  1. I used to get on average about 33mpg on a 23 mile A/B road commute, from my 4x4, which had vRS internals fitted. Pulled 3500 rpm at indicated 80mph whereas I gather the standard box would be on 4000 but given the bhp/torque mine was running, it worked well.

By all accounts, mpg was about 2mpg better but it's need to run 97RON or better, negated any saving really.

So, I too would also advise against it, given the gearbox rebuild / swap cost.

  2. Used mytires for the second time and have an order somewhere on a boat to the UK from Germany at the moment... Gone for Falken HS449 . My only issue with their service is DPD courier's, who they use, who tried to deliver my first order twice after 8pm to the tyre fitter, who, unsurprisingly, had gone home. This time I have asked for them to be delivered to home. Their customer service don't speak very good english, so email a better way to contact them if you have issues.

  3. I sold my modified 4x4 back in May, as expanding family, lots of miles and lack of time made keeping a modified car impractical. I have made back what I paid for it as had some bits left over. In my 20 months ownership, spent about £700 on mods and probably £2000 on parts and maintainance as intended keeping it longer. It was alot of fun, but having had a 3 year old Mazda now for nearly 6 months and not had to spend any money on it, I haven't looked back. Miss the Briskoda banter though....

It was just odd, stupid things that blotted it's copy book, notibly a fault which turned out to be a brake light switch, which kept it off the road for nearly a month.

I still miss the thing and occasionally think I should have exported to CZ and left it in the father in law's barn.

Sadly now most of the good bits off it are floating around on various parts of briskoda, notibly on a certain tuners estate, as it was broken up.

In summary, if a car is reliable, you enjoy it still and it's not costing you loads of money, then it's value is irrelevant.

  4. Well I had the Blue Haldex fitted today! Soon as I pulled away from the garage I could tell it was different! Hard to explain but just feel like you need less effort and the car seams to move smoother! It's strange but in a good way!.

Nice car and very well done. The Blue Haldex is a nice bit of kit to have on a 4x4. Your Haldex is from my old car I believe and certainly makes for very quick standstill get aways. Just be careful though as too much action will soon kill your clutch and the standard gearbox is a weak point...

  6. A standard 4x4 will make around 200-210 with a decent remap and anything upto around 240. However you will need to spend thousands to get it to the level of all round performance of 3 of the 4 cars you list and a vRS or Audi S3 is a better bet as most of the initial bits you will want are standard fit.

  7. I know you will all appreciate how much this hurts, but reality and growing children will have to come first.

With you here. Being 6' 7'' and child number 2 imminent, the Octy had to go. With me in it, no one could sit behind me unless I was real uncomfortable having the seat forward. That and diesel making more sense with the miles I am doing. My daughter still asks where Daddies old car is but she likes the new one more.

  8. [note - asked for post from buyer to be deleted by mods as felt he didn't need to explain his change in circumstances publicly]

Not sure what to say here so will just say Dave has been in contact and we have sorted this amicably. I am really sorry things have turned out this way for him.

So the car is up for sale again. PM me if interested. First £1800 secures.

I am well aware it's worth more in parts but I'd rather see it go to a Skoda enthusiast.

    Cheers
