  1. Over the last few months, I have been getting increasingly annoyed by my brother (he's older than me)going into my bedroom and closing my curtains. This may seems like a strange post but I'm hoping you can shed some light (pardon the pun) on this. Please answer this seriously and honestly. The situation is this, in my study where my computer is, I don't like the curtains being opened because the light reflects onto the screen which is very annoying. So the curtains are always kept closed. I usually am up at around 6am doing my work in there. When my brother gets up at around 10am he waits for my room to be unoccupied and creeps into there to open the curtains. I go back in there after a tea break and annoyingly have to close them. I have told him not to do this several times. I then closed my curtains then again left the room. A few minutes later he appears to open them AGAIN!! I have told him to Stop doing this ABout 4 or 5 times in the last few months. He continues to do this everyday. Yet this morning he did it again and although it seems trivial when a person keeps repeatedly doing it i start believing its being done to irritate me. This morning was the last straw so I went downstairs and closed the curtains in the dining room. I did this to make him understand because he clearly isn't listening to me. he did not like this (as I closed his previously opened curtains) and claims I am being immature as I retaliated.. Yte I have told him not to keep opening my curtains as the light causes problems with my screen. I also have a sensitivity to light and sometimes it can cause me problems which leads to reduction of fluid in my eyes.Dry eyes.I have been on medication for this to treat it but unfortunately the doctors say it is a ailment I will be stuck with forever. What do you think of this? could he have some kind of mental disorder? or is he doing it to annoy me? He has stated I am immature for closing the curtains downstairs.

  3. hey, thanks for your advice.I'll ask them to show me the phones. I'm not that into music these days, but I do listen to mp3 podcasts and stuff like that.
  4. I'm due for an upgrade soon and appear to have a choice from different phones ranging from Iphones, HTC, Samsung, Sony-Ericsson,Blackberrys (Bold, curve..these have normal QUERTY peypads) and Nokias. A lot of these are touch screen smart phones and I have never owned such a thing before. My current phone is a non smartphone sony ericsson and i've been using normal tactile keypads on phones what seems like forever. It;s been ok but the last few SE's i've had, the keypads have dropped off and I've had to replace them. Quality of Sony Ericsson has gone down in the last 5 years imo. I have no interest in using facebook or twitter but these seem to be major selling points. I have read somewhere that Cisco have joined with Google apps which I presume means that Cisco will have various deployments available on Android enabled phones. This could be a useful thing for me. If anyone uses any Cisco apps on their phones then would like to know which ones? What i am mostly after is reliability, excellent call/voice quality, good camera, maps and easy to text on. Oh and erm....are these touch screens reliable? they look kinda fragile. Sorry if I come across technically illterate with phones. I just haven't got a clue. thanks
  5. cheers, The lit agents have only read the first 3 chapters so don't know about the R's yet planning to invade. The story just seemed very unlikely and I thought maybe she should change it something more feasible. Perhaps something smaller scale would be better, like the bad guys are smuggling weopeons into England in order to help fuel their criminal activities. i.e. reselling them and even providing armaments for their own crimes, theft, murder etc.
  6. My other half has written a book(novel) and it is aimed at children aged 13-18 I suppose. She's asked me to read it which I have done and although it wouldn't normally appeal to me, the story is actually good and it reminds me of the old Secret 7 and Famous 5 books I used to read when I was young, many many years ago, when the world was quite different. Anway it isn't exactly like those types of books as deals with things in much more serious manner and is a lot more suspensful. She has already send off 3 chapters of this book to the agent, but I have concerns about the ending and I was hoping you lot maybe able to help as I don't know too much about the historical/political stuff. In fact I probably know jack ****. Basically a young woman stumbles on a plot which involves (in the present day) a British family smuggling guns to a big country in E.Europe (it beings with R and its symbol is a large bear. I wont spell out the full country as I dont want it turning up in search engine in case other half finds out) off the coast of Cornwall. Why? because they are receiving payment for it and the R's plan to invade us by sea. This family has had a history of smuggling dating back some 200 years and back then it was tobacco and tea when they could avoid paying taxes. There is a lot more too this story but the part about the R's I am having trouble with. For a start wouldn't it be silly for R to want to invade us by sea? and is their any current reason why they would even want to? I don't see why R would need guns etc as i'm sure I read some where they were one of the big gun captials of the world. I also worry about the implications of writing something like this given the current trend in today's society where we frown on anything related to terrorism. Back in my day I would happily watch Chuck norris movies like delta force but now they dont make these kinds of films anymore as they are considered not very PC. Same applies to the book she has written. It just doesn't feel right and I worry the agent will take this as a negative. Any thoughts? perhaps they could be smuggling something else instead? drugs?
  7. He is Malaysian(his name is Mohd Asyraf Raziq Rosli) and is currently in Royal london hospital being treated for a broken jaw and tooth. He had been walking to the shops with his friends to buy food when he was attacked. His friends got away but he wasn't so lucky.
  8. Anyone who is trying to be an apologist for these nasty group of thieving scum should watch this video http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14458424 The two girls interviewed here don't even sound sure who the current government actually is. So for anyone to think that this maybe politically motivated must be on another planet. I've got to say though also that these rioters seem to have more money than I do and have expensive trainers, phones etc. I've been working since I left college and I've never owned a blackberry nor have I owned an expensive pair of trainers.I was made redundant in october and since then have been trying very hard to find work even volunteer work. I have used the time while out of work to get more qualifications and now am working towards a Cisco CCNA.I did all this with my own savings and lots of study and not relying on anyone else.I'm 33 years old and I live in Bexley, nearly half an hour away from Lewisham. You don't see me going rioting. Why? because I was brought up very well by strict parents and I know the difference between right and wrong.
  9. I agree this has nothing to do with the original shooting incident and it has nothing to do with black youths feeling they are getting a bum deal or feeling that they are not politically represented. These people are rioting for fun. Recreational rioting. If you watch the footage and listen to the reports from members of the public on lbc 97.3 you will hear that most is just mindless violence and looting by children aged 11-18. And they happen to be mainly black and probably because areas like Lewisham, woolwich, Hackney are mainly black areas. The do gooders out there will try to justify the looting by saying it is politically motivated but this is utter crap. Why would they say this? well they are trying to dignify disgusting behaviour by lawless individuals who belong in jail or worse. Saying it is politically fueled makes the idea of youths with no understanding of right from wrong much more palatable than saying they are mad, sick and twisted. Most of these looters probably don't even know who the Prime Minister is let alone who their parents are. One man on LBC late last night phoned the radio station from the hospital because him and his friend were making their way home last night and were set upon by 4 black youths. They called out "what you looking at?". The youths then threw a brick at one of them man's heads. He is now in hospital. This has nothing to do with corporate responsibility and taking it out on DSG. Does anyone really believe these moronic youths really know what DSG is? The government and the economy is not to blame for this. This is just a large group of moronic teenagers bored and on half term running mad through the streets. I'm sure a lot of adults may have also joined the rioting for gain also and this obviously doesn't help. I would welcome the idea (at a minimum) of using tear gas, rubber bullets and getting the army to help quash this madness. The amount of strain this is going to put on everything, NHS, insurance will go up now as a result. The innocent people who pay taxes and/or live honest lives will be the ones to suffer. While these ****tards get away with murder and then brag about it. I would love to castrate and then hang the lot of them.
  10. yes i run a similar remap but I thought if you try to free up more air using a bigger intake and a "performance" filter you would need a custom remap and ideally tuned on a rolling road to get it right.
  11. cheers, yes i know the section you mean.Raised edge through the middle for the bolts. There's a 15% offer on at eurocarparts so may as well take advantage this month.
  12. I need to change my rear discs and pads. I've heard pagid are a good brand obviously but seen Eurocarparts sell eicher rear discs at £12each. anyone know if this brand is anygood and whether it really matters much what you have on the rear?
  13. yes spot on. As releasing the gas into the atmosphere knowingly is illegal.
  14. Had my air con serviced+regassed last year by skoda and it was ok for a few months then this spring tried the air con and it felt more like someone blowing air onto me than the real deal. I plugged VCDS in and got a reading of air pressor sensor fault. Had someone come have a look at it and they said its leaking from the condensor (he checked it what looked like and sounded like a toner probe/fox and hound) and he pointed to what i thought was the radiator at the front. The condensor sits in front of the rad and takes up the same space. Price to fit new condensor and regas quoted £270. I declined for now as i dont have enough money I know next to nothing about air con in cars. Does all of this sound plausible?
  15. I did think that too but i'd thought i'd clarify it. Unfortunately i can't physically check mine this week :-(
  16. does anyone know whether on the vRS(05 plate) the original wheel bolts(all 5 per wheel) need to be removed/fitted using the locking wheel nut key? or is it just one of the bolts that fit the key and the others are just easily removable?
  17. Just remove it and clean it off with brake fluid and the refit.
  18. I have seen these type of results in different situations. Sometimes on a new vehicle whether it was a car or HGV the company has asked for oil testing to be done regularly and over time even as early as 2-3 months you start seeing drops in performance (measured in centistokes). At this point oil at 40 degrees and 100 degrees falls outside of the specifications. Results of this could be the oil doesn't flow as well as it did in cold temps, compared to when it was first put in. An oil that doesn't perform as well as it originally just after a few months won't offer as much protection and they'll be shearing. I remember seeing the reports on this and there would be various metals which actually came from the engine and just after a few months use. It would be even worse after 12 months use. What also prompted me to change my oil frequently was seeing these results and also i had analysis done on my own engine oil just a few months after it was put in and had only seen about 5k miles. Don't get me wrong, current synthetic oil is very good and it is so much better than say 10-20 years ago. They resist sludging better for example. Car manufacturer's state things like "You should change your air filter every 20k" or your "fuel filter every 24k". I've seen the state of a fuel filter after two years...they can even go rusty. Then i've seen posts on here showing the pictures of their air filters that have been in their car for just 12 months and its tangled up with dead leaves, insects and is no longer the color it was when it first went in. If car manuals stated things like you must change your oil+filter every 3 months and do your air filters twice yearly, i don't think the average joe who just wants to get from a to be would be impressed. They'd say sod that i want a car where i just see a visit to the average once a year or two years even better.
  19. I do agree with you on starting and stopping your car and having a cool off period, especially important for turbos petrol or diesel. A lot of factors can affect how long an engine and turbo lasts but i believe that regular oil changes, using good quality fuel are high on the list. New fresh oil is also less susceptible to VI change which is important. I hope I don't come across rude but just want to clarify that saying "VAG have tested it endorsed it" isn't entirely accurate. There is a difference between Meeting VW504/507(adheres in this case to 5w30 petrol and diesel and PD) or VW505.01 (good old 5w40 for turbo diesel engines including PD) specification and being "Approved By VW" for those specific manufacturer standards. Slightly Off topic sorry but just to clarify there are only very very few oil manufacturers that make the VW504/507/505.01 oil that is officially approved by VW and they are Motul,Morris lubes and Quantum although to be honest the former two are better spec'd oil. To be approved by VW you have to go through far more vigorous testing vy VW in germany, than "meeting" those specs. For example Fuchs xfe pd 5w40 s/s and Titan GT1 f/s is not approved by VW. Nor is either Castrol Edge 5w30 or 5w40 which is surprising but a fact, but they like many off the shelf base oil and lubrizol packages do just meet the spec
  20. I used to work within a technical capacity for fuel and lubricants(this included oil analysis after x amount of miles) and have learnt from experience there is plenty of reason to change oil every 3 months despite what the claims suggest. I also still can get branded quality oil at very low prices..cost. I could get into a whole debate on the subject and talk about base oils, esters and PAO's, additive packages,VI, flashpoints and viscosity change at specific temperatures and of course approvals (this one isn't as cut as dry as the labelling suggests) but will leave that alone.
  21. Every weekend for the last 3 years i've been doing a 120mile run and back again, mostly motorway. And usually when people are asleep in bed or just brushing their teeth. The trip computer reports between 54mpg and 62mpg and it all depends of course on how heavy my right foot is. If i'm careful and stick to between 65-75mph then i will get into the 60's mpg. If I do 80+ then i get 54mpg Which is still very good. Again according to the trip computer but overall on a full tank i see anything between 420-500 miles.
  22. When I had a petrol non turbo car i used to use super unleaded (shell, total, bp) and didn't notice any gains in economy or performance. I've now had my vRS since 2008 and was religiously filling up with BP Ultimate but over the last few months i've been using regular diesel from shell and have noticed slightly better economy and it seems to accelerate better on it. It will no doubt run cleaner using a higher cetane based fuel but to be honest given the fact i change my engine oil every 3 months and give it a shot of forte twice a year(which i find gives excellent results), i can't see the point of using a higher cetane rated fuel. I used to think it was a good thing using v power and the like but think you can better value for money with regular maintenance.
  23. I need to practice using the Dig, IFconfig, arp ping, mtr commands.Which are used by Linux/Unix. Does anyone know whether there's any free Linux/Unix based OS's out there (or even tiny emulators that may work in windows) that will allow me to run these and try them out? i was thinking of Ubuntu but not sure if it actually has those commands. I dont want to have to download and install it and then find out bah it doesn't. Anyone know? thanks
  24. Last summer I had my air con regassed by skoda after i confirmed using VAG COM it needed regassing. All seemed to be working fine but now when i turn on the air con it isn't putting out very cold air so I checked with VCDS yesterday and it generated the following code 00819 - High Pressure Sensor (G65) Signal too low. I did find some information on this code on the ross tech website and it mentions a faulty sensor or wire. On speaking to a mechanic he suggests it could even be the air con pump. I am getting it looked at this week but would like to know please (if anyones had experience with this) if these are plausible explanations for the error and what the remedial work is likely to cost and entail? I don;t know how accurate this is but here's the info i found http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00819 thanks
