  1. Now fitted! Thread is here http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/200995-coilovers-fitted/page__p__2383944#entry2383944
  2. I got my vmaxx coilies fitted today by my friend at his garage. Initial impressions, the ride is lovely, very comfortable but without the underdamping sometimes found. Perfect compromise between hard and comfortable! It's been dropped 50mm, but I may go a bit lower! Before the ride height was an utter disgrace. when parked and looking at it in the right light, you could see the shock absorber piston, it looked like a scout and did it no favours. Now it's low it looks really elegant and svelte! This is the terrible ride height! Now with the coilovers fitted! It's dropped about 10mm since the photos were taken as well! I am so happy with it. Anyone thinking of lowering their Octy, do it, and do it with coilovers, it's worth the extra expense ten fold. Thanks for looking!
  3. Thanks dude! I got it from eBay, it was about a tenner for a big sheet. I ordered two large sheets incase of FUBAR. I'd like to see some piccies! Right, it is quite an awkward job, but not awfully difficult if you've had experience of car trim before. The light switch surround just pops out with the light switch module. The small piece of trim between the steering wheel surround and centre console just pulls off, get your fingers under it and prize it off. I do have a nice trim removal tool and I'd reccomend one to anyone, it made the job a lot easier. The strip below the passenger airbag was a complete pain, mainly for accessibility, I have a really bad back and found it hard to get down on the floor. You have to drop the glovebox and surrounding trim to gain access to the strip and there's three torx bits, and speedclips holding it in place, access is really tight behind the trim so you need small hands. Also, when you drop the glovebox make sure you don't let the weight of it hang on the cables going into it, as they're for the airbag switch and it could mess the whole system up costing big bucks!
  4. I had some Trico aero wipers on my Nissan and they were really good! I have Bosch aerotwins on my Octavia atm and they're pretty good!
  5. Has it been done? I have a hybrid turbo on mine and run a remap, and I'm thinking a bigger FMIC would be an idea as it'd look good too! Has anyone done one on a Mk2?
  6. Right we're up to ten now. I have reserved a stand for twenty cars when they asked prelimanarily in march. I can take people after the deadline but only if their interest is brand new, not people whove been humming and arring etc Cool!
  7. What Octavia is it? A mk2 (1Z)? If so, yes the fitment (PCD) will be the same but I am not sure about the offset. Thermistos are lovely wheels, I always thought they'd look good on my Octavia before I got my LMs! Good luck!
  8. Daz, how are you finding the TFSI over the torquey but venerable iron horse that was the PD? I find that although coilovers are slightly stiffer the ride control is better and gets the bump over and done with better. I hate the bouncyness you get with spring shock kits. I was told that the V Maxx kit is slightly more comfortable so I'll report back to you mate, and let you know how I'm getting on! Your vRS would well suit a low ride IMO!
  9. Hey there, looking to install a sub and amp not my mk2 combo to give a bit of a puNch now and then. I have the sub and amp ready to go in but I was wondering how hard it is running cables in the mk2? Is there anywhere in the sills for them to go? And is there a rubber bung in the bulkhead? I have a columbus which means no pre outs, but I do have a little RCA-line level adapter box, do i just tap that into the rear left speaker wires?
  10. just been out and the light is exactly the same... And some more ammo to my "it hasn't affected light output" The parabolic reflector on the Octy is that silver, unpainted part. The black (previously chrome) had no optical qualities all the reflective part of that light is purely centred on the round (and unpainted part) in this crude diagram here: And yes, I am a geek, I am halfway through a photography degree so I do understand the light dynamics and optics
  11. This thread reminds me of a family friend who owned a Nissan dealer many moons ago. There was this incredibly obnoxious customer whom had purchased an Almera, and had been back to the dealer several times and complained about several things which were pure RTFM issues. Anyway, the final straw came when Mr Rudeangryson came back and complained he had nowhere to keep his pen (he liked to write down registrations of people who'd "wronged" him on the road). Anyway, our buddy had a suggestion. said in a very well spoken voice, "How about up your ar*e? And for this special occasion, a dealer fit option will be free of charge!" I keep my nice (for the car, not my lush home pen!) In the lil cubby on top the dash, and as it's rubber lined it's also vibration free and doesn't slide (especially as the pen in question has a rubber grip!) Everyone's a winner!
  12. coilovers are here. Second black Mk2 Octavia estate on vmaxx coilovers... Brimma and I are the elite, minus the gold rims ;)

  13. just got home and found these in my room, dunno what to do with them, there's four or them, four springs and these odd screwy turny things, that spin round on these big rods kind of like the ones that hold the boot up, but more heavy duty :S In all seriousness, they're my new v-maxx coilovers! Ordered them from Damian @ DPM on Friday (the day after thursday, gotta get ready for the weekend, weekend) although I don't think the current ride height is too bad, is it? Thanks! ps, they don't have helper springs, is that normal? never had coilovers before like these ones so not sure
  14. and yes it needs lowering, and those hand prints are my responsibility but not mine
  15. Hehe. I'm pretty pleased with it, I took it out just now and walked back to the car at a petrol station and noticed it looked a bit sportier at the front. I think it won't have any impact on the light as all the reflecting and aiming has been done by the time the light reaches that part of the assembly, the light beam is only as big as that lense and it'll just shine straight past the painted part.
  16. No they won't I've done this on lots of headlights and fogs in the past and the lens is stuck on there hard, and for some redundancy I've run a bead all the way around the cut too! Even un modified they usually steam up after a wash as they're vented.
  17. James, don't know what you mean by looks different matey but I assume you mean does it affect light output? Nope and the part I painted is totally non reflective and just there for show, the bit that's still silver is the only reflective piece the only way I could get the lens off was to cut it where it met the back of the housing, this is hidden by the bumper and it was a very clean cut. It's now sealed with aquarium sealant.
  18. all that work on my fog lights and not one thread comment :(

    1. Wardy

      Wardy

      Here's one... ;-)

  19. it was a lovely day today so I decided to do something I had planned even before I had the car! It was pretty scary splitting the polycarbonate (which stinks when cut and is in my hair now, eww!) but in the end I think it looks great. Thanks for looking! And before anyone says anything the coilovers are being fitted this week and will be going from one extreme to another, yay!
  20. I've got a set of genuine Skoda aero bars waiting to fit to my Octy Just need to get some replacement end caps!
  21. Boost leak by the sounds of it. That and it's a Ford, so could be all manner of things.
  22. after a bit of research and looking around I am now a proud owner of VMaxx coilovers. I know the Bilstein gang will be looking down their noses at me but I chose this kit as I've been told they're a bit more comfortable than FKs etc, and the price point was excellent too. Thanks to Damien at DPM for sorting it all out, very professional and friendly service and helpful even before the purchase. Getting my mate Faz at Specialist Tyres in Letchworth to fit them now, with an initial drop of around 55mm!
  23. Dr Stuart Rowan was later found, accidentally drowned at 3M's manafacturing facility, in a vat of 3M Basecoat paint.
