  1. Second car I have bought from Benfield. It is fair dealership but this time around, after sales leaves a bit to be desired. I had courtesy follow up call and said that I felt pre-delivery Valet left bit to be desired. I also mentioned no Umbrella with the car. The lady caller said she would contact sales person and get him to give me a call. Still waiting. It's small things that make a difference and I fear I will go and spend my money elsewhere next time. If Benfield cannot give me a call after they have taken my money, it leaves me disappointed. Rev J Weir
  2. I just got swan neck towbar fitted yesterdaya nd sensors pick it up as soon as i put into reverse. Any way around it or is it case of replace with detatchable?
  3. I would say your dealer is well off the mark with hsi offer. I have just traded in an 06 Superb elegance 2-5 diesel 51000 miles and they gave me five and half thousand for it against a 61 plate 1.8tsi superb elegance Don't know if that is any help to you jimw
  4. Problem I have with Specialist Cars is was it was they and not Warranty Direct (external Warranty) who were asking they do investigation. When I put the car in I informed them of the original diagnosis given to me "It was a fulty ECU". They then decided it's not ECU. We think it's wiring and according to them they then spent 9 hours trying to trace a non existent wiring fault. In fairness when the car went in I was told three hours plus parts to diagnose and repair it and that is why I agreed to pay for the three hours supposed investigation IE £206 charge. Specialist Cars claim that they then most generously did me the favour of not charging for a supposed other 6 hours they claim to have spent investigating a non existent wiring fault. Yesterday I was then informed "Mr Weir, we now think it's a faulty ECU that is wrong with your car. Repair Cost Parts and five hours labour £1036. In fairness Warranty Direct have now authorised repair. My moan is the way that they have been so dis-ingenuous with the truth throughout the whole episode. When I challenged the receptionist today about this, itw as silence. I mentioned to her how she had informed me that "They had no courtesy Cars Available They were all out" only to produce one from thin air when the car went wonky less than two mins after paying £206 and driving 40 yards down the road fromthe garage. Her response, "Ah but Mr Weir that car is one that is for sale" I am left to wonder why it has Specialist Skoda Aberdeen Cars stamped in large letters across the boot as a courtesy car would have. I don't mind paying if it is needed but I do hate people giving me a run around and insulting my intelligence because I obviously know sod all about cars.
  5. SPECIALIST CARS ABERDEEN DEBACLE I had an e-mail today from Specialist cars I phoned them to be told how after having my car for 9 days they had finally diagnosed what was wrong. It had gone in with a warning light and "Emissions Workshop" showing. I had been informed that the E.C.U. was at fault and would require to be replaced. I passed this info onto Specialist Skoda Aberdeen when I took the car in. They investigated and decided there was a fault in the wiring some place. Oddly enough with exception of drivers seat everything electrical on the car worked perfect. They charged me £206 for replacing a relay switch and informing me that the fault had not been repaired, but they had managed to get warning light to go out. (Drivers seat is still not working). After long discussion, I paid and left. I did not drive forty yards before warning light came back on with exact same fault. I immediately returned the car back and was informed that they would investigate and try to trace the fault. That was on Thurs last week and heard no more until today Tuesday GUESS WHAT? WAIT FOR IT. My E.C.U. is faulty and will need to be replaced. I have been without my car for 9 days, paid Specialist Skoda Aberdeen £206 and I am now informed that the very information that I passed on at the start, IE. The E.C.U. was faulty is correct after all. It gets even better because I have been told that the part will cost £599 and can take up to five hours to fit, but even better still, the part is on back order and will not be available for 8 days. You could not make this up Be honest folks and remember I am a minister (Vicar) Is there a more inept dealership than Specialist Skoda Aberdeen? I have owned three previous Skoda cars without having any real problems but I have to say, even though I like my Superb, it's comfy car to drive, I am finished with Skoda. I really don't need the hassle
  6. Thanks folks The Info gleaned has been most helpful and I will keep you up-dated as to the outcome. I really don't know why I say it because on past experience this is much of what I have come to expect, but I am just so disappointed in Specialist Skoda with this whole episode. Car has been in for three working days, cost £206. even though they admitted it was not repaired. Get ready to take car home and I drive less than fifty yards and the original warning fault light returns. Again a sincere and real Thank you!
  7. You are the second person to mention ECU to me about this fault. I went to collect my car this evening. Specialist Skoda told me they had fixed a relay but it was still showing error codes but the light on the dashboard had now gone off. The Garage had taken the car for a thirty mile test drive and had no problems with it. After speaking to the Ladies at reception I then had a long discussion with the Service Manager and the upshot was that I was told the car had not been fully repaired as there were still error codes but they had only estimated three hours and even though it had been worked on for more than three hours they were only charging me for three hours for looking at the car, even though they had worked on car for much longer but failed to diagnose the problem and fix it. I asked if they were unable to fix my car. I was told they could but they would not be able to get near it until next week. In meantime I was left paying £206 for a car diagnostic checks and repair of one faulty relay. The Faulty codes were still showing on the garage diagnostic check but the error light on panel had been cured. I asked if I could leave the car and receive a courtesy car. Was told there were none available. After much discussion I agreed payment of £206 and if problem problem re-occurred it would go back in for further investigation with an agreed maximum of five hours labour to be charged to find the fault and repair it. Guess what I took my car to go home but did even manage to get fifty yards down the road when the warning light came back on with "Emissions Workshop". I turned the car around and went back. Low and behold. Staff did not know where to look:::::::::::::: I was found a courtesy car. I have been told my car will not be attended to until next week at the earliest but at least we have agreed a maximum limit of charges for no more than another five hours investigation. That will bring charges to find an electrical fault to eight hours of investigation at £60 an hour. I wish I could earn that kind of money!
  8. Car still in garage Skoda Specialist Aberdeen. Dropped it off on Thurs. to be looked at on Friday. Finally phoned this morning to say that there is a loose wire somewhere. Quoted me three hours at cost of £180 to find it. When I phoned this afternoon still not found what fault is. So much for warranties. Does not cover wiring faults. Manager told me can take as much as ten hours to trace a wiring fault. Charging £60 an hour labour rate---------- Why am i am not surprised?
  9. Hi Folks i just got car back from Volkswagen garage. I drove car up from Paignton to Aberdeen Saturday - Sunday towing caravan no problems at all. Monday fueled up with diesel and half an hour later when I went out and started car up an "Emissions Workshop" light came on. The Car Superb 2.5 is driving fine then just loses power. I put it into VW Garage and got it back with the following list of error codes 01375 Valves for engine shorting to ground 17809 EGR Valve short to ground 01686 Control module for cooling fan short to ground 01262 Solenoid valve for boost pressure short to ground "All above intermittent faults" He has checked power supply tests on all and it is "OK" "Diagnosis Faulty ECU" He reckons I need a new comp. and must take it to the Dealership to have this done. Problem is that the Dealership in Aberdeen is not the nicest after I stopped buying from them. I have an external warranty that covers ECU so not overly worried if they pay out Any advice appreciated. jimw
  10. Thanks to everyone for replies. Timing part seems correct as garage said that the Timing was all over place and could not get it re-set because of fuel pump. I have a Gold Warranty with Warranty Direct so here's hoping. RAC Put laptop on it and said it's a fuel pump. Garage used their system and said it's a fuel pump. Warranty Direct say, "It may be a Fuel Pump but we need an engineer to inspect it and ensure that is what it is" It really does not fill me with confidence, especially as I am now informed "I do not qualify for Hire Car as cover only commences after eight hours. The estimate for the job is three and half hours so no Hire Car. I was informed they do not consider car being unfit for purpose as time but whet they call "Spanner Time" IE only the time a mechanac actually takes to do repair. I have to fork out a £150 for hire car and no re-compense. As a follow up can I ask, The garage has told me they have to take the front off the car to do repair. As the car is four years old next month I have asked if they could do the Timing belt whilst it is stripped down. Head mechanic has told me I am looking at an additional 3 hours work (£58 per hour) plus parts and VAT. Sorry to be ignorant but I do not have the first clue about engines. Is an additional 3 extra hours to do timing belt at the same time as the Fuel Pump about right? thanks again for replies rjimw
  11. Hi There i have an 06 Superb 2.5TD and yes I l know Roto all things said about them. I was out in it yesterday morning, no problems. Came home, had lunch and went out white smoke belting out of it and no power. RAC used small PC diagnosis Fuel Pump. Took to Skoda Garage Diagnosis Fuel Pump. Warranty Direct "Probably is Fuel Pump but engineer needs to examine before authorise warranty". "Unusual for fuel pump to go on car only done 31k miles" They are telling me it will cost over £2,000. I am still shock! Cannot believe it! I have asked Garage to change Timing belt whilst they have it stripped down as it is almost 4 years old. Is this a real price for a fuel pump for Superb?
  12. I have a 2006 Superb 2.5 elegance and notice that I am getting mild rattle (clunk clunk clunk) when leaning into cornering, especially to the one side. It is under Skoda warranty but this runs out beginnings of Nov. Anyone any ideas what it might be? Also does anyone here have any experience of Tesco Warranty. I am being quoted £359 a year for their highest standard warranty, which looks good value. For peace of mind I will buy a warranty. Does anyone have any experience of Tesco warranty? Thank you in advance for any replies jimw
  13. Just got my car back from Victoria Garage Maud after my car being in for a service. This is my fourth Skoda, I have had 2 Octavia and 2 Superbs. Have been a customer of what was Village Garage Cults and later became Specialst Cars Aberdeen. Even though I had bought previous Cars from Specialist, I hated having to go in to them to have any work done, even having it serviced. Any time I have dealt with Specialist cars I have left the place feeling that they had done me a favour that I had to pay for. What a contrast and what pleasant experience from the folks at Maud. It may be a 60 mile round trip but it's worth it. I can say in all honesty that Victoria Garage, Maud has gained another satisfied Customer. My thanks to this Forum for being pointed in Victoria Garage direction and I will be delighted to return to these folks. They can have my business from now on. I cannot believe the difference in attitude where people treat you like a customer and not some kind of nuisance. jimw
  14. I took delivery of an 06 superb elegance last week. drives like a dream but couple of little niggles. One is dash display comes up in German on and off. Had this problem with my last Superb as well but Specialist said they could not find anything wrong. Is this a problem with Superb? Other thing is when i start engine again on intermittent basis service light comes on telling me it is due a service in 700/now 600 miles. Car was serviced at 19k and has only done 20k The service book is stamped as being serviced only three months ago. Other little niggle is drivers seat heater works on and off. I phoned dealer i bought it from on-line down at Harrogate and he had booked it into Specialist cars Skoda dealer here in Aberdeen. I asked him to book it in because they can be a real pain the ---- Car was due to go in On Friday to have service warning re-set. I had phone call tonight saying they are not allowed to do this and that car has to be taken back to dealer who serviced it and have them re-set the service indicator. Car is still under warranty as it is only two years old. Sorry to be thick but is this computer related or nothing to bother with? Thanks in advance jimw
  15. sorry I thought i was in Superb section and yes do have sat nav. thanks for pointing this out. I will transfer to superb. thanks rjim
  16. message moved should have been in superb section
  17. Looking at some of the reviews of Specialist and the waiting for calls to be returned, waiting for parts to arrive, waiting for disks to do update and flash the computer, Funny all the calls that never come and the discs that never arrived. Be fore reading this forum I had thought it was only me. It really does all sound very familiar. Glad to see Maud Motors do skoda servicing and they have just found another customer as I really hate the attitude at Specialist. I have bought my first Octavia soon after they were first intoduced from what was formerly Village Garage, now Specialist cars aberdeen. When it was Village Garage they were really nice friendly dealership. Bought my next Octavia three years later had changed name to Specialist cars. I placed order before I had moved away and had driven 150 miles to collect new car from them. had to argue to get a tank of Diesel after spending 16,500 on elegance estate car. Moved back to Aberdeen and went back after the car was three old to look for a Superb. I honestly felt that the salesman was doing me a favour in even speaking to me. Trade in offer was abysmal and it was a case of take it or leave it. I decided to leave it and bought a superb from Queensborough motors Glasgow. Got £1,000 better trade in offer and far superior deal against new car. Strange how attitudes can change at some places. I ponce dropped in past with my working clothes on, (I am a minister and had suit and dog collar on) different attitude altogether. I decided to try something different from Skoda and must be honest and say that Specialist cars attitude was a contributory factor inthat decision. After six months running a vauxhall signum I have gone back to Superb. I dropped past a few weeks ago to take a look at new superb. They had one parked outside and as soon as I began looking a salesman came out. I asked him to give me an idea of the cost of an equivalent to comfort model. He could not tell me unless I went inside to find out. All he was interested in was getting me inside and would not even give me an idea of the price range. I went online and found a car that I wanted and have ordered it up and the service is second to none. It has a 30 days if I don't like it to change my mind and is backed by full skoda warranty. Sorry to say this but in my opinion this companies attitude really sucks and does not deserve customers in the manner they treat them. Sorry but I do not need Specialist cars to spend my hard earned cash and am really gald to take it elsewhere.
  18. i really couldn't see a dog being happy in the boot of superb, seats folded or not. Thanks to all for replies Idea was to fold down rear seats and put dog in the back--- not the boot. My last 3 cars been skoda, Octavia then Octavia elegance estate but found thsoe bit light for stopping the van, so I had bought a Superb 1.9 comfort which took a real hammering in the back seat with dog jumping after her walk and a swim in river. I live in a city and need to travel a few miles to be able to let dog out for a run and exercise. This was main reason why I changed and went for vauxhall signum, but after just 6 months i really missed my superb and gone and buying another. My last was Comfort 1.9 on 54 plate and was an excellent towcar with absolutely no problems other than daft dog but i wanted an auto this time around, so Signum is going traded in for a superb 2.5 elegance on a 06 plate with 18k on clock. I cannot believe what dealers were only prepared to offer me on a signum 2 years old and 15k on clock. It really is scary. One offered less than 5k trade in. rjimw
