  1. 29 mpg is OK for a car of this size which would probably be about 25mpg if converted to LPG which is why I have looked at them as a possible future purchase, the other one I have been looking into is the Phaeton But only if my mileage allowance goes up a bit
  2. is this the latest in Pikey Modding? fill the car with stuff and job done
  3. love the last pic with surfboard propped up by the door LOL
  4. we usually have one of the kids with a rucksack on but then there are 6 of us when we go, we do buy drinks in the cinema but I just cant justify buying the sweets when there is a saisbury's 200 yards across the carpark
  5. I got: You are 94% tight "Everyone loves a MoneySaver, everyone hates a miser, be careful you don't cross the line with a score like that." Ba Humbug I say granted that a lot of my miserlyness is born of neccessity over the years raising four parasites children loved the one about the Ice Cream Truck though And honestly Who Doesn't take their own things to the Cinema?? you need a mortgage just for the tickets nowadays.
  6. Personally I would keep the VRS and get it gassed. more economical than the fabia and more fun
  7. best thing to do is get someone with vagcom to do some logs and check block32? as that lets you know if it has boost or vac leaks.
  8. 3-4 litres is almost an oil change so over the course of 6k miles not good. is it smokey at all when idling?
  9. Oh you are a harsh lot today as to the OP: Yes the box can be made to fit but the short answer is you would not want to as the VRS box ratios will make your car slower. The only time it is worth swapping a diesel and petrol gearbox is the other way, I.E. putting a diesel box into a petrol which will achieve a higher top speed (but the petrol would need to be in a serious state of tune for it to be worthwhile - See Steevie Wonders Sig for details)
  10. or the "Pulsing". Mine ended up punching a nice hole in the casing when is decided to pick up the loose bits in the gears and fling them around. Hope you get better news than I had.
  11. The pulsing you describe is what mine felt like after big pot hole hit last christmas. 20 or so miles of wondering what was bent and then the gearbox muched itself. On the bright side the vrs box is a lot easier to get hold of than the 4x4
  12. It has always been a bit toe'd in on the rear but it never scrubbed, like I said it looks like the steering angle at the front caused the wear at the rear. Not to bothered about it being toe'd back out a bit as I don't take the car on the track so tyre longevity is more important. The front alignement has taken a battering with the state of the roads this last two years, as well as destroying the gearbox last christmas.
  13. fronts were worn badly on inner "edges" and the rear passenger was worn right across the tyre but from in to out, with the outside being worse than the inside.. When it was on the hunter the display actually shows the tyres in the direction they are pointing, unlike the final printouts which just show the values. but it looked something like this: So I can only imagine it would be down to the thrust/steering angle being hardest on the passenger rear tyre as it was going opposite way to the other three tyres? The Hunter machine is good because it shows you visually what is wrong, makes it really easy to comprehend what they are talking about rather than just being a bunch of figures.
  14. The rear toe in was actually visible when looking at the car but I was getting bad scrubbing on back tyres. The rears actually wore quicker than the fronts?
  15. sorry to hijack thread but what mods has it got for Stage2+ Allytech?
  16. Anyone have any idea?? Now I have just had hunter 4 wheel alignment I may refurb and get some new rubber havent decided yet?
  17. The prices for Hunter allignment seem to vary quite a bit across the country but AutoStop of Porth charge £29.95 to adjust the front "tracking" £29.95 to adjust the rear "tracking" £14.?? for any camber/caster adjustments But the deal clincher for me is they offer a FREE check. Which is the first time I have seen a hunter specialist offer this, they are usually £50+ for a check and small adjustment + hourly rate after that if its a big job. Swansea Mercedes want £98+vat just to look at it? I did wonder about the adjustment on the rear but for Toe, the Cup bracket at the front of the trailing arm has slots for the bolts so the front pivot point of the arm can be moved in/out to adjust the toe angle of the wheel. The Hunter system even shows the diagrams for the individual cars and what needs to be adjusted. Even tells the tech what tools are required. Very impressive bit of kit I also had all 4 wheels balanced at the same time on their hunter balancers.
  18. Just managed to score a Hunter 4 wheel alignment for the 4x4 courtesy of AutoStop of Porth Closest ones to Bridgend but you can search all over!! I always thought the rear end was not adjustable but turns out it is BEFORE: AFTER: Definately worth the extra compared to the butchery that normally gets passed of as "Tracking"
  19. dont forget when you do the box you also need: Drive Shaft - think its the passenger side one Drive shaft cover is different and needs to be cut unless you relocate the boost pipes Front half of Prop is different but the back is the same so either just the front half or all needs to be changed depends on condition of existing one. Make sure you get the front donut as well. Make sure you have the selector mech as they dont transfer. I ended up with an R32 one which is a shorter throw. you also need the Flywheel and clutch. some of the bolts are different as well just cant remember which ones I remeber its the ones for the selector cable bracket Its better to have all the bits before you start otherwise its just delay after delay after delay :(
  20. I have the R32 shocks and springs if your interested as I have had to prioritise other things before suspension. like 10 year old bushes and scrubbing tyres
  21. 17's with some staining under the laquer so they would benefit from a respray. I keep looking at alloy tyre combos and finding it hard to justify buying tyres when you can get a set of four with reasonable tread etc for the price of a single new tyre.
  22. what is the going rate for Mk1 Octavia vrs alloys? I need some new tyres for mine and trying to decide if it would be better to sell them on and get some different ones?
  23. Is this rods and ends or just rods?
  24. why not get yours repaired by one of the companies doing hybrid? uprated internals etc
