  1. No, I haven't had the chance to check the car myself yet. We both drive the car equally, and there were no warnings before the incident on the dash from either the oil level or oil pressure sensor. She'd be the kind to pull over and phone me even if the washer fluid level warning light came on 😉
  2. I'm possibly using incorrect terminology. The starter motor made its "chuuugh-chuuugh-chuuugh-chuuugh-chuuugh" sound. The engine itself never sprang to life. I should have mentioned this in the OP, but the mechanic confirmed that there was no oil in the car when he checked. I'll also note that there was no sign of any oil on the road behind where the car stopped, and we've never had any drips in the driveway.
  3. So my wife was driving our 2017 Superb Combi 2.0 TDi home the other day, when it suddenly cut out going up a hill. She tried starting it again, and while the starter motor would turn over, there was nothing from the engine at all. Bit of drama, because it was on a busy rural Irish road in a dangerous spot. Luckily some passers-by stopped and helped direct traffic around her. She called her breakdown assist, and got the car towed to his garage. On the roadside, he suspected injectors or "a diesel issue", but when he got it back and inspected it properly, he now says that the engine seized up due to lack of oil. I did get an oil level warning light come on one time last year, but I topped it up and it never came on again. The car was then serviced in a Skoda dealers in December 2022, and last time I checked the oil was probably 2 months ago, and it was fine. Like I said, no oil level or oil pressure light came on before this incident. So now the car needs and engine swap. He's looking for a donor engine now. Just wondering, has anyone come across this before? Engine failure due to lack of oil with no warning whatsoever?
  4. Get the Kopacek ones. They’ll work. I have their LEDs in my Combi boot lid.
  5. Nice one, well wear. Not many L&Ks about in Ireland, and feck all on sale at the moment, so importing was a good move.
  6. It’s a bit stupid that the two have very similar icons that don’t actually represent either function very well (an A inside a circular shape). I have to think hard to distinguish between them. They’re easily confused.
  7. Not every trim level has heated rear seats. You’d have the buttons if yours did. Mine (2017 Style spec) has heated and ventilated front seats, but not rear heated ones. It does have the 3rd zone aircon controls in the back, though (buttons with the blue and red lines in the image above).
  8. My post was in English. Other than Irish, which no-one would understand, I don’t know any other languages. 🤷‍♂️
  9. A 2016 Superb would have come with a MIB 2 infotainment system. Maps on VC are only supported by MIB 2.5 versions, which are found in later models (or MIB 3 on the very latest facelift models). Did you upgrade your infotainment system to a MIB 2.5 version too?
  10. Is you car an automatic? “Assistant for emergencies” (as it’s called in the manual) is only available on Automatic cars:
  11. Not mine but here’s one to get things rolling.
  12. Wow, that’s mad! Bet you didn’t expect to see your own photo (incorrectly, it turns out) used in an attempted to answer your question!
  13. I don’t have VC myself, so I can’t comment from personal experience, but I saw a post on Facebook today from a page that does remote coding for VAG cars. They had facilitated a VC retrofit on a 2017 Superb. Some of the photos shows a clock in the top centre. However, others has the traffic sign recognition display here, so maybe it’s an either/or thing.
  14. OP is from Glasgow, and the offer was extended to them, so I guess it only really matters whether they’re familiar with the locality or not. As for me, I always look up placenames I’m not familiar with, so I learned something new 🙂
  15. I think those bars in Convenience Consumers show the proportion of fuel consumption for each system in relation to each other, rather than a distribution of electrical power. In any case, it’s interesting because when I turn on the switch for my heated mirrors, it doesn’t show up on that screen - confirming that they’re not working at all.
  16. There’s a button on the roof that can turn all interior (roof) lights on or off. Another poster got caught out recently with it, thinking their lights were broken when they were just disabled. Obviously check this and other settings first.
  17. Scan for error codes for a start. Preferably with something that specialises in VAG diagnosis (e.g. VCDS/OBD Eleven/Carista).
  18. @MikeM46 a “68” reg is late 2028/early 2019, is that right? I’m not very familiar with the UK reg system. Where exactly in the menus was this option? I don’t think my 2017 car has it. Maybe it’s an MIB 2.5 thing.
  19. Makes sense @J.R., thanks. measured it there, and it’s 0v regardless of whether heating it turned off or on. So there’s the problem. As suggested above, it could be related to the seat module that doesn’t work. I still haven’t got around to getting that fixed. I think I’ll look into getting that done and see how I get on.
  20. I was a bit slow getting back to this, but finally did some more investigation tonight. Took out the mirror glass and hooked it up to a 12v supply inside the house. Mirror started heating instantly. So I know the element is good. Then I went out to the car with the multimeter and clipped it onto the heating wires. Turned on the ignition, and got a reading of 12.46 volts. This was with the mirror switch in the 0 position. Switching it to the heat position didn’t change the voltage. I then put the mirror back and turned on the ignition. The mirror didn’t heat up. Can anyone explain to me: 1. Why I’m getting 12v with the heating turned off? and 2. Why the mirror isn’t heating if it’s getting 12v? Clearly I’m not understanding something fundamental here.
  21. 280 engine is sill available on the Skoda online configurator. They’re probably not the kind of car that’s going to be sitting in stock (apart from the odd demo), especially during the current supply crisis. But I assume they’re there to order (if you can deal with the extended wait).
  22. For issue one, any satnav is only as good as the data it has. So clearly it has incorrect data about this road. It’s possible that the status of the road has changed fairly recently, and hasn’t made it into an update yet. But every satnav system has some mistakes in it. The street I live on became a cul-de-sac 10 years ago. Google Maps still insists I should drive through the block wall built at the end of it. Both the Skoda map and Apple Maps display it correctly. For issue two, that’s annoying. It should be smart enough to recalculate a different route if you obviously veer off the suggested one. For all it knows, there could be road works or a flaming bus crash blocking the road.
  23. Get a prying tool in the gap at the top, and pull out. It’ll snap off
  24. The Style trim in Ireland would be the equivalent to the UK's SE-L in terms of hierarchy, although there's differences. For instance Style doesn't get the full matrix LED headlights SE-L gets, and it gets 18" Anteres wheels instead of Zenith. So maybe the rear lights aren't the full version. That said, as I mentioned above, my 2017 Style has those bits of the lights working - however, I'm not sure if that came as standard or was part of some option, as I didn't buy the car new.
