Could high oil level cause my engine runaway?
Hi me again 👋 This follows on from my earlier post about a possible blown turbo oil seal on my 1.6tdi. When I went to collect the car from the garage this evening where it was going to be MOTed, but they ended up looking for the cause of the runaway, they said it’s definitely the turbo failed as there was lots of oil in the intake, BUT the oil level was also high (they said 1cm too high). By chance I got chatting to a guy outside who turns out to be a VAG specialist and told him about my runaway issue. He said it’s likely to be turbo seals BUT it could be the oil over full being sucked up through a breather into the intake. So after we towed the car back to my mates unit I checked levels properly. Turns out it’s way higher than I or the garage noticed it seems (see pic, it’s up to my finger). Could this be the cause and my turbo may be ok after all?? Current symptoms: There was never any smoke or loss of power prior to the engine runaway, It drove perfectly for 20 mins before the runaway occurred. The runaway occurred while I gave it a boot full while going up a hill, After the engine was shut down, I tried a start and it ran fine but did try and runaway again as there is obviously still oil in the system. The garage had the car idling during the day with no issues or any smoke. They did not rev it! When I collected the car at the end of the day I did have to start it and drive it to turn it around before being towed across town. There was no issues or smoke at all. My next plan is to drain the oil to the correct level and clean out all the hoses going to the inlet. Probably check the intercooler too. Is there anything else I should check/clean? Thanks all, Fingers crossed 🤞

Fabia 1.6tdi Fabia Turbo replacement/rebuild options??
Morning all! 👋 Well I haven’t exactly had the best morning! After spending the last 2 weeks preping my little Fabia for its MOT today, after 99% of its journey to the test station being perfectly smooth and nice, the last 1% ended up in a cloud of smoke and an engine runaway (that thankfully stopped when I cut the ignition!!). Literally 50m from the test station it looks like the turbo oil seals have let go! 😢🤦♂️. The garage is now taking a look instead of doing my MOT. So, if this is the case, what is the cheapest and easiest way of replacing/repairing the turbo and what sort of a job is it to do? Ive seen the turbo core kits for £60-100 on eBay (just had a quick look for an idea) but are they worth it or reliable? The car is on 173k and doesn’t owe me lots but isn’t worth doing?! 🤔 I’m ok at working on cars and engines as I’m an engineer by trade (not a mechanic lol), but I’m waying up my options on how to go from here! Any advice appreciated Thanks all 👍

2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate - From no MOT purchase to smart modded Daily Driver!
That’s exactly what I need right now, something cheap to buy and run, reliable, useful and a little bit funky! (That’s where the mods come in as you will see later 😁😂). I’m not very good at owning a stock standard “normal” car! 😂. I just hope there’s nothing lurking when I start to drive it properly!! 🤞

Tbh it seems to sound ok. No horrible noises yet but I’ve only driven it up the lane and back so far! I went through the paperwork when I got home and found it had a full service history with stamps every year from 2011 to 2024, then the last owner serviced it himself last year! I was also told that most of its miles were motorway miles so that’s been a little easier on it!! I’ll update with more pics of my progress when this forum allows me to post more than one at a time lol 😂

2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate - From no MOT purchase to smart modded Daily Driver!
Hello all 👋 I’m new to Skoda but I’ve had many many cars over the years. My dad however has had many Skodas (and other VAG cars) in recent years and loves them. I am an engineer and have a huge interest and a small collection of classic Japanese cars and modified cars in general, but recently my commute has increased and I needed a cheap and (hopefully) reliable car that does good mpg. While searching Facebook Marketplace 2 1/2 weeks ago I found a 2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate with a recently lapsed MOT, 173k and full of mud/dog/horse, up for £500! I went and had a look and found a few jobs needed for the MOT but nothing obviously awful and it looked pretty tidy under the mud, so I chucked him an offer of £350 and he took it!! 😁👌 In the last few weeks I have been cleaning it up and prepping it for its MOT, and I may have been adding a few mods, because why not 😉 so hopefully in the next week or so it will be on the road. 🤞 So the plan is to keep this pretty cheap while making it my own and keeping my fuel costs down. I can’t leave anything alone so I will make excuses to have a play with it 😁 So here is my cars story from the beginning……….. Pics from the advert:
