  1. Ive completed this with the above aliexpress part. Seems much better, everything you need for £50 and has a nice storage box instead of an ashtray. Im tempted to swap cables around behind fusebox from 12v socket to rear wiper. This would make 12v sockets switched and rear wiper permanent. Cant think of a better way to get switched 12v sockets as i dont want to have to remember everytime to unplug my devices
  2. Thats what i will be doing this weekend, I've ordered a pack of these piggy back fuses. Would be great to convert the 12v sockets to switched but doesnt seem to be possible
  3. Will be coding this week when vcds arrives, this should sort issues. Does this white shroud stop fusebox connector from coming loose, im concerned it may come disconnect over a bump in the road.
  4. What a morning, spent the last couple of hours wiring in the dealer towbar harness behind fuse box. Definitely something i dont want to do again!! All went well apart from snapping the shroud surrounding the fusebox connector. I still havent figured out the workings around it. Is it possible to order a new one or should it be ok? Anyway i have lights on my bike rack so its working But ive been presented with several warnings Manoeuvre braking error Start stop error ESC error Tyre pressure error Park pilot error Im waiting on my vcds scanner coming so will coding it fix these issues or is it a combination of the battery being disconnected and no coding being done. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
  5. I realise canbus can react negatively to changes being made but surely changing a device from permanent to switch isnt changing voltage levels, Its just stopping the device being active after engine switches off
  6. I would prefer to convert my 12v sockets to switched, is this not possible. I would of thought just a matter of connecting the 12v socket cable to an unused switched fuse??
  7. Im hoping to change the boot 12v power socket to switched. I want it to come on only when ignition is on. Im going to check fuse box this weekend but is it just a matter of swapping the cable behind fuse 40 and connecting it to a fuse that is unused and ignition fed. Im thinking fuse 48 for blind spot monitoring. This doesn't seem to be a feature on my 2018 octavia.
  8. Ive just been reading this. Cant believe the 12v sockets are permanent, cant think of a good reason for this. Will have to get a hardwire kit for the dashcam i think. Does anyone know if you can change the 12v sockets to switched. I have top drop the fusebox this weekend in order to wire in my towbar cable
  9. I installed a dash cam in my 2018 octavia today, ive ran an extension from the boot 12v socket to my glovebox then ran charger to glovebox. When i turn off my car the dash cam is still running. Surely the 12v sockets are switched feeds, maybe if i leave it it will power off. I was at work and didnt want to take the chance
  10. Great guide, couldn't have completed it without it. I fitted an oris detachable, its a nice towbar, although the swivel socket doesnt work well, the grommet behind it gets in the way and rotating it is a bit of a struggle, ive tightened it a bit more and it was getting so loose the nut was coming off A real pain
  11. VW 508, does not appear to be compatible with my 2018 octavia. I will go for this one https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-162052-shell-helix-hx8-ect-5w-30-vw-504507-fully-synthetic-engine-oil.aspx

  13. I will be giving my 2018 vrs octavia its first oil change this week. Is it worth getting genuine skoda oil or will total 5w30 be fine.
  14. Some towbars are advertised as no visible cut and some with a visible cut. So does that mean i could be cutting a different size slot out of the bumper or do i just cut the marked line on the inside of the bumper
  15. Great guide, very detailed. Much better that the graphics PF Jones supply. There is alot more to the electrics than i first though. With my volvo it was just plug and play basically. I cant see any reason not to fit the towbar, feed wiring into boot then refit bumper and i can sort electrics when i return to work. Time is not really on my side this Christmas
  16. Ive ordered an oris detachable from PF Jones along with the dealer specific wiring. My car doesnt have towbar prep, ive also ordered a hex scanner to program it myself
  17. Ive ordered an oris detachable from PJ Jones along with the dealer specific wiring. My car doesnt have towbar prep, ive also ordered a hex scanner to program it myself
  18. Is there a guide on the forum here for installing an octavia towbar. Ive watched a few videos on youtube but none that are any good. Ive seen people take the rear wheels off, i cant see that being necessary, anybody confirm? My towbar being delivered nexy week so just trying to gather some info Ive fitted a detachable bar on a previous car so hopefully be similar process
  19. Ive been offered this trailer at a generous price so im keen to buy it, my existing 2 wheel trailer is completely rotted so it will be a nice upgrade. I think most large cars can tow 3500kg, i thought the octavia wouod have been higher than 1800kg. I use it for the dump runs and picking things up from the builders yard. Id say the heaviest item ive lifted is stones, on my last traioer i had to transport stones a quarter ton at a time. Whats the total weight i can tow with causing damage to the clutch
  20. I think my 2018 vrs octavia hatch can tow 1800kg. Does this mean this 2 ton trailer is completely unsuitable?
  21. Will be getting new tyres on my octavia this week sometime. Since ive only recently bought the car i want to make sure im getting the right size as i know you can use slightly different spec etc
  22. No my code is 1D0 so no trailer wiring prep Im ready to order a detachable Oris towbar from PF Jones, i want to order the specific wiring but does that i mean i need extra wiring to go back to passenger fuse box?
  23. Waited two weeks for this response lol. Is there any other way i can check, perhaps there will be a fuse installed for it but i can track the cabling somehow
  24. Where the build sticker, ive can only see a sticker showing my Vin number when i open driver door
  25. Today a passing lorry let a load of stones and debris hit the front of my car. My bonnet, bumper, side panels, headlight glass covered in small chips. Too expensive for respray and its not extreme damage so hoping a good paint correction will sort it. I should of went after the lorry but situation didnt allow it. Anyway i think a dash cam would have been ideal for this scenario, has anyone fitted one to a skoda octavia, im hoping for something oem, discreet etc
