Thanks. It happens more when the engine is warm and has been running. I always wait for the engine to settle at tick over before trying to engage reverse. I have tried gently and slowly moving the stick to reverse but the noise continues until it finally fully engages.

Has anyone noticed that engaging reverse gear produces a graunch noise? Mine doesn’t do it every time but when it does, even if I engage reverse very carefully and ensuring the clutch pedal is completely to the floor, I get a loud graunch until the gears engage. All other gears are fine. Is this a clutch problem or maybe a gearbox oil problem?

Thanks. That’s confusing. I’ve just given my VRN to Skoda parts and they list LED lights! Mines a 2020 if that makes a difference

Did you find a solution to this? I’ve got the same problem. Both number plate lights failed at the same time. Am I right in thinking they are LED on a mk3? They look like it

Ok thx. I’m taking it in today so I’ll ask them to pull up the records to see what was done on the last service. I’m thinking about buying the service plan when the warranty expires. I’m fairly good with spanners so changing the plugs is not a concern but the service plan might be worth it just for the extra warranty

When I say fully serviced, I mean serviced by Škoda in accordance with their schedule. Hopefully they will have changed plugs as part of that?

My car drives very well and pulls like a train but at tick over it sounds like there is a tinny rattle. I took it back on warranty and a master technician came out, reached around the back of the engine and touched something which stopped the rattle. He told me that it was a common sound on them and didn't make any difference . Apparently, some turbos get a rattle from the turbo waste gate actuating arm. He told me it was fine but that if it annoyed me to bring it back and they will fit a new turbo. It does annoy me and I'm going to take it back. But before I do, has anyone else had this issue? 39k miles fully serviced

Ok thx ill have a look under the back to see if there is a socket already there to plug a swan neck into.

I’ve got a fabia mk3 estate 2020. The handbooks mentions a standard swan neck towball. is this provided as standard to these cars? Mine hasn’t got one but it looks like there is a place for one in the spare wheel. If they aren’t provided, is the socket that they plug into the chassis fitted to all cars?

I now think I have found the definitive answer to my question. My engine takes Castro edge 0w 20 vw508 . I have checked this with multiple sources including Škoda and castrol and have purchased 4ltrs on Amazon in their sale for £33 instead of the usual £63.

I’ve now asked the same question to two local Škoda dealers. They both told me they put castrol edge 0W 20 in these engines. Considering the Škoda oil filler cap has castrol embossed on it I tend to believe what they say so that’s what I’m going for

Thanks for the reply but I’m still unsure what oil to use. Mine is a 2020 car so I’m guessing I need vw50400 but which grade should I use 0w30 or 5w30? skoda are not at helpful in their manuals about this and considering this is my first Skoda it’s not a good start.
