  1. Scraped the ice and snow off it....... again!! Left it running for a while for the car to do it for me but it didn't. Not warming up too quick with this cold weather.
  2. I tried him earlier and it wouldn't work, checked I could send one to you and that worked.
  3. A bit of Fuel System Icing Inhibitor (FSII) does the trick but not really necessary for modern Diesel fuels. We used to get tins of it to add to aviation fuel but that may not be the case anymore with all the health and safety.... not a nice chemical. If you can find a friendly airport worker (refueller) you may be able to get aviation fuel for free!! Can't say what it would do to your car though. I know a few guys that used to put a few litres of Jet A1 in their tank during the winter. As part of the aviation fuel quality checks they used to have to drain some fuel off the tank which was then classed as waste which then "fell" into their cars....
  4. Im not lucky enough to have a boot light both sides... Where you said you were going to fit them is where I should have put them. My explanation was pretty useless. I had to extend the supplied cable anyway to get the feed for the o/s strip from the n/s boot light so I could have put them anywhere, I just didn't think it through very well. I even know that LED's are pretty much directional and not a lot of light is emitted from the side of an LED but I was so keen to get them in and hidden away that I ignored myself. I was thinking of removing them and putting my new ones in the "right" place and using the original strips in the front footwells. Sounds like a bit of a messing around but my new ones are brighter so would be more suited to the boot. (they are brighter as they are standard LED bulbs rather than SMD type)
  5. I shall post some more pictures ASAP. I can't get in the boot yet as it is frozen solid. They are stuck to the inner lip of the plastic side bits that the rear speakers would be mounted to if I had any. This means they point to the wheel arch. I should have stuck them on the bottom part (90 degrees to where they are) so they point down onto the boot floor. ????Confused???? I shall try to get some photos to help explain. I fitted two strips, one either side of the boot.
  6. Mine is having the same problems at the moment but the coolant light has not come on. After putting a similar thread on here I got an interesting reply saying that all the Diesel cars at his work have been having the same symptoms yet the petrol ones are fine (I assumed they were not all Skodas if any at all). I have now put it down to the cold weather we are having at the moment. I was out for 2 hours yesterday and my guage never got above 1/4. If I stopped in traffic it just dropped back to the bottom. I will see what its like when it warms up a little. (My thermometer was showing -6 when I got home last night).
  7. My car is an Octy 1, accidently created this thread in the wrong forum but as it was a general question I thought I would leave it as it is. I assume the rear window you have is for a Fabia.
  8. It is a diesel, I think I will leave the stat for now then. Can't say I'm in the mood to change it in this weather anyway. We had quite a bit of snow here to. (Ipswich)
  9. I was wondering if there was any way of repairing the heated rear window. One of the lines has burnt out at the very edge. I saw it the other morning when clearing my car of snow as it was glowing bright orange in the corner and now it doesn't work at all. On inspection it's clear that it has burnt away and is no longer a complete circuit. I think another thermostat may be needed as I drove my car for 45 minutes yesterday and the guage only moved a small amount. As soon as I was stood in traffic it dropped to the bottom again.
  10. Voted no. 1998 1.9 AGR TDI 90 GLX. Currently on 164,700 miles.
  11. I have ordered some LED strips for just that same job. I will have a rummage around this weekend and see what I can find. There must be a conveniant place to tap into.
  12. Mine has a very annoying squeek from the drivers side arm. I know its that one because if I lift it off the screen, it stops. If i only lift it off a little bit, (1-2mm) it still squeeks. Got a feeling the joint is wearing out.
  13. Mine has similar problems, less the clocks going blank... Mine turns over fast enough when hot but doesn't like to start but when it's cold it turns over quite slowly and eventually fires. Mine has also had a new batttery and I have cleaned up the connectors to the starter and battery. Maybe it's because our cars are getting on a bit and are just not as lively as they used to be. Mine has 164,500 miles on the clock.
  14. I'd do the insurance way myself. Had mine crack when Autoglass were fixing the stone chips.... I'm sure the advert on telly says it will crack if I DONT get them repaired. Still, my excess was £60 which was much less than the £400 they charged my insurance. It does not affect your no claims if thats what you are worried about.
  15. When I first fitted them I did just solder the wire to the metal parts in the festoon holder and used a blown bulb to hold it all securely. I didn't like the idea very much though so I changed it. It's just a little neater than my soldering. I think I will use Philje idea in future though, very tidy. Happy to try out some of the suggestions comming in, I never think much about a job before I do it and generally do the first thing that comes into my head that seems like a good idea. I have already thought that I should have stuck the strips in a different place but where they are seemed such a good idea at the time, hidden from view and out the way. It's a shame they point in the opposite direction to where the light is needed though. Still, at that price, I can just get some more and do it again or add to the ones I've already fitted.
  16. My 1.9 diesel is just about run in at 143,600 miles. I can normally get 60-65 mpg on my drive to work but on a decent run I have achieved 71mpg. It was a very gentle drive down mainly A-roads i must add. If your not in a rush you can get the mpg. My dads PD110 can get 70mpg quite easily on long runs after a remap to suit his driving style. He has said that his town mpg has suffered due to the remap but not enough to worry about.
  17. I tried putting my original Skoda radio back in my car the other day which worked fine when it was taken out. Now the display doesn't display, the tape makes a very annoying whiring noise throught the speakers drowning out the music, (yes, it took a while to find a tape to play in it) and finally, the radio won't seek. All it has done for 4 years is sit on a shelf in a box and maybe it got used to the idea of not working and has given up it's previous life and re-trained to become a paper weight....
  18. I agree with Simbo, could be rear washer pipe. Happened on one of my old cars. Found that one out when I used my rear washer and my rear passanger complained about getting wet!! It was a Mk1 Fiesta so what did they expect...
  19. Also just found this strip on ebay from the same seller. 90 cm LED Flexible Light Strip 45 Bulbs White Car Lamp on eBay (end time 17-Dec-09 04:08:36 GMT) Same price for the item, but 50p more postage, however, you get 30 more LED's
  20. Pictures as requested. I will add that, if I had thought about the location for about 30 seconds instead of 10 seconds then maybe more light would end up in the boot, rather than the side of the car. Still, at that price I could add 4 more strips and have Blackpool Illuminations in my boot. I did consider getting some for the footwells that come on with the courtesy light...
  21. After getting a bit fed up of searching around my boot in the dark with what seemed to be the light of 1 candle glowing in the near side corner illuminating only a fraction of the vast boot the Mk1 Octy has, I decided to do something about it. Searching e-bay i found the perfect LED's at a very reasonable price. White 12V 30cm Flexible Car Auto 15-LED SMD Strip Light on eBay (end time 13-Dec-09 02:51:59 GMT) I will admit, the packaging left a lot to be desired and one of the strips arrived broken in three places but the seller refunded me in full. (I also used the strip anyway as all the LED's still worked and the seller didn't want me to return the item) That problem solved, I fitted them and they were a perfect fit and provide £1.48 worth of brilliant white light each. To fit them I basically spliced into the original wiring of the 'candle' and ran the wires under the boot carpeting for the LED strip on the drivers side. They come with a self adhesive backing making installation a doddle. I then removed the wick (bulb) from the original light and hey presto, a modern looking boot illumination. Typical for me though, I ended up doing it in the dark which may have made it a little more challenging but it was still very simple. The bonus being, apart from a little time, it cost £2.96!! (if you buy 2 strips. I only ended up paying for the one). I will post pictures if people want me to.
  22. I had the same thing with my sump and it was a Skoda dealer that did it. They still charged my dad for a new sump but after many arguments, based on its full dealer service history, they refunded him and gave compensation. A new sump wasn't as cheap as you would think. I will try to dig out the bill and let you know.
  23. Mine is currently sitting on 546 miles and the reserve light still aint on yet, must be close though! It is a 1.9 TDI 90 so just sips the fuel, don't need much to give just 90 BHP. Strange though as my trip computer is showing slightly less MPG than normal now I have just had a service.... Maybe the air filter was a little clogged up before so the ECU put less fuel in as it was getting less air.
  24. Did you make any decisions with the remote central locking? I still think its probably more economical to get an alarm system with a central locking module. Cheaper still would be to get the other half to walk out into the rain before you and open the car so you can just dash out and get in.
