Diesels are noisey, but if you're doing lots of miles then they are worth the noise Keep it cmming in guys and gals Timelord

  8. I keep mine in a safe bolted to the ground in my bedroom, keep the keys, cash and ammo in there
  9. There is a lot of rougues out there, I had a fleet car into workshop (Not naming names here) now one of my many task's at work is to look after the fleet. (My branch only) anyhow I had a Saab 9-3 1.9TDi 150 go in for service approx 12k after I had it serviced last in that service I had brakes changed due to the fact they were down to the metal. Well i was then contacted and informed they needed brakes, I said no they don't and had a driver collect the car. Whenit returned to the yard I quizzed the driver he said that they were sharp as hell, and on inspection there was many a thousand miles on them. Suffice to say they have been reported to relevant people within the corporation. I can not see them having the contract renewed when the contract runs out...lol
  10. I would have slowed down and say 'You need some help??' the **** would have said 'Yes' or something to that effect and I would have said 'You better start praying mate you're gonna need it' Then drove off... lmao
  11. I do not have the usual morale constraints most people have

  16. 1.9 TDi come with drums on back, for the record the brakes are not bad on the fabia. Please not to this date I have driven 65 different cars mainly due to working for a hire company, mind you I am sure I have missed a few. for brakes i rate the fabia's mk2 7/10 a average for most cars to be honest there are a few that are 9/10 but they are so firece that they are ever so unpleasent on the long run. Usually make you jolt around making a unpleaasant ride. If anything like Jabbasport guy said you might be better off with just changing the pad's/disc/shoes material to a good grade material. Just a thought Timelord
  17. Hi Working for a hire company I can give you some guidelines but as with the others statements I reccomend talking to the dealer for anyspecial requirements 1. Return car with same amount of fuel that you take it, make sure it is noted before taking the hire, ensure you have a copy (Condition Sheet) 2. Ensure ALL exsisting damage is noted as well, (scuff's, dents, damage to alloys, any windscreen chips/cracks and so on) 3. Ensure Alloy Key is there and is noted, as company's will charge for loss of Alloy keys, £250 in some case's more (Not as simple as ordering a new key) 4. Ensure Handbook is there and is returned with car 5. Check tyre tread's and service/warning lights.... do not accept if there is a service light on, or poor tyres, most companies currently will not authorise tyre's being changed until it is 2mm or below, especially as the economic recession is still going. 6. Also ensure you know the damage liability amount as some companies chargea awfull amount of damage liability we charge £250 due to nature of hire's we do. Other charge £1,000 or more... ask about CDW (Collision damage waiver, you pay x amount per day to exempt you from the liabiity excess) 7. Return car CLEAN as most companies will charge you a Valet Charge (£50 - £100) Well I canna think of anythingelse to make you aware of, If I think of anyhing I will make another post Hope this helps Timelord
  18. The theory I have is with the wide torque band available that there is a minimal power conversion loss and therefore it will not make a large difference wether you rev it to 4,500 rpm or change at 2,500rpm as you have driven economically and got what it says on the tin, then this is encouraging information, I will be closely observing this engine over the next x amount of time Thank you for your response
  19. All Mazda's are 'Jerky' it is all down to the accelerator, youeith have nought response or 3,000 revs no good for pulling off, therefore 'Jerky' also through the gears :( I have a fleet of Mazda 3, 5 and 6's ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 engines they are all crap IMO.
  20. REV's @ 3rd = 30mph = 2,498rpm 4th = 30mph = 1,848rpm 4th = 40mph = 2,464rpm 5th = 50mph = 2,441rpm 5th = 60mph = 2,929rpm 5th = 70mph = 3,417rpm I recommend changing at 3,000rpm and you can easily get 43mpg if using mainly in town with some out of town driving. I took my paren car for a spin on 50 miles ofoutta town mainly dual carrige way running at 70mph andchange up at 3k revs and got 47.2mpg (Please not car only had 1,700 miles on clock) I hear reportsof 55mpg, I assume this is driving at 50mph every where... yawn!!! It take a little time to wind it up but whenit is there it can hold it own and if you need to slow down a little or overtake there is plenty of power to assist, it is a supprising little engine I would recommend to anyone who needs a town runabout with some long journeys... however if you aregonna sit on motorways for half the day (Metaphorically Speaking) then you need either the Greenline or the 80bhp 1.4Tdi or if you want a little more power then the 1.9TDi.... the Greenline has good gearing and can easily get 68 mpg on a long run (Heavy right footed that figure comes from) Hope this rant helps Timelord
  21. Hello All I am looking at a possible futurecar for myself as a Octy 1.4TSi engine, I was wondering if anyone here hasone and a general ball park figures when it comes to efficency I thank you in advance for any info you can supply Timelord
  22. got aload of these on fleet, very nice motor, I am jealous mate Timelord
  23. This is what mine was giving for the first 1000 miles I had it, until I standarised EVERYTHING that could be. As written in the first post. I did this religiously for the following 3,100miles which then gave me a stable +/- 0.5% varriation. This has now... not only changed my mind to believe Trip Comps are accurate, but now show's me the inaccuracy of the Brim 2 Brim Method, due to varriations in pumps and other varriations that are natural in fuel. I entered this test to discredit the trip computer through correct... I use this loosely "Scientific" methodology and report the amount that it was over optimistic. I also approach my studies with a open mind and recorded accurate data and come to a conclusion based on true facts optimising any varriables (Where Possible) and I have been supprised as I now believe that trip computers are accurate within a tollerance of +/- 0.5% and with the first 1,000miles (Obtaining a average of 6.2% over optimistic), have now shown me that Brim2Brim method is inaccurate unless you use the same pump, nozzle and filling station obviously which then the method will be accurate. Timelord The statement +/- 0.5% is the rolling data... my current average is 0.3% over Optimistic !!
  24. As it currently stands TRIP = 52.3mpg and BRIM2BRIM = 52.2mpg. The trip sometimes shows less mpg then the brim2brim method then other time the other way around which furthers my new belief trip comps are acurate Timelord
