  1. I've had something similar on my 110 Elegance and it got to the point that the noise was happening even on tickover. Took half the bottom part of the dash and centre console apart to find it but found nothing, so I concluded that it must be on the underside in the engine bay. Anyhow I did find out where the noise was coming from. If you look at the bulkhead in the engine bay and look downwards you will see the large heatsheild in the centre of the bulkhead. Sandwiched between the heatshield and the actual bulkhead are two gear linkage cables. Each cable has a 'star' type rubber grommit/spacer on it. All you need to do it 'adjust' the heatsheild simply by pressing up on it so the gear linkage cable don't move or rattle about and that solved the problem! It might also be worth checking the heatsheild fasteners on the underside where the exhaust is near the gear lever as these can work loose and cause a buzzing noise too. Easy fix which cost nothing Dan
  2. Thanks guys for the comments! I do like the torque and oomph that the PD engine gives - we also own a Bora 100PD which pulls like a train which makes the 110 TDI feel very sluggish in comparison, despite having a recon turbo and all the other usual suspects that cause these engines to knock off the power.... I am in Mansfield tomorrow so may call into Shark for a chat, however I am wondering whether to consider buying a 130PD Octavia instead as you also get the 6 speed box as well! Dan
  3. I am thinking of having a re-map on my 110 TDI Elegance. Has anyone had it done and if so, what was the benefits? Did it make a big difference to performance and economy? I am only 15 miles away from Mansfield where Shark Performance is based and I have heard a lot of good things about them, so was considering taking it to them. Any comments would be gratefully received! Thanks Dan
  4. Thanks for the info re changing the thermostat - doesn't sound too difficult! A new genuine one has been purchased (pricey!), so hopefully 'o' rings etc should be a perfect fit.... Re the throttle body cleaning, I was very surprised that this didn't require any cleaning, therefore it was left alone (possibly would have had to have it realigned if it was removed anyway).
  5. My brothers partner has a 1.6 AKL Bora and she had rough running/idleling problems as you describe. The hose from the PCV to the main air intake hose was split and as a temporary fix it was taped up. It improved the running/idling issue to a certain extent until a new air intake hose was sourced. Once this was fitted, the running of the car was transformed! We bought an aftermarket part off eBay for around £20, however the plastic used is different to the original part and as a result is not as flexible. This does result in the large parts of the hose (i.e the end that connects to the air filter box) has a tendancy to move a bit from engine vibration and can cause air to leak in if the seal is broken. A genuine one from TPS is around £40, but in hindsight we wished we had bought the genuine part now even though it is double the price. Here is a link below to an aftermarket one on eBay (there are many listed) - this listing does provide the original part number. Not sure if there are any TPS's in Ireland, but they are very helpful in the UK, so they may post one out to you. http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 One thing that the Bora does need is a new theromostat as the temp gauge barely moves much further than 1/4 on the gauge. Was this an easy job to change? Dan
  6. Greg at Small Engine in Nottingham is highly recommended. Octavia 1's are his particular specialty! Greg does a really fantastic job and he will replace waterpump, all tensioners and all bolts (including bottom pulley bolts) and coolant change. All genuine VAG parts used and all work guaranteed. Check out his website www.small-engine.co.uk for more info. Dan
  7. Try Greg at Small Engine, Nottingham www.small-engine.co.uk. He can supply you with a recon at a good price, or supply and fit for about £675. Check out his website. He is highly recommended and he has customers from all over the country, not just local! Dan
  8. Was the 4x4 an Elegance? If so do you still have the original alloy wheels? I am after a couple for my TDI Elegance Thanks Dan
  9. A minor irritation that someone maybe able to help with My CD multichanger's magazine is full of CD's (6 in total), currently some CD's are not being recognised and comes up with 'NO CD' on the Symphony display. This is on CD slot 2 and 3, but this fault has occured in other slots. This is only a recent fault, and apart from the 'MAGAZINE' issue a while back, the multichanger has been working fine. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if so, how was it fixed? Many thanks Dan
  10. Thanks for that - I didn't realise that there is a silicone verson available. Will check this out on eBay. What are the two sizes I need and what lengths of each do I need to replace the whole vacuum system? Thanks Dan
  11. Hi All I am wanting to replace all the vacuum lines on my 2002 Elegance 110TDi and I am wanting to find out where I can source this from? Also, it would be handy to know how much in length I need. TPS don't seem to stock this, only reinforced rubber fuel line (which is expensive). Any help/advice would be gratefully received! Dan
  12. Just to keep you updated I fitted new genuine green CTS on Sunday afternoon and I must say I have noticed a real difference in the performance of the car! Pulls much much better, engine feels smoother and generally more responsive. It even seems to start better and run smoother from a cold start (not that it was a 'bad' starter anyway). So, early indications suggest that the fitting of a CTS has been worthwhile. Bit early to comment yet re fuel consumption as fuel computer is making similar readings to before, however this is approx 8mpg out at present. Hopefully once the ECU has settled into the 'new' readings from the CTS I should hopefully benefit from better fuel consumption as well as performance (fingers crossed!) Dan
  13. I checked all these when I changed the turbo, and all looked okay although the long one from the N75 valve to the turbo actuator felt a bit 'limp'. For the record, I filled up today and the consumption worked out (manually) as only 47.5.mpg (although the fuel computer reckons it has averaged 55.7mpg!) :'( Off to TPS I think for a new CTS to see if a new green one will improve things..... Dan
  14. Something definately wrong with mine then!
  15. That's interesting as my 110 doesn't particularly feel noticebly faster or torquey than my previous 90! My turbo is definately boosting (you can really hear it 'whistle' since the new turbo I fitted), but I don't feel the benefit! It actually seems that the more I push it to the limit, the throttle response deteriorates.... Dan
  16. Thanks Will get a check on VCDS re the readings of the engine temp and will buy a new sensor. Just wondering whether my performance issues are caused by overfuelling, hence the feeling the the car is 'choked up'. Dan
  17. I own a 2002 110 Elegance hatch with 103k on the clock. I have owned this Octavia for nearly a year and I have always thought that the performance was lacking, especially compared to my wifes 100PD Bora, which leaves my Octy for dead... Anyway, in a bid to try and cure the lackluster performance, over the past twelve months I have replaced the MAF and most recently last October, I fitted a recon turbo myself including cleaning out of the intake manifold and EGR, blanking the EGR on re-assembly. I thought the fitting of a new turbo would cure my problems, however disappointingly (and to my cost) there was little improvement. In addition, although fuel economy is reasonable for a TDI, it is not outstanding and I struggle to get 50mpg overall per tank (working consumption out manually as the fuel computer is wildly inaccurate - between 5 and 8 mpg out!). Again no improvement was noted since the changing of the turbo. Compared to my previous 90bhp Ambiente, this was much better on fuel, regularly averaging 55+mpg. I have had my Elegance scanned numerous times on VAG-COM and there are no codes stored to suggest any other issues. The next thing I am thinking is that the CTS (on the ECU circuit) is misreading the engine temp causing fuelling issues. The dash gauge appears to work fine. The sensor is the original black one. To drive the car it feels as though it is holding back, especially mid-range to top end and is noticable whilst overtaking when you need that mid range torque the most. I can only describe the feeling as when older carburetter petrol engines used to get 'choked up'. Would a faulty CTS cause these running issues? I know that a new CTS won't break the bank but rather than shell out just under £30 for a genuine new one, I don't want to waste my money if my car does not need it and pursue other options. Your views would be much appreciated Dan
  18. Hi Is it the 110 tdi with 5 speed box or 130pd with 6 speed? Dan
  19. I notice that you live in Chesterfield. I know a really good guy in Nottingham (Greg Bradshaw) who knows these cars inside out and VE TDI Octavia's are his speciality! He is a member on here (greg123), however he does have a website which is http://www.small-engine.co.uk/. Greg will easily sort out your problem. He won't charge you the earth and he is a really nice chap as well! Highly recommended. Dan
  20. I know where this garage is in Attleborough - just around the corner from my mates house. I think it used to be a Skoda dealer but lost their franchise and became a 'specialist independent'. Anyway it does look very clean and genuine - 64k is low mileage. 90bhp is fine - won't be a ball of fire but when running right they produce a good turn of speed, however it will feel quite tame against your 120bhp DCi Megane (assuming that was running as it should have been). You can have the ECU re-mapped for between £200-£300 and will instantly produce around 125bhp alone just from this. The Ambiente I had did 168k before I traded it in. The only reason being was that it needed a dual mass flywheel (and new clutch) but the engine itself was still running great. It is a tad pricey perhaps but they will be asking top retail price due to it being low mileage and a diesel, plus being a special edition. Give it a blast up the A11 to Norwich (or at least Wymondham!) and if you like, hammer out a good deal! Let us know how you get on Dan
  21. Yes it will be even better, as the MAF will inform the ECU the correct amount of fuel/air mixture required for optimum engine efficiency for performance and fuel economy. You are okay to run short term until you get a new one. Is there a TPS in Lincoln? If not the guys at Nottingham are really pleasant and helpful and will serve you even if not trade. Apparently some other branches can refuse to serve you if not! Dan
  22. They are £68 from TPS! Get a GENUINE one!!!!
  23. Did you manage to get this sorted? Did you contact Greg from the details I sent? Dan
