My dads Fabia airbag light needs turning out. So I thought about buying a fault code reader. But which one? One of those off e-bay, Halfords, Argos, etc or do I go the whole way and get a laptop and download VAG software? I've no idea? What do you folkks recommend? If I got one it would do for all our family Skuds, I've got a Fabia vRS, so would be a usefful tool to have.

Enlighten me, whats a ross tech cable?

The airbag warning light wants turning out on my dads Fabia. So I thought of buying a fault code reader. Hope it would do for my Fabia vRS as well. Are these off e-bay any good or has anybody got any others to recommend? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-405-MaxiScan-CAR-DIAGNOSTIC-CAN-VW-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA_W0QQitemZ120666312762QQcategoryZ30921QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6111839050217166040

My old mans Fabia 1400 Classic ,w reg, keeps having this intemitant clocking at the front end. It sounds like a broken spring but its not. It had one fitted the other week for its MOT and I thought it would cure it, but if anything its got worse. I presume this could be with have the car being jacked up for its test.. It had a new anti roll bar fitted three years ago, at 38k, so I presume it isn't that? Could it be the console bushes? It's nothing the car could fail its test on anyway. Its driving the old guy nuts, and he keeps whinging to me about it, so driving me nuts as well

Pacific Green Paint

I know I've got the same problem! The last tin I bought was old stock from an ex Skoda dealer. -
"seized" gear handle

Thanks for that info. My Felly has done the same. In fact I had a look at the linkage today and if I can access the underneath of the car it doesn't appear too bad a job to do. -
If it's well repaired and the right price it could be a good buy. Providing you keep it a long while when the value is irrelevent. Because if you try to p/x it your going to have problems. I doubt a franchise dealer will touch it and if you do get a bid it will very low. It's swings and roundabouts so be very careful!

That must be me. I bought a March 2007 Diamond Silver vRS only last week.
-
Thanks mate. It's bog standard as far as I know.
-
Thanks mate. The other Fabias my old mans, he's 85 but thinking of spending his money on a new Octavia Vrs tdi Estate I do drive a 1998 Felicia GLi for work. Had it for 7 years.

Well spotted. It is sheltered housing, but I care for my parents, help! One of the reasons I decided to get a vRS. I might start a Briskoda OAP section, including vRS's zimmerframes and mobility buggies

Like wja96 says from model year 2006 coloured coded handles became standard. They do look good as well.
-
I'll keep her standard as I'm 50 next year, although what age has got to do with it god knows?
-
Thanks mate. Think I'll keep it more or less standard. I've only done 100 miles in it with the furthest being 20 miles away. Took my mate for a blast in it tonight and accidentely got up to 110mph. Totally by accident on a private road! I'm pleased with it as well. You can run around at 50 or 60 and if you want just plant the throttle and it surges forward. Looked on You Tube of the time Jeremy Clarkson took it around their test track and for once I do agree with him. He said the power seems to come in a huge lump and I agree. Although to be fair I've bought for its combination of economy and touring abilities, not outright top speed. Oh, and the fact I'm a Skoda fanatic also helped.

It is as well, although I say it. One owner car, full history, 29k. Registered March 2007. And did a stonking good deal on it with Dennis Horton Skoda at Lincoln.
-
Just myself a 2007 Fabia vRS. Couldn't resist any more. Got a good deal on my Fabia Silverline so had a mid life crisis and took the plunge. http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc103/nbavin/our%20fabias/ourfabias009.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc103/nbavin/our%20fabias/ourfabias011-1.jpg So far so good. I'm really pleased withit

Sorry to correct you but the road that goes from Lincoln to Skegness is the A158, and yes it is a great drive when there's not too much traffic. The A16 goes south from Grimsby, bypasses Louth and through Boston onto Spalding. In fact I think continues across to Stamford.

My Fabia has developed fairly severe brake judder. Not so much riding around at slow speeds but say 50mph and over. The steering wheel vibrates quite severely and the brakes seemed to loose a bit of feel. But the car does pull up perfectly and straight. Looking at the front discs they appear to have a bit of wear to them and the discs are pitted. So I can only presume the discs are warped so I need new front discs and pads? Am I right?

Just read it. I think the cars from the chap who's got the Skoda Museum in Denmark? Didn't realise the Felicia and original Octavia had such problems with their handling. But then again with pre war underpinnings and looking at the suspension set up I shouldn't be all that surprised. Doesn't put me off wanting one though.

Went out in my Felicia this afternoon, turned on the radio, smelt burning and the radio/cassette unit was burnt out. Have a spare one at home, put it in the car, turned it on and it burnt out as well! Visible smoke this time as well. Electrics aren't my strongest point so what can it be? A relay, alternator, voltage regulator? Over the past week a fuse has blown for the fan, a headlight bulb has blown and the airbag light has come on. It all points to electrical overcharging too me. Plus I've noticed prior to the radio burning out it had a background tone like it needed suppressing. And when I rev the car through the gears you can hear a faint whining noise above 3500rpm. Anyone any ideas?

Classic car motorshow at the NEC - anyone going?
nickfel replied to Dr Zoidberg's topic in General Automotive Chat
Yea, I'm hopefully going, probably Friday. Make it an annual pilgrimage. What cars are on the SOC stand. I keep asking on SOC Forum but get no reply! -
Driving my Fabia Silverline back home this afternoon and the management warning light came on! The engines now running on 3, 3 1/2 cylinders. Haven't had time for a proper look but could it be plugs (nice and simple), electrical or do Fabia OHV 1397cc engines have that famous old Felicia trait, the inlet manifold gasket?:weeping: PS Thank god I've still got my dependable Felicia with rusting tailgate and flakey arches.
