Adaptive Cruise Control
IMHO the distance the system leaves set at 3 is just about spot on , you just need to find one of those sections of motorway where they conveniently put Chevrons on the floor in order to allow people to check the calibration ;o) Other than that I also (and my GF hates this) use it in slower moving traffic in 30MPH zones, so much less stressful in shuffling along slowly traffic

I'm glad to see identification of satire is still alive & kicking ;o)

Adaptive Cruise Control
@Millster , just out of idle curiosity what distance setting do you normally run at ? Personally I normally run at 3 (ie in the middle) I've also learned to notice when the Detected symbol pops up in the centre of the dash (sorry cant find a pic of that but its the pic of a car with a couple of curved lines showing a vehicle in front has been detected) which I use as an alert to consider changing lane , flicking the indicator on allows the vehicle to start accelerating iof the speed has dropped below the set threshold)

Adaptive Cruise Control
I'm sure that if you have an indicator on the undertaking prevention is disabled, might need to check that next time i'm out. I know having the RH indicator(in the UK) on whilst closing up on a vehicle seems to inhibit the ACC from kicking in.

trolley buses were the solution , ahead of their time

the truth about electric cars
That cant be difficult surely? What's the difference in Tacho requirements between a petrol, a diesel & an EV? All the same surely as its related to time & distance not to motive power

shock horror Youtuber breaking UK law whilst driving on public roads in the UK ? Whatever next? Cameras obstructing half the windscreen? Exceeding the posted speed limit? Driving whilst distracted (pieces to camera)? Wonder what other common examples there are ?

the truth about electric cars
In the UK on land to which the public can be realistically expected to have access You do not need to wear a seat belt if you’re: a driver who is reversing, or supervising a learner driver who is reversing in a vehicle being used for police, fire and rescue services a passenger in a trade vehicle and you’re investigating a fault driving a goods vehicle on deliveries that is travelling no more than 50 metres between stops a licensed taxi driver who is looking for customers either by being hailed in the street or by waiting at a taxi rank (known as ‘plying for hire’) a licensed taxi driver or a driver of a private hire vehicle who is carrying passengers Private hire vehicles include minicabs, chauffeur services or limousines Or if you have a medical exemption or if the vehicle is not fitted with seat belts (ie vintage/veteran) (Disclaimer : italics are something I believe to be a general principle to cover places such as car parks however further research on specific law /legal requirements apply) https://www.gov.uk/seat-belts-law/when-you-dont-need-to-wear-a-seat-belt

the truth about electric cars
Probably for the simple reason of identifying quickly and easily (ie without needing to check on an electronic manifest) if a Vehicle is an EV in case of any issues. As to why only on the one journey, maybe a new policy was introduced whilst you are away. Sometimes the simplest answers are the best Incidentally whilst I was on the Ferry back from Arran last weekend I noticed a box marked something like "EV fire blanket"

the truth about electric cars
They use bog Standard Ford Transit Connects with ICE. No EV s harmed here

the truth about electric cars
Just as a point of reference, as things I have no intention of buying a new car in the next 20 or 30 years of my life so technically most of this bull is irrelevant to me unless in that time they try forcing all ICE vehicles on the preloved market off the road by one devious measure or another. Any opinion is entirely hypothetical

Superb IV EV vs ICE mileage in diag tool?
all those split seconds add up ;o)

the truth about electric cars
except the EU is targeting emissions reduction which would allow PHEVS remain in play post 2035 whereas the UK is targeting Zero Emissions which will mean PHEVs are also pushed out

Superb IV EV vs ICE mileage in diag tool?
also (and feel free to correct me if I',m wrong) its not just the 2 buckets is it ? As Well as the pure ICE & pure EV buckets there is also the amount of combined Hybrid useage to take into consideration

the truth about electric cars
No Idea although there are 26 trains and 7 coaches a day from London to Penzance which may help to extrapolate demand for the journey ;o)

the truth about electric cars
And of course combine that with the fact that over 60% (I think the figure is) of UK households that do not have off road dedicated parking then that’s even more have nots

the truth about electric cars
Nice. That said it’s a shame inductive loop charging isn’t more advanced. Park and charge. Actually take that one step further and convert the motorways/major A roads into giant Scaletrix and charge whilst driving. Now that would make BEVs attractive.

the truth about electric cars
They do if you are a real “have” and your chauffeur fills up for you. Dies your EV plug itself in as well

the truth about electric cars
Yup this is what I like about ICE. Brimmed the tank Fri, drove from Wigan to Ardrossan Saturday. Currently pooling around on Arran and (unless my GF complains) will more than likely get back home next Sat on the same tank(she hates it whenever a fuel tank goes below half). That said I would seriously consider a PHEV when I come to replacement. EV for the short local journeys, petrol for the longer runs. Best of both worlds.

the truth about electric cars
Another example of “the haves” being “I’m alright jack” at the moment I suspect the Bev market is biased towards those of us in the >=40% who live somewhere we can charge at home and never need to go more than 100-150 miles from home. If the government gets its way and everyone else has bevs then we may start seeing supply issues. Maybe not as bad as China but maybe.
