mine 7 years old and doesn't smell at all. 2nd from that year and neither had the problem.

Had a similar problem with my 8v but ONLY when I turn off the AC, it stalled when I investigated what happened when I turned off the ac and fan when it was jumpy... but with the ac on it is at a happy 1000

I got my 1.4 8v for 1,900. Auto trader is awash with them, check it out. AFAIK its all down to how much power you want, and the insurance group stuff. the 8v 1.4 is group 4 whilst the 16v is group 6

I managed to knock the switch out, looks like it should just clip back in but i need to open it up to access it, any ideas for how I go about doing this.

True, however, if you get a gps of some sort it should be able to give you an accurate speed read out. Mine is aprox 3 mph out.

Depending on my driving style i average from 29 mpg (silly ragging in low gears) to about 45 mpg (keeping revs low etc) . Thats for town. Motorway, assuming my speed is constant I get about 60mpg at about 60-70mph When flying (I.E flooring down motorway I get about 22mpg in 5th gear, this decreases as the revs increase, when topped out i get 21.8mpg)

Looks good. Is it worth buying spacers or making some myself? If I use spacers will the speakers still fit behind the original door panal?

Its normal, the --- is infinate mpg, as in your rolling without using gas, or your speed is decreasing. If you keep your rev counter COMPLETELY still, then it wont be irratic, but otherwise its normal to have it jump about.

Anyway I'm looking to replace the front doors speakers, got all the dimensions I need except the maximum mounting depth I have without making spacers, I don't want to do anything too complex at this point in time, so whats the max I have avaliable?
