Mine has got 20” wheels, and like yours doesn’t have different ride settings. The ride is as firm as I expected for an suv type vehicle. In actual fact, it’s not as firm as I feared it might be. I would have been happier with 19”s but the car was already built with 20’s. The wheels/tyres on these cars are heavy, and the only suspension for that weight is the tyre itself, also the suspension for the car has to be capable of safely getting a thing the size of a van or 4x4 around corners at car speeds, so you’re always going to get a firm ride. I guess the answer is the more expensive model with different suspension settings. Having said that, it’s worth checking the tyre pressures are correct and the transport blocks have been removed. You wouldn’t be the first person to get a new car that hadn’t been prepared properly….

The fact is EVs are currently more expensive than the nearest petrol/diesel alternative. The option packs just mean they can advertise the basic car at a certain price. It’s like the original Octavias where they did a 1.4 mpi Classic spec, that virtually nobody would actually order. The good thing about the options packs is they have meant there actually is a basic model, which is what I wanted. To answer your points above, front sensors are around £500 extra and also come with a rear camera. The Knobless dash is actually ok. I went for a test drive with a lot of prejudice against these screens but actually get on with it. I have found the system difficult to understand and set up initially, but once the penny drops and you customise it to your needs it works well. The average 10 year old wouldn’t even have to think about. 20” tyres, it’s a big car therefore it will have big expensive tyres. I guess your Kodiaq will have 19” tyres which you can get on the Enyaq. What is the difference, £50 per tyre ? You can’t really be in the market for a £30k to £50k car and be concerned about a £180 tyre. If the spec you need puts the price over a realistic level for you, then as you say, your move to ev is a way off. I made the mistake of having a test drive out of interest and then scrapping my motoring plan for the next 5 years to go ev now. Nobody was a bigger petrol head than me, but the way these things drive is brilliant, and I’ve spent less on charging in a month than I would spend in a week on fuel in my 1.4 tsi Octavia.

Everything I’ve read says “Max AC 3-phase rate: 11kW”, so I believe it is 3 phase capable but limited as you stated.

In that scenario an EV would probably need to charge anyway.

From what I’ve read about EVs and heat pumps, that dealer is reasonably correct. You will gain some range from having a heat pump in cold weather and the colder it is the more that gain will be. In the uk climate it would seem this gain is minimal and was more important on older EVs like 24 and 30 Leafs which didn’t have much range to start with. Something like an Enyaq already has a reasonable range so unless you need to push that range right to its limits I don’t think a heat pump will make much difference. (Disclaimer - this is my opinion based on what I’ve read, I understand this is the internet and I’m happy to be corrected.)

That’s the manufacturer not wanting to pay a repairing dealer for a new pump under warranty if it was only the seal. With the labour cost to get to that seal being more than the price of a pump for a retail customer, it would be a false economy for you to only get the seal done, if it was just that on yours. My coolant level was going from max to min in 1000 miles, with a small amount of coolant visible on top of the gearbox. Once I got it apart, there was evidence of a very slight weep from the pump itself. £496 sounds about right for a dealer to replace it .

I guess I misread it and the £873 quote is for a timing belt and the water pump, in which case that price makes sense. For what it’s worth, I wasn’t going to put mine back together without a new water pump belt as it was only £16 for the genuine belt. The original belt looked like brand new though and had done 80000 miles in 6 years.

I just replaced mine last month. I used a genuine Skoda water pump which comes as a complete part with the thermostats and their plastic housing, and a new seal. It cost me £207 for all the genuine Skoda parts - coolant pump assembly, drive belt, and 3 litres of coolant. It took me about 3 hours to fit it myself, but would think the book time for a garage would be about 1.5 hours, so how your Skoda dealer gets to £873 is beyond me...

Check the alternator output. Our Fabia was blowing headlight bulbs on a regular basis about a year ago, turned out the alternator voltage was too high.

It’s a good guide, I guess the bottom ends are similar? If I use this one every day it’s going to get a lot of 70 mph running which might wear it out faster than it’s current shopping trolley, spare car role.

Just serviced our 2011 1.2 Fabia which has a CHFA 44kw engine. It’s now on 143437 miles, doesn’t use any oil between services and runs as good as it ever has. Anyone on here got one with higher mileage ? It’s been in semi retirement for the last year, but I’m thinking of using it more to see if it’ll do 200k.

They are going to offer you to trade in your car (their computer or salesperson doesn’t realise you’ve already rejected it.....) for a brand new one. The car sales system as it is today doesn’t work without constant churning.

I always planned to keep my 2014 mk3 Octavia 1.4 tsi until it was 10 years old. I may actually keep it longer now. I very nearly traded it earlier this year for one of the last mk3 1.5 SE L estates but the stories of 1.5 issues put me off. I certainly wouldn’t get a mk4 based on what I read on briskoda. I may be old fashioned but I don’t want to work everything from a touch screen, I also don’t want or need all of the connectivity garbage that’s on them and seems to be the cause of most trouble.

I’d second that about normal mode. My 1.4 gets better economy in normal and sport than it does in eco mode, I personally find it’s nicer to drive in normal mode as well, so just leave it on that. There’s a link to my fuelly mpg tracker in my signature. Mine has consistently returned around 40 mpg (apparently approx 7.1 litres/100km), I don’t thrash it, but I don’t hang around and don’t try to get extra mpg. It gets what it gets. I love Diesel engines and used to make my living repairing them, but the emissions systems now are garbage. They have to eat their own sh#t with egr systems, dpf’s are a con - they have to literally burn diesel on a regular basis to turn soot into ash !! Ad blue is another complication/cost which is a sticking plaster to get Diesel through another decade.
