  1. I'm on my second Octavia with the DSG box and no problems whatsoever, not with any part of the car and definitely not with the DSG. I love it and wouldn't go back to a manual, in fact I've got another Octy on order also with a DSG. I've driven many other automatics, mainly abroad as hire cars, and the DSG is simply the best hands down.

  2. Back in the 70's, diesel fuel tended to 'freeze' (went to a jelly-like substance and wouldn't flow) at low temperatures. Additives were available to counter-act this, but a common practice was to add about a gallon of petrol to a tank of diesel and it did the trick. Never heard of any engines being damage as a result. Thankfully, diesel fuel now comes with the additives already added so there's no problems.

  3. Apparently ;) Jabbasport can do it, Removal of the DPF will make the car smoke occasionally but no worse than a diesel without a DPF, MPG will be better & currently the MOT test is the same for all diesels so removal of the DPF wont cause a fail. The car will also be much nicer to drive

Obviously if you map the car with the emphasis on performance you will get more smoke but thats really down to what you want from it & with a custom map it can be tailored to your requirements

I assume that DPF's are fitted to lower the emission figures and hence the scale of road tax. If the DPF is removed how will that affect the road tax?

  4. Thankfully mytyres.co.uk have let me cancel. The 16" sets are much more expensive though.

If you ordered by mail-order, mytyres had no option but to accept your cancellation - See the Distance Selling Regulations, 2000 - this applies to all goods (except, I think computer software) ordered over the 'phone, internet or in writing. I have a synopsis of these regulations, should anyone want a copy.

  5. I've read somewhere that Councils are ignoring cul-de-sacs because they don't go anywhere (obviously!!), but they do go to peoples homes. Anyway, I have lived in a cul-de-sac (with a steep hill) for over 20 years and the gritters have never even tried to get up here in that time, but recently, a family moved in further up and they have a disabled child in a wheelchair and the Council couldn't get here quick enough!!

  6. Seems like you're having a conversation with yourself, lol

Anyway, the blanking plates (as you call them) on the front bumper are in fact the washers - they shoot out before delivering the fluids to the lamps. Get someone else to operate them as you stand at the front and watch - it's quite comical to watch in a way, but they only work if the lights are on. You can't miss them when sitting in the driver's seat.

Having established that you've got three sets of washers - one each for the front and rear screens and the lamps, they must have three separate pumps to operate independently. One of the usual causes for failure is the fluid freezing, expanding and popping off the joints. Make sure you always use a suitable anti-freeze, but NOT the type that goes in the radiator because that will strip off your paintwork.

  7. I had this problem on my motor some time ago. Parked the car and whilst indoors was doing a bit of D.I.Y with a lot of bending and stretching, etc. (I think you may have realised where I'm going with this). Suddenly heard the car alarm going off and when I investigated found that the windows wound down and some leaves had blown inside obviously setting off the alarm.

Tried to figure out the cause and then realised the keys were in my trouser pocket and the button must have pressed whilst bending. I used the Maxi-Dot to switch off this feature as I don't use it anyway and no problem since.

  8. Ordered a new L&K Octavia on 4th October and delivery expected in January, but very flexible. Dealer said that the VAT free offer still applies providing the ORDER goes in before 31 December and nothing to do with build and delivery dates. This has been backed up by a Skoda advert in the press a week or so ago of which I've kept a copy (just in case of course).

  9. As mikeholroyd says there are plenty of threads, so do a search. It seems the problem is caused because the fluid has become diluted and does not have enough anti-freeze solution in it, hence it freezes, expands and the joints pull apart. This usually happens where the pipe joins the nozzle and the hatch cover will need to come off to fix it.

Also, there are threads that explain how to get the hatch cover off and VrsStu (search for his profile) may have something on his website.

    Hope this helps

  10. Ordered a new L&K on 4th October and got the VAT-free deal and delivery given as January. The offer has been extended into 2011 and it will be VAT-free even though registration will be in the new year. Order accepted by Skoda and confirmed by email today and all prices have been fixed as per the order.

  11. Check that ALL the doors, bonnet and boot are closed properly and not on the first latch as this will stop the beep. When you've closed (or think you've closed) all the doors, etc. look through drivers window at the dash indicator to see if any are not fully closed. This can also cause the alarm to go off.

  12. I quite like the 'chirp' as I lock the doors. This makes sure that all the doors plus bonnet and boot are securely locked and not just on the first latch - this can go unnoticed particularly with the boot and it doesn't 'chirp' if any of them are only half-latched.

If any are on half-latch this can cause the alarm to go off at any time.
