  1. Sorry to hear your sad news, Im getting worried about our golden retriever he is now 11 and sleeps a lot now and has arthritis, Pets are ok but they break your heart when they go.
  2. And I have heard that the cost of fuel is to rise again after the bank holiday - a litre of diesel here is now £1.41 per litre. There will be a time when manufacturers get a breakthrough in alternative fuelled cars but until they have been tried and tested and at a price people can afford then we have to rely on petrol and diesel. But then again what ever comes along next weather it be electric cars etc as soon as they take off the goverment will tax it to high heaven - Cant win. :(
  3. I would do research first as we bought a Bosch washing machine 3 years ago and the bearings have recently failed so I decided to phone for a bearing kit and was told it is a sealed for life drum and I need to buy the whole Drum with its outer plastic casing at a cost of £224 (we only paid £259 for the whole machine.) Hot point are now part of Indesit and hoover are now owned by Candy and these also do these stupid sealed for life drums and as we are now looking at a washing machine that is somewhat at least serviceable if anything like bearings failed are looking at something in the higher price range. We have looked at the LG machines which seem to have a 10 year warranty on their direct drive motors (no belts to worry about) Also Miele although don't look as fancy as other models they are very reliable and some even come with a 10 year warranty, But be prepared to pay more for the parts if ever they go wrong. We are a family of 4 here so are looking at something next that will last and is serviceable if something went wrong. Its sad that manufacturers make things that when they fail its better to throw it away and buy a new one. There are quite a lot of machines around cheap but the big question is how long will they last especially if its used daily.
  4. I would be careful and only take it on drs advice as my dad once used this and it made his head turn bright red (I mean his head as in on the shoulders type) but he started to get chest pains with it and had to go to the drs who then told him off for doing it. It does something to increase blood flow to enable you to get stiff but in turn can put extra pressure on the heart, My dad said never again and like other posts have pointed out he also got a bad headache from it.
  5. Whatever happens will be up to Philips, Even if they can fast track the part to get it going I would be happy its just the length of time as they apparently keep their parts in the Netherlands.
  6. My Philips TV first went faulty on the 19th Jan but was intermittent so this was when I first contacted Philips who then arranged for an under warranty repair although the TV is 20 months old as I kicked off about the sale of goods act, anyway the part came on Thursday (yesterday 10th feb) and just as I thought I could get my TV back the engineer phoned to say it has not solved the problem and that the TV is still failing to power up, so they said they will have to order a power supply board but this is on back order and could take 2 weeks to come I felt fed up so phoned Philips again who then got in touch with the engineer... Philips then called me back to say that they have spoke to the engineer and told them NOT to order any other parts and that they will do an escalation as they have spend a few hindered pounds on the part and labour up to now. The engineer is to send a report to Philips who will then decide what to do - I have been told it will be one of the following... 1: A partial refund minus depreciation from the time I have had it (I was told its rare for this to happen) 2: A like for like replacement TV with the same if not better specification (More Common) 3: A discount on the price of a better model It turns out that it was the main motherboard signal board that they thought was the fault but then when they fitted the new one the power supply must of fried the new part so hence why it needs a power supply board. I was told that it is difficult to test power supplies for dangerous voltages when the TV will now power up whatsoever ever. Anyone here gone through this process as I don't know how long all this will take, and hope it does not take longer than if they had ordered this other part. What is escalation (may sound stupid) but I have never gone through this with TV`s before. All i want is my decent TV back as I am fed up now with the 15" portable one that doesent have a remote and the brightness and colour stuck nearly on full
  7. If the TV gets repaired will it be covered for 12 months again in the unlikey event to went faulty?
  8. LOL It should of read 12 year old not 112, Over sensitive keyboard.
  9. We have a 112 year old golden retriever and no pet insurance company will insure him as they say he is to old but they would take the money up until he was 11. Just hope nothing serious happens to him and he needs treatment as he has not needed any vet treatment apart from being castrated (or whatever they call it for dogs) and the yearly vaccination jabs.
  10. I don't understand why the government don't do more to stop jobs going overseas especially call centres. Big companies know they will pay more by setting up services here so just go abroad where its cheaper for them and this needs to be sorted as even more services will be going overseas.
  11. I Know what you mean mate - Its a joke how these known drug users can do and say whatever they want and still walk the streets!. My dad got his computer back and all his other belongings and when he went to collect it got dodgy looks from the officer behind the desk, they even made him wait 30 mins for it even though everything was at the front desk "ready to collect" they had all the paper work from C.I.D to say it could be returned but double checked it all over again. My dad got the computer back and it wouldn't boot up they had stuck evidence stickers all over it even on the inside with a 4 digit number wrote all over it they even scribbled all over the hard drives with numbers and they had police evidence stickers on them and they are the type that cant be removed (maybe its so you cant sell it on) I'm sure someone said it wouldn't work, don't know what they done but the drive had to be re-initialized. Least its all over now. Gentlegiant - I'm sure my dad knows exactly how you feel. There are loads of scum people around that will say anything knowing that it will cause the person being accused a major headache but yet nothing gets done about them.
  12. You never know...when the engineer came to take it he mentioned if it costs them too much they may write it off and either give me a cheque less depreciation of the length of time I have had it or maybe replace the set with an equivalent model. The engineers said that first they will just swap and change boards around and take it from there. The TV has a diagnostic socket on the back but because of it not powering up now they cant get info from that. It is a good TV and hope it can be fixed as I remember when I bought it going through different models and looking up specifications, The TV I have is what they call the Philips Ambilight 7 series now they are on the 9 series.
  13. TV was picked up this afternoon - they say I will get it back in a week...wonder what they will think when they have seen those solder joints. Just hope they can fix it as it was a great TV when working.
  14. ***RESULT*** I phoned Philips and they have agreed to pick up the TV and repair it as under warranty conditions so I am just awaiting contact from the engineer to pick up the TV. What a relief as this was stressing me out, Will keep you posted.
  15. I Know its awful I don't know if you get these joints re soldered or try and persue this but doubt I will get nowhere - Does anyone know if currys will have a record that this has been repaired by them previous to me buying it.
  16. I cant get over it to be honest how such a poor job be done then re sold, surley they would of thought it would cause problems further down the line. It is very poor and those joints screamed at me they looked so out of place - as to where it was done all I can say is I bought it new from curry's in April 2009. If they did repair it and resold it would they have a record of such a repair? The reason is I want to pursue this as I think its a bit naughty - Ok doing a "good" repair fine but such a poor job is just asking for the unit to fail again. Just worried that this board may have damaged other things now if its been arking high current voltages to other parts of the TV. Thanks again everyone - Will keep you posted.
  17. Where the dodgy solder is on the other side of the board it connects to 2 square transformers with copper coils on them. Surely that would not have been allowed to leave the factory like that. It looks that bad I don't think re-soldering would do any good, I have also noticed some other joints with slight cracks around the edges. I am taking the board into the TV shop tomorrow to see what they say.
  18. Hi Mannyo, Would this cause a board to do this though its only above a standard gas fire but I tell you something its not going on again when I get all this sorted out.
  19. Thanks John, I am 150% certain that nobody has soldered anything on this TV, I doubt curry's will tell me anything how could something be sold like this from new. I thought that they may have been caused by heat and be dry joints. I dont know anything about soldering but knew when I first saw them that it looked out of place.
  20. I deffinetly know he never used a soldering gun as I watched him with his spray something to do with de-greasing, Why would this be a remanufactured board when it was bought new, I still have the receipt from April 2009 which is worrying. Could some fault cause a boartd to do this, I just cant get over it. And I know someone mentioned re-soldering but now want to try and persue this with Philips surley they should know if it was a "re-packaged" item but then I got it new from curry`s. Nothings simple with me :S
  21. Your worrying me now it was bought from new at Curry's just 20 months ago, I hope it never left the factory like this, are they dry joints they certainly dont look right, its like it has been over heating. Any advice as if you guys feel this is not dry joints and a manufacturing defect then I will try my best to pursue this under the sale of goods act. Thanks again.
  22. No they did not touch the boards with a soldering gun as they didn't take the board out just sprayed it with some stuff. I thought the same its like a 5 year old has been let loose with a soldering iron, but this is the first time this board has been removed from the tv and we have had it since new.
  23. My TV went again today so decided to look at the main power board (after discharging the capacitors) and found these dodgy looking joints does anyone think this will be the cause of my tv not powering up any longer, here are the pics... Picture 1: Picture 2: Picture 3: Picture 4 TV started switching on and off and then I got someone out to it who sprayed something on the boards and now after a week of running fine it no longer powers up - Just looking for a heads up to see if anyone here thinks they look dodgy joints. Thanks
  24. Thanks guys, I think we will Tax from tomorrow, bring it home using the one day insurance and then put it into the garage then declare it as sorn then send the tax back for refund then when she has the deposit for insurance re-tax the car then all should be fine. The only reason doing it this way is because her insurance for a 1 litre corsa is £1,789 per year and requires a deposit of £365 but she will save for that and insure at a later date, just the car was to good to miss out on waiting around. I cant get over how young people are getting such high premiums. Thanks again
