  1. I noted I changed mine in March 2018 and have just been (auto) advised to change it again... I have again used 2032 size. Works fine
  2. Hi I have not concentrated on any type of fuel (though usually cheaper supermarket stuff mostly across the EU). Over 4+ years (74,000 km) I have used 3,800 litres getting either 5.38 l/100 km or 52.47 mpg (English miles and Imperial gallons). All on brim to brim, each test ending after about 2,000 km or before/after a long trip. I note the figures in an Excel table. The long cruise controlled trips on the near empty continental roads reduced the consumption to ~ 58 to 62 mpg (running at, or less than 130 kph).
  3. Hi all - and thanks My French neighbor who likes 'motors' and I played... we extracted the filter, decoupled the filter box, the housing for the MAF, took that off and found nothing untoward. I did not have an electric cleaner spray- so MAF remains uncleaned. The hard plastic grid on engine side of MAF box was a slightly sooty, but not the onwards pipe into the engine. The air-side side of MAF box was totally clean. Rassembed, refitting all little pipes, using the new paper filter - turn-over OK but stationary still did not exceed 2,500 with foot flat to floor. Uncoupled the Tunit device and reverted to standard VAG - still the 2,500 revs. Recoupled the Tunit. Took it for a short trip and returned though my village at up to 4,500 revs - all no problem at all. So it works on the road!!! But stationary again, it maxed out at 2,500. BIG question. What revs do the MOT testers need to check the exhaust- so many secs at xyz-revs? And higher than 2,500 I guess. I will ask VAG garage later in nearest big town. Meanwhile thanks for all your answers.
  4. Hi - the filter seemed dry - no excess oil. But it could be. Will MAF auto clean I wonder? John
  5. I will check further - but I don't think there are any odd air leaks. And I will check the MAF for leaks... No error codes indicated on the screen (don't have a proper tester for codes). I have not done a road test - perhaps it has just run into 'safe mode, limp home' out of pique! And usually I don't use high revs - but an auto halt at 2,500 is odd. Thanks so far.
  6. I cleaned my K&N filter and now I have no revs above 2,500. I don't think it is the filter as I have replaced it with a new spare paper one - same low revs. Any ideas?
  7. The battery in the fob is a CR 2025 - but the thicker CR 2032 fits and as it is thicker, it might have a longer life. They can be bought in bulk off the web. John
  8. Take CARE. I left my key in the removed bar and broke the key - just flat with the key holder. It is remarkably hard to remove as there is little to grip and pull. Now I have to find how to get a spare key. Skoda.cz told me to go to my local car vendor. Any other ideas? John
  9. Hi Over the past year+ I have used the Amunsden with my old Garmin Nuvi 255 working in parallel as I can't understand the pronunciation of the Skoda. But in a town I prefer the Skoda as it recalculates more quickly. Generally I have the Garmin set on 'no tolls/quickest' and that often agrees with the same type of Skoda route - but their forecast times differ. The Skoda is more cautious, ie suggests a longer journey time even if eventually having taken the same route. Nailing a destination is sometimes difficult with both if they have no nearest point already in their system (I sometimes have to insert lat/long data from Google Maps). Both screens ought to be larger but are clear enough to me. Both systems are also up-to-date (though it are a pain to download the large maps - overnight is best). So - apart from the daft Skoda pronunciation (Spanish street names amuse me...) I find little to differentiate either system. John PS - Over 3000km to Portugal & return on speed restricted A-class roads I averaged 4.22 l/100km or 67 (UK) mpg from the car.

FINAL CORRECTION of data - the continental metric (where I live) confused my eyes when I did the conversions. As has my unseeing default to US measures in Google! Note the corrected values in green text with UK mileage conversion. How about this... ~ New car in May 2015 now with 30,000 kms on clock. On a recent trip with tank top-to-top over 3,063 kms along French/Spanish/Portuguese non-toll roads (often in Spain on the original yet quite new dual carriageways with little traffic and often with cruise control active). Running on new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tyres. Trip data 3063 km using 133.55 litres fuel: 4.36 l/100 km or 64.79 (UK) mpg. Often averaging ~ 70 km/hr (43.5 UK mph) on visual trip output on roads limited to 110kmh max. Ordinary fuel from supermarkets. Not too bad. Yet, from new (May 2015 - 6km on clock and almost zero fuel) over all journeys long and short - Total 32,601 km (20,257 UK miles) average = 54.27 (UK) mpg With an early France to UK round trip of 3,652 kms at 37.99 (UK) mpg (often prudently fast [130 kmh] on French motorways). The measures are from tank top-to-top over several fills (14 sets so far) not the in-built Skoda computer readings. As for Tunit - I have used their units for several years and 'think' they provide some advantage over a bare engine system. But, do they pay for themselves - who knows? Thanks Gerrycan for your attention to my detail.
