  1. Hi I've always used chips away, they do a great colour match and the repair is seamless, they may not be the cheapest but they are all franchised and cannot afford to be slapdash. I always request a Friday pm slot, this is usually the end of their week so they just need some weekend cash....if you know what I mean. See what the local garages use, talk to the tech's personal recommendation is the best, hope this helps, and yes they come to you and can do the repair in most weathers.
  2. Hi i too had the same problem with my 2006105 pd, at 100000 miles I had the gearbox oil changed my god what a difference, well worth the £50 at the dealers although they didn't know why I wanted it done,as they said the oil is long life but 100000 miles is in my book along life....try this it is certainly much cheaper than a new clutch assembly.
  3. Definately go to an independant air con engineer, don't use the ebay / halfords route of diy, overcharging of the system is not a good idea, also the aircon should never be switched off as all the oring seals will dry out then the refrigerant leaks out all my cars since 96 have never had the aircon switched off.
  4. Hi I will probably be shot down in flames by more wisened people but a gentle driving style using the brakes conservatively will have the effect of polishing the discs this will glaze the pads, you probably suffer a little from brake fade when driving "hard" maybe. Although the gentle style is good for fuel economy it is not good for the pads etc, i was told by a very wisened old mechanic once that if this happens you should carry out the following proceedure on a clear dry straight road; 1. travelling in a straight line at legal speeds brake as hard as possible activating the abs is hard enough! but do not stop completely slow to about 10mph. 2. Repeat above once or twice more, there is no need to accelerate hard as you are trying to recondition your brakes not fry eggs! I have always used this method to recondition what feels like unresponsive brakes.
  5. Hi guys time to pick your brains again, I got a works bonus and for once i am gonna spend it on me and not the house or kids! I would really like to know what you guys think of this http://www.timelesslong.cn/Simplified/ProductView.asp?ID=364&SortID=74 would this still maintain the piccy of the front and rear parking sensors like a proper MFD2 would. Is the spec any good, I am not really an electrically or ICE minded guy, any advice positive or negative would be appreciated.
  6. Hi i agree that the scooby is awsome in the twisty bits but everyone knows that, it is good in a straight line too. I am Mr average joe who just needs to go from A to B but this does not mean that i don't like to have the occasional play though. I have an octy estate and for my money it is a far better looking beast than the hatch. If your new car is the right colour, race blue seems to look the best but white can look good too, get 18" rims on it, the look will be better. The vrs is a stealth car, not many people know that the octy has 200bhp, or 170 in diesel form (my choice). The diesel vrs will be a revalation try this one, even if you are a petrol fanatic just try the diesel, i tried one and was blown away but then i was made redundant so the new car wasn't ordered and i bought a 2006 105bhp elegance, not quite the same but that's all i could afford at the time. Your indecision is understandable, you are going from an iconic car to a more run of the mill car, but.......people who know cars rate the brand and there are always things that you can do to make the car your own... try looking at this site http://www.superskoda.com, for little money the looks that you worry about can be transformed. First things first get a test drive try both petrol and diesel then once you have tried it then you can decide, even try lower models after all all that will be different is the outright power and ultimate handling but a drive in a lower spec, say 1.8tsi or the 140bhp diesel will give you an idea, you may like the driving position you may not, if you cannot get comfortable then the car is out problem solved..... The other cars that have been previously mentioned are faster more "look at me nick me" the vxr is a good car but it is after all a vauxhall so pay £30k today and get what £10 in 2/3 years time....Pay £15500 for an octy now and in 3 years time it would be worth around £8k, there was 2006 petrol octy estate in Witney that was up for £9990 at the local dealers, you pays your money and take your chances. Try a skoda you will not be disappointed the space is staggering the reliability is second to none, JD power agrees. Hope this helps
  7. Looks like OEsunshades has gone under or just disappeared tried googling and their sever is non existant however looking on fleabay recently i saw some for £87.99 and the seller has 99.5% positive feedback from 2400+sales http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-Octavia-Estate-04-CAR-SUN-SHADES-BLINDS-TINT_W0QQitemZ310157206221QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4836cf62cd Hope this is what you want...I was going to buy some of these in the summer then the bloody recession took my job .....BUGGER.....now have to travel further for a lot less money but hey at least i got a job but little cash :-(
  8. Plastic trim is always a bit of a awkward one, my first octy was autoglymmed from new and the plastic was always lovely and black even after 3 years when i traded it for the Honda, by comparison a friends octy was not autoglymmed and the plastic trims faded within a few years, there are a few video's on you tube that show using a heatgun to restore the greying to black not sure if it works, but i have used this on light scuffing of exterioir plastic trim and it does mask the problem. hope this helps, my vote would be atoglym ASAP the cost is definately worth the end result.
  9. I agree with this although the hard breaking from 70 should not bring you to rest totally ideally to around 10mph, do this a couple of times and the brakes should be fine, this also cures the brake judder sometimes experienced. I am usually very light on my brakes but surprisingly the brakes on my Honda FR-V are a little lifeless and do not respond to this technique. It must be said though that these replacements are "motor factor" discs and have now lasted over 18k, with minimal wear or dust generated whereas the honda discs and pads were shot in 21k with black dust everywhere.
  10. Hi guys can someone please tell me where the alarm siren is located on a 2006 octavia elegance estate, damn thing just does not make a sound, only just noticed it after 6 months of ownership.....and vcds error shown. I would prefer not to give the scrotes an easy ride in my car.
  11. Hi i do not know how bad the damage is but a hot air gun can melt away small blemishes on the interior and exterior plastics, beware though too much heat and the panel / trim will distort, i have tried this on my octavia and have had success it does work and the "damage" is less visible but it will never be 100% perfect ....
  12. In this terrible weather I too have suffered with condensation and ice inside the car. I have followed all of the suggestions on this forum, my rear washer pipe had blown off so that was fixed still condensed. I changed the dry pollen filter still condensed, I checked the carpets they were all dry, out of desperation I even left a dehumidifier in the car overnight, no water collected and still codensated, I do not know if this was a good idea in hindsight!!. One thing i did do that worked, well it has for the last week, was to readjust the door catches, all catches were moved in by 1.5 to 2mm, doors are a little more difficult to close but no condensation so far. I hope this is of some use to someone.......FYI if you place a piece of masking tape by the outside and bottom edges of the catch you can effectively "measure" the movement and if you don't like it you can restore the original settings. I remember my old mini's where to seal the elements out you really had to slam the doors shut....ahh teenage years sooooo long ago.
  13. Hi i am in oxford and was wondering if any one wanted to exchange their VDCS and expertise for some amber nectar. I would like to activate the secord rear fog light, activate the hijack locking and also activate the coming home feature, on a 2006 1.9tdi (105)Octy elegance estate, i have also read that the climatronic flap can be silenced too via VDCS if anyone fancies a challenge one weekend PM me and we can arrage something. Cheers Guys the info gained from this site has helped me no end in getting things sorted on my Octy
