  1. Santa arrived early in my house with these two beauties my second D3 and the superb 24-70mm 2.8 Must charge the battery and affix the lens for crimbo day
  2. The nikon 300mm 2.8 weights in at almost 3kg and the D3 is about 1.5kgs, so 4.5kgs.
  3. That's how it goes. However the reach with a 50mm would also mean heavy cropping unless the players were in your face.
  4. Cost me about €4.2k a year ago. New one arriving within a week and taking advantage of the euro strength it's cost me just under €3k. Lots more image shere on my Flickr
  5. LOL Nobody gets to play with my tools - can you imagine if I asked a mechanic could I use his wrench? LOL Seriously, the D300 is in a different league to the D200 and is well worth the extra. If you can push the boat go for the D700. More importantly is the speed of the glass and I'd invest in the lens more so than the body at this stage of your experience. JB
  6. My kit is a Nikon D3 used with a 300mm f2.8, 80-200mm f2.8, 14-24mm f2.8 and 24-70mm f2.8. Then there's a 1.7x teleconvertor along with a 50mm f1.8. Meanwhile a D200 and D50 compete as secondary bodies.
  7. Football photography is not difficult, you just need to anticpate. Crop your images tighter to get rid of superfluos crap. You really need fast glass and a camera that can shoot a in bursts of five frames per second minimum. Learn to use your camera in manual node. I shoot at between 200 and 3200 ISO at 1/500th sec with aperture 2.8. Here are a few examples from te past week
  8. The Huddle The crucifiction The strike The celebration
  9. It can be embarassing but I too had this 'problem' earlier this year too having moved from petrol to an oil burning Octy II. You just need to adjust your driving style and give the right pedal a little more wellie to maintain the revs.
  10. Yep, everythng else works, he doesn't fancy paying Skoda a small fortune to diagnose, fault find and then the labour costs for something that is probably very simple.
  11. ^ As stated above neither hazards or indicators are working
  12. Thanks for the replies The relay is contained within the hazard switch, and that, along with the stalk have been replaced by new parts. Neither solution has been successful. (Neither hazards or indicators are operating) Also, fuses have been checked and replaced too, just in case). The dealer has again confirmed that VAGCOM will only indicate a fault and will not be specific as to the cause.
  13. Eldest now drives our Mk1 2003 Octy and the indicators have failed. Replaced the relay €50 but still nothing. Went back to dealer and they suggested a new an indicator stalk. Changed the old stalk and still nothing.. Contacted local dealer again and they said they could run the VAG Com on it but it would only show as a fault. Anyone any ideas or suggestions?
  14. This is our third new Octy. First was a 2003 MkI 1.4 ambiente, eldest son now has it and still only 35k miles on clock Second was a 2006 MkII 1.4 ambiente and was traded in with 22k kms recorded. Will see how the next two years go, and while very satisfied with the brand/model not sure if I'll go again. However, if I do it will be back down to Ballybrittas BTW, did nobody notice the aircraft flying in the pic?
  15. Just reached 1000km on my new Octy II 1.9tdi Elegance. (Have it since 23 Feb) Have to say fuel economy compared to my old 1.4's is much improved despite only short journeys and one round trip of 350km. No niggles or quibbles yet, not even a rattle. There is a nice hum from the oilburner once on the move. Dealer, Ballybrittas Motors (Pat Keogh) were a dream to deal with, especially on pricing and have followed up wit a few after sales calls to see if everything was ok and to m satisfaction. Here she is in all her glory at a spot Gaff should be very familiar with!
  16. You call them lenses? Have f2.8 300mm and 80-300mm with D3, D200, D50 bodies plus a nifty 50mm f1.8 along with kit lenses. All Nikon btw

    Hi

Just ordered my third Octy for delivery on 20 Feb, second Octy II. Moving up from 1.4 ambientes to 1.9tdi elegance Dublin based and hacked off at my local dealer who wanted almost €2.5k more to do the deal than a dealer 80km away. Went back with figures to local dealer and the salesperson just turned their back saying "We get customers in here all the time saying so and so was so many euro cheaper but they aren't." Returned to the other dealer who honoured his pricing and we did the deal there and then. Moral, shop around and don't be loyal as it should be a two way street
