  1. Well, so far Simpsons want £290 for 2nd service inc pollen filter and brake fuild change, DM Keith want £279 and Benfield want £248. I also rang an Harrogate Audi - "I'm sorry sir we only service Audi's" was the reply - harrumph! :dull:

Edit: Leeds VW won't service a Skoda either!!

WTF - Some VAG group badge snobbery going on??

  2. I know we have at least one member on here from NZ. My friend has just moved over there and wants to buy some detailing gear for his new car. He went out looking for AG stuff but couldn't find any. Does anyone know what decent stuff can be bought in the shops over there? He's in Aukland

  3. I voted no because I want to vote for who I want to win. I don't want someone to win because I voted for them as my second or third choice. I don't want them to win which is why I voted them as 2nd or 3rd. AV just sounded nonsense! I want to vote for who I want to win and if they don't then so be it. IMHO.

  4. No problem, I paid £130 maybe more for the first service and they do jack all but change the oil and fart in a bag. Scandalous. I'd do it myself except I want a full Skoda service history.

Oh and no - not just motoring but it's the one thing I really enjoy - the household bills constantly rising annoy me but nothing more than motoring. The fact that petrol has gone up so sharply in the past two years is just plain ridiculous, factor in everything else and I'm starting to have to reconsider owning this car. I'm going to be gutted to see it go but in the next 6 months I really don't see an alternative.

I need to get this second service and it's first MOT done then she'll be ready for selling. I need to get the best price.

  5. Hi guys, well for one reason and another I haven't driven my Octavia for over a month now!

It doesn't look like I'll be taking it out for a few more weeks yet and I was wondering if the car goes into a hibernation mode? I know some Porsches have this. Concerned I walked past it yesterday and unlocked and locked it again just to remind it that I'm still here and I still care!

On another note it's covered in a thick layer of dust and I'm a 30 minute drive back to the 'rents house where the hosepipe is!!!

  6. The DVLA give a months grace on untaxed cars, but don't tell anyone! Well - they may send a pentalty notice but they won't clamp or remove one in the first month expired. The computer is updated anyway so when checked with the DVLA then your car will come back as taxed. The PNC VEL records are normally way out of date so wouldn't worry about the 5-0 pulling you. I have to physically ring the DVLA to check a car and although it is an offence not to display a tax disc it is the DVLA not the police or council who prosecute and as long as you are taxed they aren't bothered - or at least that is my experience.

A lot of motorbike riders do not display an tax disc due to the risk of it being stolen. Still an offence but not likely to be prosecuted.

On another note it is an offence not to produce your driving documents to the police at the road side but who carries them?? Hence the HORT/1 was invented - also known as a producer.

NB - The above is not legal advice, only my thoughts and experiences

  7. I think it's worth saying that Common Assualt carries a maximum penalty of 6 months imprisonment. It can happen but is incredibly rare.

As for your case, it sounds to me like an affray but if it's a tit for tat incident then I don't see there being much of a case to answer - sounds more like a breach odf the peace to me - if we're talking Scottish Law - either way you could try argue that the complainant in your case has also been charged with assualting you - I'd say it would reduce any punishment you'd be handed. However, if there were people around at the time of the alleged offence then there that aggrevates the offence, a little, as your (collective) actions could have scared on lookers. If your previous conviction was some time ago then you could be in for the same type of punishment, although I'm not sure how the Scottish courts sentence. If it were England and Wales I'd say you'd be likely bound over or given a conditional discharge, failing that a fine.

I'm basing all this on my assumption that this wasn't an assualt causing any injuries other than minor bruising.

NB, I'm not a lawyer and the above is not legal advise of any kind, just my thoughts.

  8. Well, I've bought the missus a Ford Ka so she can learn to drive - hell knows she wasn't going to get behind the wheel of the Octy!

Anyway, being an old Ford Ka it's pretty basic and I don't care about it that much, that said I'm trying to restore it back to it's former glory in someways and I'm using it to learn how to do some work myself, like servicing. I'd like to change the oil but where should I dispose of the old oil and what kind of container should I put it in?

    Thanks for you help
