  2. Wifes Car a 1.4 8V comfort (2003) came with 2 Keys, both traditional looking keys with no separate fob. One has two buttons with lock/unlock the car. The other key is just a normal key with no remote locking facility. Oddly both keys look old so either one was replaced early on or that was how it was originally supplied.
  3. My Wife now has a 1.4 8v comfort (disk front/drum back), which runs very well for all it 64HP, but when I drive it I find the brakes feel a bit weak and I am not sure I would like to do an emergency stop in it. Does anyone recommend any simple upgrades (better pads maybe).
  4. took a 4x4 TDI demonstrator out yesterday (only for a few minutes as the dealer was closing) and it had the DPF light on. Seemed to drive okay though, but it only had 3500 miles on the clock.
  5. Hi all, Just found my heater matrix seems to be leaking, or at least I am getting water in the heating system (steaming up and smelling very sweet). Slight drop of coolant in the expansion tank. So looks like I need to get it replaced, so is this something that is DIYable or is it going to be a nighmare of a job? Looks to me I will have to get the dash out, so any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Paul Oh and it's a MK1 Octy 1998 Tdi (Estate)

  7. Hi all, Just noticed my Boot lights are still on even with the boot closed. I think this is the switch in the lock (as it went before and I "repaired" it). but guess it's gone again. So anyone know if this can be replaced, or do I need a whole need lock mechanism? if so any ideas on prices? Paul

  10. Having got my Octy estate a couple of months back I quickly got fed up with tape only use, so have obtained a VRS Symphony system (tape head with CD changer). I know not the worlds best but enough for what I need. Only problem it refuses to detect the power from the ignition and also show any signs of illumination. I can use it and it works fine for the 1 hour override time then switches it'self off. I have tested all the wiring in the car and can confirm the right signals are on the right pins (I can even see the illumination one changing voltage with the dimmer control). Guessed it must be a faulty head unit, so have just bought a replacement (from the for sale and wanted on here)....... and it does exactly the same :( So anybody got any ideas? My only thoughts are that it needs to see the more modern k-line controlled dash. Paul
  11. Update: Have now fitted the roof rails This should have been an easy job as the octy is fitted with pre-drilled holes in the roof..or so it said in the instructrions.... Well mine didn't so I guess it was pre-roof rails. Made it a bit harder as had to work out where to drill and take it carefully. Took a bit of care to paint and seal the holes with silicone sealant so shouldn't have and issues with water (fingers crossed). Total cost for those interested was about
  12. Hi again all, Tfboy, yes a bit slower than the Ti (but then it is about 1/2 the Horsepower) but not too bad have just done a 350 mile round trip and don't feel to tired or stiff. And yes the 620 has gone with ICE and even the rather tasty alloys (well they wouldn't fit this one) Still gives me room to try a different approach this time The roof rails (trim kit etc) and a new door mirror control (missed that one when I checked it over) are on order and should be here by next saturday, so that gives me something for the bank holiday weekend. As for power having had time and mileage to give it a good test out, I am fairly sure there is a fueling problem as I can get a nice boost of power (up to 4000) but not consistently I had a look at the MAF sensor and it looked a bit dirty so from reading other posts this seems like a good place to start... And Ebay did have a new one with the right part codes for
  13. Might be a silly question, but does anyone know where I can get hold of a set of wiring diagrams for A 1998 Skoda Octavia (Estate)? Thanks
  14. I guessed the later models would be. But wondered as this is one of the first of the estates and is "only" the imobiliser that it might be simpler. Certainly it is only the rf tag in the key, as it doesn't even have remote lock/unlock (yet ).
  15. Hi, Does anyone know if this is similar on a 1998 Octavia TDi. I have just got it, but it doesn't have an alarm just the imobiliser, so would like to replace with a more "integrated" system. Paul
  16. Had an A2 as a hire car for a week last year, and found it terrible round london. Not only were the pillars quite thick, but being so far forward they became more of an issue as seemed to always be in the way of where I wanted to look when pulling out. I thought it was just me at the time. Maybe not by the sound of it.
  17. Do you have the part codes? as if anything like the Rover dealers unless you can give them a part code they will swear blind the parts don't exist.
  18. Did the spoiler on the TF and that was when it was new was a bit scary. But then at least I know it was done right.

  21. Cheers Guys, No Tfboy the MG is staying too much fun with the roof off. As for tuning, 150 sounds good to me, but first I want to find out the cause of the hesitation at 3K almost feels as if the fueling is being restricted. Thanks
  22. Hi all, Just bought an Octy SlX TDi estate. Quite a change from my last car a Rover 620ti. Just about everything is different, some better some not so. Main reason for change..... I needed a bigger boot. But now have a few questions, so any thoughts and suggestions: 1) It doesn't have the roof bars, so how easy (and expensive) are they to get and fit? 2) The TDi seems to have quite a good bit of poke from 2-3K but then it almost seems to run into a wall and only slowly builds back up. So what's likely to need looking at/fixing? 3) More power well coming from a 200+BHP saloon I do want a bit more, so what's the best way of getting? Jabba or tuning box? 4) What else should I be looking to do to it? Lots of questions, so hope some answers. thanks Mg-Paul p.s. yes do own an MG as well
