  1. Good point however I question whether BEVs would have become more than a plaything. with “natural” evolution I suspect there would have been more hybrids and range extenders not requiring a dedicated charging infrastructure. I also suspect things like hydrogen may have become more popular.
  2. If it wasn’t for government legislation would evs actually be a thing?
  3. nah they can just "buy in" some allowances from companies such as BYD that have technically exceeded the annual target ;o) Its all part of the big con Any manufacturer selling more ZEVs than required (and therefore selling fewer non-ZEVs than they were permitted to) will have spare allowances that they can sell on the open market to manufacturers that have not sold enough ZEVs. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/manufacturer-news/2023/09/21/zev-mandate-electric-vehicle-targets-to-remain-for-carmakers
  4. WHich given current pump prices locally to me (.143 per l) and based on a fuel consumption of 40mpg is also £6.50 for 40 miles worth of petrol. Hang on I need a rewind . Do people keep saying public charging points are extortionate or am I going mad? Maybe compared to if you are fortunate enough to have home charging but it isn't feeling any more expensive than running a petrol car
  5. and hope the purchaser doesn't notice the VED cost ;o)
  6. how does that work then if they've been transferred into them on the yellow part of the V5. I thought you could only tax a vehicle if you were the registered owner (either as an individual or in a business name) and not if it had been transferred into the trade
  7. but what if they had elected to Pay monthly? ;o) (ok highly unlikely on a new car purchase but.................................
  8. so here's a scenario. Statement1: VED is no longer transferable Statement2: First Year VED is £270 inc First Licence Rate(FLR) then £190 per year subsequently What if the Original Purchaser Sells the car after 6 months? Does the New Owner Pay £230 for the next 12 months (£190 + £40 being 50% FLR)? If the car isn't sold for a further 6 months and the above was true then would the next 12 months be classed as Year 2 or would they pay the same as the above?
  9. oddly enough there was a thread the other day where a chap/chappess was trying to do the inverse as his car failed a safety check due to having yellow DRLs. One of the posts is a link to a VCD forum that may be off help (was provided to act as a pointer to undo the chnage to yellow)
  10. an additional problem (mainly impacting potentially older cars that don't have dealer service history ) is that apparently mainy dealer now wont pass on servicing info in the form of receipts etc if they include previous owners name & address details (GDPR, same reason the V5 doesn't show it any more).
  11. tomorrow night I am looking forward to an "Oceanic Symphony" takeaway ensemble, meticulously crafted to tantalize the palate and elevate the senses. Behold, a masterpiece of culinary finesse: An ethereal fillet of wild-caught cod, encased in a delicate armor of golden-brown tempura, whispers promises of the sea with every crispy bite. Accompanying this aquatic opus are hand-cut batons of the finest Yukon Gold potatoes, lovingly kissed by the flames of our artisanal fryer until they achieve a celestial balance of crunch and tenderness. But let us not forget the verdant interlude, a verdant oasis amidst the oceanic expanse — the velvety embrace of our mushy peas. Each verdant orb, delicately pureed and seasoned with a whisper of mint, offers a verdant symphony of flavors that harmonize with the ocean's bounty. As you embark upon this gustatory voyage, allow your senses to dance to the melodious strains of the sea, for our takeaway fish, chips, and mushy peas is not merely a meal — it is an ode to the majesty of maritime indulgence.
  12. chocolate starfish? oooh errr matron!!!
  13. Neve suggested the RAC price was the best, merely pointing out it is one option which includes fitting at home with coding as required. There are many other places offering similar services which some people may be happy to pay for. (and if you're proactively buying a battery from say the RAC then they are hardly forcing a new one on you are they?) NB the exact same battery from Tanya tha the RAC is selling is £1454 inc delivery https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/bosch/s5a11/
  14. I think I'm correct in saying that the Orkney ferries are electrically powered (hydrogen fuelled???)
  15. If you're an RAC member they will come to you and fit on the driveway including coding (NB they will also do non members but price goes up by £45) Other On the Drive fitting services may be available https://www.racshop.co.uk/bosch-agm-battery-115-80ah-800-cca-l315-x-w175-x-h190-01-b13.html https://www.rac.co.uk/batteryfittingservice
  16. 15 minutes is still 4-5 times longer than it takes to fill my Skoda Superb..............
  17. there's no problem if they don't meet their targets as the Government can fine them which of course wont have any knock on impacts.................
  18. because you can't top them up in 2-3 minutes (which if everyone was in EVs with the current infrastructure would likely mean long waits to do a 30 minute recharge) and as people keep pointing out unless you can charge cheaply at home or a destination charger then "public" charging points make effectively make the journey more expensive than burning petrol or diesel
  19. mind you either my google skills are lacking today or there's something fishy going on. The original video was uploaded to Instagram just over a day ago. The lead Rolls Royce was first registered on 26th Jan 2023 (the other 2 were tail end of 2022) which means it must have happened after that date. Using Google maps I've worked out that this took place in the shadow of Big Ben on Bridge St SW1 so possibly the convoy was headed away from Parliament Square. The only incident I can find involving a Police motorcyclist on Escort Duty last year (May) was when sadly an OAP was killed by an escort rider for the Duchess of Edinburgh but that was 2.5 miles away in SW5 (junction of Cromwell Road and Warwick Road) https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5009295,-0.1243823,3a,75y,253.87h,95.05t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWWpCH36YPgnojAkDhUpSgg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu
