  1. First loosen both cable adjusters at lever right off. Have a look at rear calipers and see if levers on calipers have returned fully. If lever not fully returned, unhook cable from lever. Operate lever by hand and see if it returns. If it returns ok it's probably cable beginning to seize up, new cables required. If lever still sticks its a caliper problem. I have had some success previously spraying freeing oil on the lever pivot and moving it till it frees off. If it does not free off then your looking at caliper replacement.

Although I seem to remember retrofitting return springs from an Audi A3 although I could be wrong.

  2. Suspect arms on calipers which cable pulls on are sticking down and not returning when handbrake released. This causes the slack in the cable, which unfortunately if you adjust at the lever makes the problem worse. If the mechanism doesn't return fully the caliper cannot adjust properly.

  3. If you have a clear sky and not much light pollution with a view to the north the chance of seeing the Aurora tonight is very good. Currently the magnetic activity is high with Lancaster University Aurorawatch giving a red alert. Aurora possibly visible from all the UK.

  4. The 'Pre Delivery Inspection' is the responsibility of the Dealership Workshop & the Workshop manager

should be the one aware of mechanical defects and issues or faults and ordering.

Safety checks & anything needing removed from 'In Transit' and Trim like Wheel Nut covers put on, fuel added etc.

A salesperson doing the hand over should be aware of a hopeless Workshop, Technicians or Pre Delivery Preperation

and be checking on your behalf..

I hope you checked and set your own tyre pressures and set the TPMS, checked wheel nuts tightness, & Puncture repair or Spare Kit.

If they do some things half cocked you have to question their abilities generally and trust nothing they do.

In my experience the salesman would have been made aware of the problem by the workshop, but as parts are on back order, would have neglected to tell the buyer, to avoid problems at handover. Unfortunately there are many people like yourself who cannot wait to blame techs and the workshop.

  5. A genuine exchange Base engine or Short engine comes to the dealer without an engine number. The dealer is expected to stamp the same number onto the new engine as the old unit. When the old unit is re manufactured the engine number is removed. If a complete new engine is supplied this comes with a new engine number, and the DVLA will need to be notified of new number.

  6. I think Steve Cantrell used to work fro Gordon Lamb and is the guy we bought our Fabia off 13 years ago... when the Bickertons sales guy wouldn't even say what the monthly cost of the car woul dbe on finance until we'd signed for it (idiot!)

You are correct Steve worked at Gordon Lamb. I travelled to the Factory with him a couple of years ago when I was at Rainworth. A top bloke.

  7. This could be a great help. Thanks very much. I will wait to see the outcome of what Bristol Street Motors say and then take it from there.

I'll keep this thread updated and pm you if I head your way If that's ok?

Do you have a lot experience with timing belts etc then? I see you have a good post count in the vcds and diagnosis section.

    Thanks again.
