  1. Always, it's not normal unless I have some music playing on my lovely amped Helix components and 50kgs of sound deadening!!
  2. I have a very discrete Rolex Submariner which I love but it's too flashy for everyday usage. Always scared someone'll 'regulate' me warren G style. I have a normal Accurist chrono for daily wear, and a new iPod nano with the Nixie tube clock mode set I love watches! I want to get a genuine Nixie tube watch like Steve Wozniak's!
  3. I had the opportunity to buy my other brother (not dstev, he has an aversion to cars over 3 years old and less than 180bhp!) Nissan Terrano this christmas. He had bought a new car and needed the space quickly. I paid £190 for it. It has 120k on the clock, and it's never been offroaded, it has the leather seats, electric sunroof, aircon and roof rails. Plus it's also a seven seater! I have looked on Autotrader and ones with less equipment and more miles are selling for about 2 grand. So I think it was a bargain! here's the only pic i have (taken with my 10mm sigma lens!) plans are; chunky AT tyres general tidy up machine polish 4 spotlight pod on roof HID conversion (has projectors!) full service including trans fluid, f&r diffs iPad installation on the dash for maps and inclinometer remap straight through exhaust milner offroad springs and KYB oil shocks 16" Navara wheels, better tyre choice subwoofer respray silver bumpers and cladding in Nissan tornado grey (like my old primera, have loads of cans left!) nice bull bar for spotlamps snorkel it'll be a nice addition to the fleet, as it means I won't have to risk buggering the octavia up come next winter, and the snow etc bit pikey i know but i hope the octavia offsets that!
  4. My local Skoda dealers are beyond excellent (Progress). The TFSI engine afaik is good on oil, my sister in law has a TSI Yeti and it hasn't used any oil. DSG box is lovely, as is the Superb. I would have one in a heartbeat if funds allowed, and in L&K spec I would imagine it's motoring heaven.
  5. four brand new (not reconditioned) genuine VAG injectors for my BKD Octavia. Just waiting to have them fitted by Unit 18 later this month. I won't say how much I paid for them, as I don't want to make you ill! this should fix the misfire! going for a live map as well from the masters - Motech in Northampton.
  6. Nice to have a bit of vavavoom back. He really is a star and a nice chap too, met him at a charity event once I'm a gunner as well as all three of my brothers.
  7. What juristiction does the RIAA have in the UK anyway? They're a US based body. I would have thought you'd have gone to the next step and downloaded a missus, GG
  8. I'd be tempted to check your fuel filter and also your MAF sensor, Springwood. By the way, have you got wood? It's good to know that stealers are universally evil, the world over, though - and not just a UK thing.
  9. I'll be there too but I would like to go on a stand. Last year I sorted out a show and it took a year off my life lol
  10. Oh loads of symptoms of a dropped injector now I think about it. **** poor starting sometimes. Doesn't want to 'catch' and coughs into life. Rough idle. Down on power. Stuttering in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear under heavy throttle. Juddering on overun like when you approach a roundabout with your clutch depressed. Now I've got the codes I'm gonna source four low mileage injectors, and get it mapped properly as well. Bluefin. Do. Not. Want.
  11. Thanks ever so much for the part numbers. Now I can get on and hunt one down to replace the one that's on its last legs. I'm afraid I'd be spitting into the wind WRT to warranty/goodwill. She has done 156k so it's only expected. Plus Skoda have never been one to help or give a toss on this car from new, with it's cracked cylinder head from 25k and them being adamant that a litre of coolant loss every three days was normal....! They kicked and dragged their heels on that one until just out of warranty, and then they even only covered the cost of the part. Great cars but the aftersales is terrible and makes me think twice about buying in the future. It's not as if they're even a cheap option any more!
  12. Oh yes :( Firstly I let my membership lapse although I am sorting that! Booked the Octavia into Unit 18 to have a bad oil leak attended to, leaking cam cover and a bung being the main culprits. This all sorted out well as per usual and what one comes to expect with Unit18. Found out one of my injectors is on its arse :( Bad news :( I keep trying to find the part number for the injector my car needs. It's a BKD engine. This would be most helpful as it'd allow me to source a spare. Thanks! And the oil leak has reacted with two of the bushes, so need a new dogbone mount and lower wishbone bush. Just what I needed/wanted before xmas :( Apart from that everything else is going good! Hope you're all well, sorry I never get time to come on here any more :( *waves at Martin, Bryan et al!
  13. erm... NO! I've seen someone wipe polycarbonate with that and it went all sticky and reacted. Plastics and solvents don't mix. Hence my need for a replacement focusing screen on my D7000...
  14. Don't go anywhere near new polycarbonate headlights with solvents. They don't take to well to that sort of thing.
  15. need to renew my freedom, but buying some grumble on the internet has set off the fraud bells and Halifax have stopped my card. A man can't even buy a bit of filth nowadays without hassle. FML.

  16. Thanks mate. I'm really excited about this project! My dad's a hobbyist carpenter and general craft legend so he'll be helping me do the boot install, he's been looking online for some inspiration! It's gonna look very very special and a real 'wow' when the boot's open!
  17. Well, what just started as a quick speaker upgrade has turned into a full blown SQ install that is ruining me financially Just a quick run down on the project I have on the boil at the moment to get the Octavia sounding as good as an Audi with a B&O system, or a noncey Naim system in a Bentley. (in bold = purchased/already fitted) Head unit: Volkswagen RNS-510 "Columbus" with 80GB HDD, full european mapping, DVD player and iPod functionality, with an iPhone 4 connected with spotify premium Line Output Converter (purchasing late november) This will allow me to take a signal from the OEM head unit (which will be switched into external signal mode) to give me high quality, high voltage pre-outs to feed the two amplifiers. It'll also afford me some fine grain control over frequencies and gain to give me the ultimate SQ (sound quality) experience. This is going to live in the glovebox. Amplifier 1 An SQL four-channel amplifier producing 4 x 140W RMS (360w peak) driving the four component speakers. Amplifier 2 An SQL Class-D digital monoblock amplifier. These amps have one job, and one channel. That job is crisp, precise quality bass and to drive a sub woofer. Component Speakers Helix Blue. 50wrms/320w peak. These speakers are made by a German company called Helix. They're not a bright orange colour, they don't have any lights to flash with the music. They are purely for unsurpassed sound quality and performance. Restrained design and the highest end components available for under 300 quid. What you don't get is silly patterns and gimmicks. Just pure quality and engineering. I've ordered two sets, front and rear for a great 8.1 surround experience for when I'm watching movies on the Columbus. Subwoofer. Having had many subwoofers in the past of varying sizes, from a custom 8" ported enclosure to a free air 15" one. I have decided I want a ten inch cone as it'll be a good balance between constant bass handling and quick response punch. This will be installed in free air, and inverted on my boot floor (i'm having a custom boot build - photoshop to come) I have settled for a Hertz 10" HX250. At 220 quid it's phenomanol value for money and will look really great in the boot with some nice white LED lighting. It handles around 450 Watts Continuous and is absolutely huge. And weighs 13kg! installation and soundproofing My Octavia has a variable boot floor which gives you a large compartment under a sturdy MDF 2 fold lid. I am going to mount the sub in the middle of this, and have it resonating into free air. I am also going to cut a releif into the box, and put a tray under it, for the amplifiers to live in, covered in perspex with a 'Skoda' logo laser etched into it. This will be complemented by white LEDs, and several hidden computer case fans to keep those puppies cold when they're working hard. I am buying a bulk pack of Dynamat Xtreme and I'm addressing the Octavia's biggest weakness. Road noise. The areas I'll be soundproofing are; All door skins Roof skin under the rear seats behind the dashboard boot floor/spare wheel well boot cubby holes tailgate lid skin and I'll also be spraying some Damplifier Second Skin in areas it's not practical to coat in roll soundproofing. The sound proofing alone will add around 40-50kgs to the weight of the car but it's damn quick as it is, and for the sound quality I'll get from this project, it'll be a very small price to pay. All in this project should see me the bad side of a grand but I keep my cars for a long while, so sod it! I know this has gone on a bit but it's really exciting for me to have another project that I can do now i'm better! I haven't listed stuff like cabling, and fused distrubution blocks, but they'll be installed first! Thanks for reading and I'll be glad to give you a demo if you want! (oh, and if you meet my girlfriend at a meet, it was bought for me by my parents and brother ) Nik
  18. i've just bought some sexy speakers for my 1z (some helix components front and back - schwing!) and I have a couple of nice 90s Alpine amps I have laying about I used to use in my Nissan. I was wondering how to drive the amps? As the RNS-510 has no pre-out functionality as far as I'm aware. Will it be a case of line level input, and will that sound utter turd?
  19. how much oil should i put in when the orange level warning comes up on the maxipad?

    1. fordfan

      fordfan

As a rule it is around a litre from min to max, start off with a quarter of a litre and dip the oil, then add small amounts to bring it to the max

  20. Riiight! I'm an avid music fan and love a bit of sound quality. Sadly my two woofers in the door are crackling and making horrible noises :( I've disconnected one, and the other one is going the same way. Does anyone know the size of the speakers in the Octavia? And is it a hard job to do?
  21. Coolant use could be a symptom of a cracked head. Mine had this before they replaced the engine.
  22. I think we should all pitch together and help our Northern Irish pal get a ferry ticket! I can imagine that would really bump up the costs for you :( Would be awesome to have you on board though!
