Update “Solution”: I sold the car to some other dealership since I didn’t want to pay the insurance for fixing the problem. Bought 2 VW Golfs, both are MANUAL 😀 1997 16v GTI 20th anniversary edition & 2013 1.4 Tsi (cambelt) First Edition GT package w/ sunroof and massage seats. I call it a solution 🤣

Well you are right 100% but let’s just say that they don’t know about my problem yet. The information I got was via friend that have the same insurance as me and he said “I saw a leak on my gearbox, car works fine but I am worried about it” So I will just call my insurance and report the problem when I am ready to leave the car at the workshop or if the problem occurs before. technically it was a luck factor that I found out about the leak shortly after it occurred. I was going through the flex oil service and noticed that the connector was wet. So I could drive for a year without noticing, only if it brakes down. It is difficult for them to know when it appeared and if I knew about it before:D

And such things insurance doesn’t cover or why people pay the full price?

Well I understand since I am just paying 700$ to my insurance and they will take care of the rest, doesn’t matter how much it cost at the end. I don’t know how it works in UK but here in Sweden we have something called “Machine fault” which means everything and anything that has to do with electronics or mechanical components of the car. You pay for a deductible depending on how many miles your vehicle has. In my case it is 117000km and the price of deductible is around 700$ (from 100000km up to 150000km) So technically it doesn’t matter how many things goes wrong and how much does it cost to fix it you pay your deductible depending on the mileage of your vehicle.

I just don’t have a second car in order to fix the issue asap. i have to drive to work this car for a month and save money in order to leave it for a repair I can only hope that it will not give up on me until that…

Oh okay then! I will check again for the leak this week I wonder if it gets worse or not. btw the contractor should be completely dry and oil free, or it is a normal thing to find tiny amount of oil inside the connector? I visited few shops and one of them told me that it may be just pushed the overfill thru some valve above the connector and the oil find its way into connector. I didn’t know there was a valve above the connector for extra oil to escape?

Claim from the insurance company?

I have been informed by the dealer yesterday gahah VW accept that it is a fabrication failure but they don’t want to replace it under the “goodwill” hahaha what a joke. That’s why I recommend Toyota,Lexus,Honda,Kia, etc. well, it doesn’t affect the car or the gearbox in any negative way yet. I spoke to insurance and they offered me to leave the car for repair (replacement and coding of new unit) for 700$ which is really fair price for a mechatronic replacement. I cleaned the leak and now I will check on it from time to time how much does it leak. If it doesn’t leak much I will continue driving and saving money for the repair since the insurance company said that they will cover it for 700$ as long the car is under 150000km (110000 currently) so even if the whole gearbox fails it will cost me 700. Can’t be bothered to fix it right now if that is the case.

Update: It looked pretty good after I removed all the dirt that was sitting there. But still I brushed with a dremel and cleaned afterwards with a rubbing alcohol and layered bitumen based rust protection with a brush

I work as a mechanic on new cars that comes in Sweden. Mostly VAG, recently we had the new Amarok which is more ford than anything else…. you have to see the new “manuals” or “instruction book” for the vehicles 2024-2025. Let me tell you, there is NONE. On most cars we have to download the digital instruction manual to the cars infotainment. This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life. You will get some short booklet that shows how you should check if the car is safe for driving and working as it should. There is nothing about what oil, how much, where is filter located, nothing about the cams, etc.. In order to get more information you have to use stupid animated manual from the infotainment system. there are some exceptions to this stupidity. Cars such as Skoda, Caddy, Golf, Transporter, Crafter, some Audis have the old fashioned user manual (thick book)

I just love how we went from a “fight” back to really good and thoughtful conversation haha. I am sorry how I replied before, but it just annoyed med how you said it. I understand that you didn’t have any ill intentions or anything else. You have great knowledge and you are very smart in explaining and sharing your thoughts and experiences. I will update this thread as soon I have more updates hahaha! Right now it is cold and snowy in Sweden. Therefore I don’t even think about changing my wheels yet. Somewhere in April I might have some updates on how much room there is in arches and will I even get a new set of wheels. cheers

See this was very helpful and good comment and I honestly appreciate that. I didnt know almost anything about what you wrote in your last comment. It was truly well written and explained. I have read some of your comments and they were helpful. It did not offend me, but from my point of view it looked like you came and wrote a comment how you are right and know what’s the best and how someone else who just asks questions is wrong and silly Ye right, “macho man” is just a satire on society. I don’t consider 18” big since Skoda sells xtreme 19”. The wheel arches are big and I currently have 17” and it feels like I could go 1 inch up just to get that sporty look on the outside. The thing was I don’t really like the vRS ones, but love the Superb 18” they are classy and sporty at the same time. I will check how much clearance I have when I put the summer 17” then decide if I will get a set of 18” and refurbish them. Thanks again for giving me advice edit: I really like the karoq ones that @Carlston suggested above. They remind me of the Passats 18” which I also like. But I can’t find any used ones for sale at the moment 😞

Wow thanks! You really know this stuff. i am looking for curb rash wheels that I can fix and use on my Octavia. It is really easy to find passat/ superb wheels that are 18 8J and they cost around 90€ piece. that is the main reason why I want to put superb turbine wheels on my mk3 facelift Octavia. But thanks for help I know now that they will fit together with 225/40r18 before

Finally it came up today! I bought this car in November 2023 and I don’t know if it had any issues with the DPF before or this was the first time. my driving routine: I work 10-15 minutes away and it is mostly city traffic ( 2 stop lights and speed limits (40km/h - 70km/h) I am aware that this is not good for the DPF, but still we plan the longer trips almost every weekend. I was hoping that will do it, but still the warning appeared. Luckily, it went of really fast. I was about to joint the highway (manual mode around 3000rpm) and the light went off before I even got to the highway. Anyway, I drove for 30 min 120km/h at 3000rpm, just to be safe. The car is parked in hot garage so it never gets cold in winter and had struggle to start. From time to time I used the “remote heat” (the button on extra key to warm up the engine before start). I hoped that will help the car to reach operating temperature and don’t soot as much because my daily workn commute. My mechanic told me that it would be easier for me to code out the DPF, because my short commute. He also said there are many opinions I can do: -code out DPF and EGR -remove DPF insides and code EGR (so it is open, or something like that, I don’t understand anything) -replace the DPF with some “sporty” version, because the oem ones are not that good if in use to make short journeys. all of above includes the remap at the end. He told me whatever I chose to do it would be smart to remap the engine after the modification so it know what to do and do it right. Also all options are “safe” the car will pass the inspection without any problems. Feel free to suggest or add any other options.

Thanks for the information. I really don’t like how the original vrs wheels look. I drive a 2.0 TDI, I don’t know the trim, but very comfortable and well equipped. So I don’t want to create a nock off vRS. I like how those wheels look : edit: I am for as high profile as possible with 18” wheels. I really want to keep as much comfort as possible with those superb wheels, if that is even possible. I know that superb comes with 235/45r18 on those wheels but I am not sure if that would fit in my wheel arches without problems?

Hello! I am looking for summer set of wheels for my mk3 Octavia. I that vrs models comes with 18” 7.5j but can I fit the superb wheels or passat? They are 8J and according to the wheel-size.com it won’t be any problem. The will will be 9mm closer to the suspension and stick out 3mm so almost no difference. I believe both passat & superb wheels have 44 offset. If it is possible, what tyres should I get for them? I thought 225/40R18 or 235/35r18?
