
  9. Pass sorry...I'm not up on all the radio names and types... It's an MK4 SE First Edition, so whatever radio they have !!!
  10. Software version (I think) is now showing as 0892. I've photographed the whole of the system information though, in case I am quoting the wrong number.
  11. I didn't have the KPH issue, but have had everything else under the sun (this was the most obvious thread at the time to join, although now it seems there is a new post every thread about software!) Will investigate later re software version, although IIRC my car gave no info on numbers other than 0891. There is, or was, no menu which specifically used the words 'software version' so I am not sure which number to quote back.
  12. Have my car back and seemingly okay so far. I'd been told that the wiring was to be checked, which I found strange. This was never mentioned more than once, and the cure to the car's ailments appears to have been various software updates. No idea if these were piecemeal and responding to individual issues or what. The way it was described certainly makes it sound like it was all itty bitty updates, who knows maybe even Skoda were writing updates based on my issues. It's still early days though, I don't want to say all is 100% fine until the cad has had some good and varied use again. Wouls be goos to hear what progress others have made, as a few people had big issues but have dropped out of this discussion. Please update us if things are going right, then we'll all know what the fixes were.
  13. Thanks for the info dudes, I've since searched a bit online and have found the following is definitely compliant: Mobil ESP X2 0W-20 The Mobil website confirms it is compatible with VW50800. Be wary, there is a review on Halfords of the standard Mobil 1 0W-20 saying that is not compatible with VW50800, so make sure you buy the stuff I have named. I'm getting 1litre from Euro Car Parts today for £13.49 thanks to discount code MID6O in their mid-month sale. Note that they sell it as Mobil ESP 0W-20 X2. Same stuff, but they've jumbled the name up. Thanks again for help, and hope my bit of extra info helps others.
  14. Yeah, I may give the local petrol station a whirl, I can't imagine I need even a litre but got the car's first really long run out this weekend and want it right. I will go buying cars just as lockdowns hit...
  15. Great stuff, many thanks for that.
  16. Has anyone got a definitive on which oil to use in the 1.5 TSI please (MK4) The manual is no help, no stickers anywhere on the car, my registration number is not even recognised on any parts websites. Just tried live chat to Skoda the best they could offer was make sure it meets VW50800. I did a quick search of Halfords and no oil is listed as meeting that spec and asked well is that 5w30 or 5w40 or other? They didn't know!!! Anyone know?
  17. I agree, which is why they'll make no difference to us unless all dealers pro-actively rolls them out. Which they won't. Oh...and Skoda UK never did follow up on my HJ complaint. They're not interested.
  18. This really needs to be OTA straight to the car and not so large that a dealer visit is required. I'm so annoyed that I got my car in December and I understand one of the updates applied to it dates before I even bought the car, yet the dealer neither applied the update in advance of collection, nor did they ask me to pop in to have it done. And the car didn't pick up the update OTA either. If these updates are left to the dealers to dispense then none of us are going to receive them other than if we keep asking if there are any updates, or at service time if you use the dealer. They aren't going to call us in for updates, as it doesn't bring any money in for them, and the service manager has a bottom line to think about.
  19. I've personally been polite with my dealer and haven't even hinted at not wanting the car (as I do, just not in the way it has been behaving), but whenever it is returned if even one error comes up I will instigate requesting a return...although my preference would be a swap for a zero mileage replacement...I am not paying the amount I am per month to have month upon month of going back and forth with issues. It is simply not the car that was advertised.
  20. I would just (for now) ensure you get a courtesy car from them, especially with the weekend coming up. I would also suggest, when you get the car back, to photograph/video all future errors (where safe, i.e. not while driving) on your phone so they are effectively date stamped. I have a few things recorded but will be recording everything possible when I get it back, for what my next step will be, which is: I imagine I would be looking to start the returns process, although I do not imagine I will have an easy ride with that. I'll do it by letter or email though and try to copy the finance side into it, so I don't get instantly fobbed off. I'd rather have my own car back, as a functional car though.
  21. Is that not the coast symbol coming on?
  22. Can I ask what you mean by "They have asked me to contact the dealer for them to run reports to the factory"? As in, run diagnostics on your car to...upload to Skoda? As far as I know, my dealer is liaising with Skoda but in terms of speaking to them to state what they are doing, then asking advice on what to do next. That isn't to say they aren't uploading data of any kind, but it hasn't been mentioned as part of what they are doing. Funnily enough I do have a car, which is referred to as a 'hire car'. Is that just what dealers refer to as a courtesy car these days, or are we thinking Skoda are actually paying the dealer to 'hire' the vehicles on our behalf? I wonder, just because I have still had zero personal contact from Skoda (despite HJ logging it with them), but wonder if this may be if Skoda know my vehicle is with the dealer already (and by all accounts in this thread it sounds the most Skoda are offering as help is telling people to go back to their dealer).
  23. It is to cover the whole range of issues I believe (Although K/MPH is the only issue others have reported that I have never had). The thing is, the first software upgrade I had actually introduced two new errors, I'd not had a front assist or parking sensor error until the update. So what does this demonstrate...That the software remains bug ridden? That the car parts and software can't interact properly? That the wiring used does not meet the spec needed for the computer hardware and software to work as needed? Maybe cabling IS at fault, but how on earth do they determine that if the cables aren't actually damaged in any way, without presumably replacing the entire wiring loom?! I can see me either getting back a car which will once again be showing errors as soon as it is back in my hands, or I won't be seeing it for weeks. The most troubling aspect is that now they are moving away from software, it shows that Skoda do not KNOW what is wrong with our cars.
  24. My dealer, having seemingly exhausted the software updates, has been requested by Skoda UK to inspect the wiring trail. First time I have heard mention that dodgy wiring could be causing faults. Also unsure how realistic a cause this could be, for such varied symptoms and given some would have no obvious link to inadequate wiring, i.e. symptoms come and go. Something not wired correctly surely never works. Plus I fail to see wht something like icons randomly not displaying sometimes would be linked to a loose wire or frayed/burnt cable. Weird, as it suggests Skoda UK not only don't know how to fix the issues from the outset, but obviously they don't know either what is even causing them.
  25. Skoda UK haven't even shown the courtesy of making any contact with me whatsoever. I don't expect them to at this stage, and from the 'updates' provided since HJ passed our details on I don't expect anything from them now even if they did. Nobody seems to have made any real progress beyond what is happening for those of us leaving their cars with the dealer for investigation/further software, and HJ doesn't appear particularly interested, probably because there are thousands of VW Group car owners suffering similar issues to each other.
