  1. Carried out a compression test today, no issues. Going to check the timing tomorrow and if that’s OK maybe pull the injectors for testing. Anyone else got any ideas?
  2. Got a 2018 VRS diesel and the alternator died. Started running rough at idle and put it down to really low voltage (6v). Changed the alternator and it’s now charging but the rough running remains. Got no codes in VCDS. Checked resistance of all injectors and they’re all OK. Really stumped on this so would appreciate any ideas. Going to check the timing first thing tomorrow just in case something’s jumped a tooth. TIA Alistair IMG_1740.mov
  3. Travall dog guard to fit mk3 estate. Excellent condition. Collection from Wolverhampton or delivery can be arranged. £50
  4. A brake upgrade to fit the mk3 VRS diesel. This upgrades the the front brake to the same size as the petrol (340mm). Complete with backing plates, calipers, carriers DS2500 pads and discs. Still plenty of life remaining in both. £300 - postage can be arranged
  5. Maybe price was a bit steep. £850 anyone?
  6. Here’s a set of 4 Extremes finished in dark gunmetal. All recently refurbished and in outstanding condition as you can see from the pictures. Tyres are matching Continental SportContact 7, 2 of which are virtually new. Tread depths are: 4.8mm 5.1mm 6.3mm 6.7mm Very smart IMHO, I’ve included a picture of them fitted. £1000 ono Located in Wolverhampton but I’m quite happy to travel to meet you if that’s helpful.
  7. A single genuine 19” Extreme in dark gunmetal. Some minor marks so ideal for refurb. Tyre is a ContiSport Contact 7 with about 2mm remaining. Looking for £100 collected from Wolverhampton.
  8. Yes, definitely something driven by either aux or cam belt. It’s under warranty so I’ll book it in today, hopefully won’t have to wait to long - not keen to drive it on the off chance it’s cambelt related.
  9. Yes, absolutely - the frequency increases with RPM.
  10. Car started squealing this afternoon, seems to come and go. Sounds like an ancillary of some kind or a tensioner/idler. Is there a common issue with these engines which causes this noise? TIA! IMG_0638.MOV
  11. Not been able to get a photo but here goes. Just back from holiday in the car, done around 1400 miles in total. I noticed before our return journey that the oil level had dropped probably 1/4 of the way between max and min so maybe 250ml. On closer inspection there’s loads of spatter on the inside of the chassis rail which definitely wasn’t there previously and seems to have been chucked around by the aux belt. The thing is that the texture and colour of this is more like grease when rubbed between fingers and the patch I cleaned off is still clean as a whistle 400 miles later, whilst the oil level has dropped slightly again. Has anyone encountered similar? I’m wondering if it’s possible for something to have been splashed up into the aux belt given all the undertrays etc. Ideas very much appreciated!
  12. It’s not quite that straightforward though is it? The age and mileage of a car is taken into account as well as the price paid. For example, you’re not likely to get far with a faulty electric window on a 10 year old 100k car you bought for £2k, a judge is unlikely to rule in your favour.
  13. BTW anyone know the size of the front ARB on a vRS Tdi?
  14. I’m half tempted to just grab a decent pair of drop links and ARB bushes and just change them.
  15. Hi all I’ve noticed a creaking/clunking noise coming from the front suspension when driving over speed cushions etc. It seems lower in pitch than a drop link but of course it could be. I’m thinking perhaps an ARB bush - are these a common problem? Car has 57k and dynamic damping. TIA!
  16. Yeah, at a 70mph cruise it seems to return about 45mpg
  17. I can’t even get that out of our TDI!
  18. Can’t say I’ve ever had an issue.
  19. In my situation I’m happy replacing a single tyre as they’re only a few hundred miles old. Normally I like to replace in axle pairs though.
  20. Just had to have the car recovered due to a split shoulder on my 4 week old PS4S! Ran over a stone, barely felt it then 2 mins later the tyre pressure warning comes on! No spare, although have recently been looking for one so had to call recovery. Now looking at £170 for a new tyre and not available until Tuesday. Just needed to vent! F****** cars!!!!
  21. I wouldn’t be driving on tyres older than 5 years anyway. Replace at that age regardless of wear. In practice I wouldn’t expect tyres in my hands to last longer than 2 years, as little as 3k miles sometimes!
  22. Given the choice I’d take the two-tone painted I think. Maybe doesn’t look quite as good but certainly more durable.
  23. Have you by any chance got the link for the R/S version please?
