  1. For me, the advantage is it doesn't need a data connection, especially when combined with a built-in Sat Nav that also doesn't require a data connection; very useful when travelling around the country (including to low signal areas) and/or abroad. I find built in Sat Nav also doesn't have a panic attack when travelling in areas with patchy or no GPS, e.g. amongst tall buildings or going through tunnels.
  2. Good to know; if so many cars are affected it should hopefully mean that VAG will sort the issue quickly. As others have suggested, this could be down to VAG forgetting to renew their access to the TMC system. A bit of a shambles, really. My previous car wasn't VAG and the TMC function worked fine for years, never noticed any break in service like this.
  3. It would be interesting to know if anyone with a relatively new Skoda is experiencing this problem too. That would rule out something along the lines of the TMC reception being intentionally disabled by Skoda after a specified amount of time (e.g. vehicles over 5 years old, etc.). I still doubt this is what has happened, as that would need to have been made clear to buyers at the point of purchase, i.e. TMC traffic report functionality included at the point of sale would be disabled after X years. My understanding is that this is how Skoda Connect works, where you get a certain amount of time included, and then it becomes at your own expense to keep it going beyond the original expiry date.
  4. Initial response from Skoda is to advise me to call Skoda Connect. I think this may be erroneous as the TMC service is not part of Skoda Connect, but will try it first anyway.
  5. We don't know that, could be a problem with the TMC supplier - I believe there are two in the UK although I'm not sure which one VW group use.
  6. In a way it's good to hear that it seems to be Skoda-wide as there is now some hope that it will be fixed. I am still awaiting a response to my email to Skoda. I expect they will try to fob me off to a main dealer, but if lots of people are reporting the same issue they will figure out that this isn't a vehicle specific issue that can be resolved via a dealer.
  7. I'm probably not very well qualified to help you solve this, but out of interest if you go to Menu>Traffic do you see any traffic information being reported? If not, do you see 'TMC' with a red diagonal line through it? If so, this is the same problem I and others have reported. Unclear how to resolve it at present.
  8. A very small amount of progress was achieved after factory resetting all settings - the DAB traffic announcements is now no longer greyed out. I think the traffic flow setting was also not greyed out initially, but has since become greyed out again. Still no traffic events being pulled through via TMC. I am going to try a general query to Skoda about whether they expect TMC to function for the lifetime of the vehicle, or if there are any problems with their own renewal of the TMC service. Will report back in due course.
  9. Further update, I have completed a firmware update thanks to another forum member, but unfortunately this appears to have made zero difference the problem. TMC still has a red diagonal line through it and the vehicle is receiving no traffic incident information. Looks like I am lurching towards taking it to a dealer, unless anyone has any other suggestions? I will probably give it at least a week or so just in case this is a temporary problem as others have reported in the past.
  10. After checking I currently have exactly the same. Interestingly, the greyed out options are both ticked, which I previously assumed would mean these are settings that are enabled with no option to disable, but you could also link it to the TMC problem and assume they're in fact greyed out because TMC updates are not being received.
  11. Agreed, I don't see how individual vehicles could selectively have their TMC reception disabled since it's a one way service, unlike Skoda Connect. I suppose there could have been some inbuilt 'clock' so that when a specified date is reached, TMC reception is disabled, forcing you to pay for Skoda Connect or have nothing, but that would be a pretty low/cynical move from Skoda. Plus it doesn't seem as though there is an obvious pattern to when people start developing this symptom.
  12. Hello, Not updated Skoda firmware before so please let me know if further info is required, but I would like to know if there is a more up-to-date firmware version available for my unit, and if so would anyone be able to help me out with a copy, please? Installed SW train version: MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0472T Installed SW MU version: 0472 Part number: 5Q0035874C Software version: H29.319.51_STD2Nav_EU Many thanks
  13. Good to hear. Specifically what box did you untick and tick again, though? As far as I know, there is no way to turn TMC reception off or on.
  14. I see there is another rather long thread on updating firmware - will post my firmware info there and see if a firmware upgrade is a) possible and b) resolves the issue.
  15. What I meant was that it is free from the end user POV, unlike Skoda Connect.
  16. Similar problem as per my thread. Wonder if it's a Skoda/VWG wide outage?
  17. Can't see TMC being turned off anytime soon, millions of drivers use it around the world. It has the advantage of not requiring a data connection as the information is transmitted via radio. And as I noted in my OP, the system is clearly still on as I observed it working just yesterday in another vehicle, albeit not a VW group vehicle. Just out of interest, since this didn't fix the problem, have they essentially given up and said they can't fix it?
  18. I believe there are two separate ways to obtain traffic data, one is the more basic and free method of RDS-TMC traffic events, and the other is a paid for service where traffic information is provided via a data connection, e.g. via a SIM card or mobile hotspot tether. I'm trying to do the former.
  19. Hello, I'm new to the forums and like most people, I'm here because I've come up against something that has me stumped! I have a 2018 Karoq, with a MIB2 Amundsen head unit. Currently using the latest official maps available on an original 16GB SD Card. At some point (not sure when but let's say over the past 2-3 months), the car has stopped receiving RDS-TMC traffic events. There is also a red diagonal line running through 'TMC', which suggests there is some problem with the feed of TMC traffic events to the car. After various reading around the topic I have played with things like tuning in to local FM radio stations, turning dynamic routing off and on again, rescanning DAB and FM bands, etc. and nothing seems to have kicked it into action again. Checked in another car parked up next to mine, and it pulled scores of traffic events via RDS-TMC within a few seconds of being turned on, so I know it's not a problem with the TMC system itself. I've also wiped my SD card and reinstalled the maps again from scratch, but that had no effect. I am beginning to think that this might be resolved with a firmware update, but happy to hear any alternative suggestions...? Will post firmware version in a follow-up post. Thanks in advance
