  1. Thanks numskull and nick74 I have sent a couple of messages and tried to call the guy to find out more info (I.e. engine code) no response as yet.... I've seen their website yes quite underwhelming so I think I've made the decision to leave well alone....perhaps he didn't like me asking specific questions....
  2. Gizmo68 - yours look great and low mileage too and very well kept. Something to consider but at the moment would be at bit over my budget for one... :( My interest in a Superb has stemmed from being loaned one (52 plate 130PD Elegance) whilst my Octavia 1 110TDi Estate was having a new head gasket, I liked it so much I started to look for one but at present I have now got a 100% mechanically sound car now the Octavia is sorted....
  3. I would hope he does know what he is talking about - his business is an independent VAG specialist!! Maybe he was trying to baffle me with science - he said the car is totally mechanically sound as had new Dmf and clutch and been owned and meticulously maintained by them. Apart from the engine doubts, the car looks great - nice colour and great spec (full leather, sat nav, 6 speed etc) - shame that VAG had to spoil it with poor quality components which they will take no responsibility for when it goes bang.....
  4. That's what I thought! So either had an engine fitted from a Golf Mk5 or he's telling untruths.... Car being sold by Sanis Motors VAG independent specialists in Chelmsford.
  5. OK what spec is a Edition 100? Comparable to Elegance spec??? Mileage? Colour? Price Thanks Dan
  6. OK so 99% will say to me DONT DO IT, but hear me out on this one....... I've enquired about a 56 plate 2.0TDI 140 Superb Elegance 150k from new, DPF removed and remapped. Anyhow, knowing about the dreaded oil pump drives and balance shafts I enquired about this (the car has been owned by a VAG specialist in Essex). The reply I got was that this is the early 2.0PD TDI and has the 'transverse' engine hence no issues with oil pump drive. Is this correct as these lumps were only fitted to Golf 5's and Octavia 2's etc? My thoughts were that 1) it has had an engine swap from a Golf Mk5 or similar or 2) he is telling me porkies....... If 1) above is true would that be of any detriment to the car (other than obviously no oil pump drive will fail) Many thanks Dan
  7. Hope someone can help with this... My Elegance Estate has excessive wind noise from the front of the sunroof area which is most noticeable at higher motorway speeds. My previous Elegance hatch was not noisy and I've also driven an identical estate to mine which was also quiet. Has anyone else experienced similiar issues and if so how was it cured? Wondering if Ive got a badly fitting seal or the sunroof itself need adjusting. Any help/advice greatly appreciated! Dan
  8. Not sure how far you can safely drive your car but if you can get it down the M1 40 miles to Nottingham, a guy called Greg Bradshaw can sort you out he has sorted more Octavia 1/Golf 4 TDis out than you can shake a stick at! He runs a garage called Nottingham Independent very trustworthy I also help him out at times as he is very busy! If interested I can give you his number?
  9. Get someone to check the timing on VCDS as maybe too retarded in which case needs adjusting. My most recent 110 ASV I acquired in January and was difficult to start from cold plus white smoke when it did start. 3 glow plugs were down plus timing too retarted, so new set of glow plugs (one of which was a b**** to get out), and timing adjusted (slightly advanced) and starts perfectly with no smoke at all. Glowplug lights goes out now in under 2 seconds.....
  10. Just done diag on Climatronic comes back 444 00 so all OK. Issue hasn't seemed to have presented itself for a couple of days hopefully all OK now - just got to get rid of the fusty smell will try the anti-mould spray!! Cheers Dan
  11. Thanks pikpilot, will run the Climatronic diag and try using econ if that makes a difference. Will keep you posted! Dan
  12. Hi Folks wondering if anyone can advise on this one? My recently acquired 110 TDi Elegance Estate has developed a strange issue with the Climatronic/heating. I always have my Climatronic set to auto (as I did with my previous Elegance) at 22c. Obviously in this cold weather the heating is on and on the move the heater warms up no problem. However the issue becomes apparent when you come to a standstill or you are in slow moving traffic. The heat from the heater starts to reduce and ends up being only tepid or cool. When you start moving again the heat comes back and the Climatronic then compensates by giving you a blast of warm air until 22c is reached again. I've only had the issue a couple of times, however it seems to be becoming more frequent. I also have a 'fusty' smell as well when the heat is on, similar to the smell you get when you have a dirty pollen filter which needs changing. I changed the pollen filter yesterday which was dirty and smelly, but the smell is still present. Temperature gauge is fine and waterpump was changed with the cambelt at 108k (covered 128k now) however not changed in my ownership. Any ideas??? Thanks Dan
  13. Do you still have rear bumper plastic trim? If so is it good condition? Thanks Dan
  14. Hi All I have just acquired another Octavia 110 TDi ASV, and the EGR has been disabled along with N239 change over valve which operates the anti-shudder valve. I have reconnected the vacuum pipes to the N239 but not sure if they are the correct way round. Can anyone post a pic of theirs so that I can compare? Tried to look at a diagram on the net but couldnt make it out. Thanks in anticipation Dan
  15. What are the front end panels like? I'm after wings bonnet and front bumper and might be interested in the 'Ride' alloys too! Dan
  16. I've got to swap the loom from my old door as the breakers just cut the cable at the 'A' post. As the door is just a shell i have also got to take out the glass regulator and window motor from my old door. Fortunately the door latch is on situ and looks new.
  17. Oh and do I need to disconnect the wiring in the 'a' pillar and if so what trim to I remove to access the multiplug? Dan
  18. Thanks guys Do you have issues with lining up or usually straight forward? Dan
  19. Hi All I have been lucky enough to find a replacement offside front door for my Octavia today in the right colour (Agave Green), so I need to embark on swapping it over onto my car. Looks fairly straight forward (I think) but would welcome any suggestions/tips. One thing the Haynes manual says it that I need new bolts - is this true?? Thanks in anticipation Dan
  20. Mine is running a blacksmoke remap on standard injectors (ASV 110) and I get about 470-480 before light comes on. I also often get high mpg figures on the trip readout (70+mpg) with an overall computer readout for the tank of around 61mpg so over reads by approximately 10 mpg. Remap has improved performance pulls much better than standard 110 but fuel consumption remains the same as standard. Would be interested to find out more about those larger Bosch injectors.... Dan
  21. Try blacksmoke they will have a map for your TDI for £45!
  22. Out of interest, does your ECU number end in 'CL'? Forgot to say, Blacksmoke's service was excellent! Dan
  23. Had mine done last week - seemed more powerful at first but now seems not much better than standard. Can't really tell much difference until after 3000rpm - you have to really give it some to feel any benefit/improvement. Done approx 550 miles since being done; fuel economy about the same. I will have mine checked out with VAG com next week just to see if there is any issues elsewhere, however I do think that there is some poor quality diesel about at the moment. Mine seems to like ASDA diesel best, last lot of BP performance seems to have dropped off a bit. I've put a bottle of injector cleaner in it (Carlube) as I have not done so for a while as injectors might be a bit gummed up. I always think that it can take approx 1000 miles when things have been changed before the engine finally 'settles' into it's new running order, so maybe early days. Probably could do with a good motorway run to settle things down too. Will keep you posted! Dan
