  1. You may wish to have a chat with Alex at vw-retrofit.co.uk. I am pretty sure he retrofits the digital cluster and can code. He retrofitted adaptive cruise control on my Kodiaq. I discussed doing the digital cluster at the time.
  2. I purchased a nearly new car from Skoda Stockport 18 months ago. Long story short they had hidden damage to the car with just 1500 miles on the clock which I found the week following the purchase. A long process of resolution followed thereafter however I found their ethics, honesty and quality of work to be highly suspect. I would personally find another dealer.
  3. I experienced exactly the same issue as yourself. I could lever off the lower section of trim but following the manual I could not release the upper half and felt like I would break the trim. I was not brave enough to apply the force it probably needs. I managed to connect the wires using 2 of the 4 the wiper cables and install a USB socked on the top of the trim using the gap made as shown in your photo. I was then able to plug my dashcam into the new ignition fed socket. By removing the wiper cable plug from the unit I was able to get access to tap the cables. I used a multi meter to determine the ignition fed leads. I had to use a torch and the video from my phone to understand the layout. It was awkward but work out in the end.
  4. May be your water pump. The symptoms are possibly indicative the pump is intermittently not opening when the engine is warm to circulate coolant. I had this issue with these symptoms on my 190tdi. Water pump replacement fixed the issue. No errors get thrown up when this happens, just a engine that overheats intermittently when temp is reached. Your dealer should be able to confirm if it is the pump. As stated by SuperbTWM above.
  5. Always liked the Canton, it is definitely better than the standard audio for the price and does require adjusting the settings to get the best out of it. A good source makes a difference. I saw no difference in my speakers performance from day one to now with running in. Suggest lag is not the issue with the diesel rather non linear throttle response which a pedal response box improves. May well be different now.
  6. I have a 190tdi Edition 7 seat and do find the ride a little firm over poor road surfaces at times however changing the tyre pressures from eco to comfort (2.7 to 2.4 bar) makes a difference which I personally find more comfortable.
  7. Just a thought and quite possibly unhelpful at this point however I fitted a USB lighter socket into the tailgate trim on the boot. Wired into the wiper motor loom which is ignition switched. USB cable just runs round the window to the dashcam at the top. Can share more if helpful.
  8. Chose the 110bhp Fabia. The extra 6th gear helps for more relaxed motorway cruising and the extra power noticeable. Looked for and have disc brakes rear as drum was an option. Also have a spare in the boot, steel 15" and the tyre fitted matches the tyres fitted to the 15" wheels on the car. Purchased 2nd hand and put 12k on it with no issues at all. As an SE spec I fitted the OEM centre arm rest, door scuff plates, rubber mats. Enabled corner lights, hill start assist and auto door locking / unlocking with OBDEleven.
  9. I do similar driving with my 190tdi. No DPF issues at all. 3 years in. Last Skoda diesel was sold with 120k on the clock following similar driving too. Again never had DPF issues. My vehicles are keepers.
  10. As above, you need an inline fuse. Use a multimeter with the fuse out to determine the positive and insert accordingly or wiring diagram. Obviously not on a fuse that will trigger an issue such as the airbag. Rear wiper was my choice. The other option was the blind spot fuse (if you have the option). Decided to determine the polarity as I did not want to draw extra current across the fuse that was drawn off. Not that it really matters with the original fuse rating plus the small current draw of the dash cam.
  11. I used a breakout wire akin to the one in the link above. It allows you to use the rear wiper fuse and not be restricted
  12. Mine is 210cm total based on Thule aerobars (+6cm) as in picture above with a Halfords Exodus roofbox (+36cm).
  13. JR - So your original response that lubricant is not required is superseded by a masterclass in PAG oil specificity stating the percentages are minimal. Excellent.
  14. I did articulated the point incorrectly as highlighted by Brun, my point was just to highlight oil is added and it does lubricate the system which does protect components.
  15. Regularly maintaining your aircon can be worthwhile, specially if you plan to keep the car. The gas also contains a lubricant for the compressor. I waited a little too long on my last car and paid the price.
  16. Snow mode helps, it adjusts the ABS to allow more slip, the traction control is adjusted to allow the wheels to slip when pulling away, throttle response is softened. AWD is engaged too (if you have it). DSG engages 2nd gear to pull away (irrelevant for you appreciated). These all help. I ran mine on summer tyres in snow mode and it made a discernible difference to the general control and stability of the vehicle. Winter tyres undoubtedly help but snow mode alone makes a difference.
  17. I used OBD11 to enable, along with cornering lights and autolocking etc. Incidentally you can also change the gradient at which hill hold engages. OBD11 has an app for hill hold on the Fabia, one click enable. I manually changed the adaption however.
  18. Completely agree, if you do not like my bright lights leave a gap. I would rather be seen than not. As a driver I would personally not consider someone behind me is inconvenienced by my brake lights. Equally I have never found brake lights on any car an inconvenience or difficult to accommodate.
  19. Depends on the actual tread left. Based on this and how close tread is to 1.6mm and considering we are entering autumn / winter where tread matters more with adverse weather conditions I would probably change all four. That would be my thought process based on the mileage I do and the fact my 3 kids are in the car most of the time.
  20. I was told by Autoglass that if the chip fitted inside a 2p coin it would be repairable however the chip has to be big enough for the fix to work. Mine was too big to repair. I am a distrusting soul and went to my dealer who used National Windscreens to do the actual glass swap. The dealer then calibrated the camera. It was Skoda OEM glass that is also heated. I paid an additional excess with LV as I did not use their authorized repairer (Autoglass). The job took 2 hours while I waited, all systems function perfectly along with the heated screen. I did pay a bigger excess to do it this way but it gave me some peace of mind from various stories I have read. Interestingly the skoda dealer said they use National Windscreens every time and recommended them. They do not use Autoglass. This was my approach.
  21. It is not the cheapest and the results are down to how well you follow the instructions but the results are good if you are patient.
  22. I average 38mpg with our 190tdi DSG. That is virtually all local driving and relatively short distances. On a run with mixed cycle that lifts to 43-45. On a steady motorway run with good average speed almost 50mpg. Winter cold weather drops the mpg notably by a few mpg across the aforementioned averages. I drive gently with mechanical appreciation 95% of the time. I do not accelerate or brake hard generally.
  23. I did not use the touch-up sticks for stone chips. For me they do not provide the control or detail and make more of a mess than the the original chip. I use a Chipex kit. I have touched up stone chips in the bonnet, bumper and door. The are practically invisible afterwards of you follow the instructions exactly. Or, if you proceed with the tocuh-up stick purchase some touch up paint micro brushes, ebay do them. They give fine, accurate control to apply the paint https://www.chipex.co.uk/shop/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwhb36BRCfARIsAKcXh6H5NcE5gFn3LjWqnTGnqHLKBKlQdEqUv4dzrTBiYJlGkaT0dimTcUIaAqhQEALw_wcB
  24. I had exactly this issue within the first 3 months of buying our Kodiaq. Started with the odd non-start when pressing. Then had to press a specific side of the button to get to get it to work. Gradually got worse. The start button was replaced under warranty. Quick job, no hassle. Never had an issue since being replaced.
