  2. ^^ Nice work finding a Skoda reference
  3. IIRC the 34 bhp 1200cc VW engine was extremely reliable and fairly easy to work with :hobbles back to the geriatric ward:
  4. Störtebeker 1402 is not bad at all for a non-alcoholic lager
  5. Guam's Highway Code apparently requires license plates for ox carts?
  6. This is not, I repeat NOT, a train.
  7. Hooray, I see that one of Briskoda's most meaningless threads have come back! IIRC we reached 16,000 or so last time...
  8. Hi Bryan, great to read the good news and I do hope that the next round of tests are as encouraging as the last one. Joined the 'big C club' myself this summer, having a bladder tumour diagnosed and removed (and believe me, the camera was not the worst). Awaiting further examinations, but the quacks (actually extremely nice and competent all of them, and that goes for the nurses, too) do not look particularly worried. So hopefully I'm relegated to the 'small C club', without regrets. And hopefully it will be the same for you.
  9. Sorry to hear about your plight. I've been infected a few times, but only had the early symptoms (the bull's eye mark) and ten days on penicillin (phenoxymethylpenicillin) have always done the trick. There is a small risk that symptoms prevail, often called 'chronic borreliosis' or Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome, with the symptoms you describe (fatigue, joint illness and so on) but it is rare. Problem is that the symptoms are not specific but the same as for other diagnoses of a lot of 'difficult' diseases, such as fibromyalgia &c. And among specialists there is an ongoing discussion whether some doctors just pick the diagnosis more or less randomly, and then suggest expensive, long-term treatment in their own private clinics. There's a number of them in Germany. And be careful when you google. There's a lot of people who support that kind of treatment without giving any convincing scientific arguments. A second opinion is never wrong. For confirmation, more than one blood test is needed. 'Post-Lyme Disease' (symptoms that prevail after a penicillin treatment that apparently was successful, i.e. nothing found in new blood tests) will often go away on its own, but it can take time. Further penicillin treatment does not help. See http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/postLDS/ The most troublesome form, neuroborreliosis, cannot be diagnosed without a spinal tap. Hope you'll find a way out.
  10. Oh dear, oh dear. Maybe a good thing then that I haven't logged in frequently the last few months. As juan27 says, the Fav/Felly section have been a safe, friendly and comfy haven after visits in the OffTopic section (my visits there have also become less frequent. There are many kinds of British humour and the one that dominates right now is one I haven't managed to grasp - yet.) One reason for infrequent visits is that I am a boring driver with a boring bog standard Felly that - pleasantly boring - just toddles on at the mo. Another is that favguy's impressive conversion project is completed. I do take a look at Tom's likewise impressive projects now and then. It's lovely to see good craftsmanship - I won't ever be able to copy it, but i can appreciate it when I see it. I do hope the old Fav/Felly spirit will survive.
