Assuming you have the correct code, disconnecting the battery or HU will give you the opportunity to enter the code again. There are instructions in the HU's manual if you're unsure how to enter the code. HTH

Service and strange play when changing gear
ap0gee1978 replied to drsqueggy's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I have the Fabia Haynes, and while it's not brilliant for repairs, it's got servicing pretty well covered. I'm not sure how your intercooler failing will have meant you got oil in your coolant, but Haynes explains how to flush they system as well. There are plenty of places that you can the stuff you need, without going to a dealer - TPS, GSF, ECP, Jorily... This may help you with your gearbox problems: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/166594-adjusting-gear-linkage/page__view__findpost__p__2031063 -
Cheap Supermarket Diesel
ap0gee1978 replied to studmuffin's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Less dense means less MPG, though - it really is a case of burning twice as bright for half as long with VPD, which is why I don't bother! -
ISTR the 6-speed box has two final drives, making 5th and 6th a bit like 3rd and 4th with overdrive. Doesn't explain why 2nd is noisy too, though...

I can pretty much guarantee that you HAVEN'T warped the discs! http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_warped_brakedisk.shtml Having them skimmed may not be any cheaper than getting new ones, but following the advice in the article may help it ever happening again... HTH

CEL (Check Engine Lamp) is on - Fabia vRS
ap0gee1978 replied to djdazzy's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Mine did that when the coolant temp sensor was degraded but not completely faulty. I only found out by doing a fault code when the light WASN'T on, which showed a 'Pending' code. But without confirmation, it really is anybody's guess... -
Cheap Supermarket Diesel

BLT is the engine code (last of the 1.9 PD130s). Come to think of it, ISTR the Octy II 1.9s only had 105bhp output? Even so, it could still be applicable. Search for '06 stutter' on here, and even with the severely hobbled search function we have on here ATM, you will find plenty to go on... -

The hesitation mentioned in a couple of posts could be the '06 stutter' if they were on BLT-engined cars (assuming BLTs weren't just fitted to Fabia vRSes???) -
http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/93030-rear-washer-jet-issues-help/page__view__findpost__p__1150674 I'll make a proper sticky one day!

They'd be too soft, basically, so not only would it sit too low, you'd bottom out all the time and be very wobbly in corners! HTH

I'm pretty sure I used nail varnish remover when I was tidying up the touch-up paint on my boot. It was going to be re-lacquered anyway, so I wasn't too worried about damaging the top coat of the undamaged paint, but I don't remember it doing anything to it TBH. HTH

Doubtless down to almost all DAB radios sold looking like... Hardly hi-fi!
-
Seeing how Tiff is supposedly so attached to his orange helmets (from powerboat racing days IIRC), it's jolly nice of him to give them up if he is indeed the new Stig.
-
We have a couple of DAB radios, and I must say reception is poor for us at home. I think this is due to the wall and ceiling insulation which seems to include a thin layer of metal. I could be wrong, but they work fine in the garden (as long as they're not being moved about!) So IME, I could never recommend a DAB radio that didn't have an exterior aerial. OTOH, I can imagine that using an internet radio on anything like a regular basis would eat up your ISP download allowance pretty quickly!

True, it has. And time and again, people always miss that the Civic is a C-segment car, and the Fabia is a B-segment car! Considering when the Mk1 Fabia came out (OK, it was the Ibiza Sport TDI that got there first, really - nearly 10 years ago, now) it's quite remarkable that with only a remap, its performance is still comparable to virtually anything else in the segment that's available today...

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but how DO you get any significant power increase with a normally-aspirated petrol engine? No turbo to increase boost on, and stoichiometric combustion means you can't alter fuelling levels. So what's left? Ignition timing? Taking the engine to bits? Genuine question, BTW...

Cheap Supermarket Diesel
ap0gee1978 replied to studmuffin's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Supermarket fuel isn't dregs; just fuel from whichever refinery is closest, minus the additive packs that the big names put in. FWIW, I try to use Shell, and put Millers in when I fill up at the supermarket. It certainly helps with the smoke compared to before it was remapped (and was run on plain supermarket DERV), which is probably an indication of the good that the injector cleaning compounds are doing. Plus having a PD engine, I don't like the thought of lower lubricity. OTOH, I certainly never experienced sensor issues and have only noticed marked differences in MPG when using VPower diesel (due to it being semi-synthetic and therefore less dense...) -
You have a lot more torque, which will work in your favour as has already been said. The number of gearchanges required before you have to start slowing down again will make a difference, too. If you both went from 1st to 6th on your run, but neither of you reached top speed, I can imagine it being close. FWIW, 6.6s 0-60 is quoted for the CTR, and I have achieved 7.1s myself in my Fabia (and I'm no Stig!) PS: Threads like these used to be banned, you know!

What do you want to put in it?!?! Mine's fine with travel mugs and 500ml cans (Relentless, not Stella! )

We have Polo cupholders in both our Fabias. I also have a single-DIN stereo, so have my cupholders in the upper slot, which means they're further away from the gearstick, and hold the cups a bit more upright.

Leather retrim, Autoleathers anyone used them?
ap0gee1978 replied to Flobadob's topic in Styling and Car Care
I know from experience that you'll struggle with the rear seat backs, as they seem to be stitched on! Everything else is pretty easy once you've got hold of the spline drive bit to get the front seats out. Did mine in stages (straight swap for nearly-new originals, though), but it's a weekend job time-wise. On that basis 200 quid isn't too bad! HTH -
Who's for a Pay Rise............
ap0gee1978 replied to Auric Goldfinger's topic in The Roadside Hotel
The only way I've got a payrise these last few years has been to change jobs or get promoted. Think I've just about climbed that tree as far as I can though, so probably going to have to bide my time with a 'real-terms' pay cut over the next few years until / unless I decide to set myself up as a 'government contractor'. -
Does sound like the exciter / trigger cable then. You can tell by seeing if the battery light comes on when you turn the ignition key, apparently. Plenty on here about it!
