  1. I believe there are a couple in the cabin & an external one for ambient temperature. As for exactly where they are & how they can be checked, I'm afraid that you'll need someone with more knowledge than I though I'm pretty sure that scanning the vehicle with Vag-Com/VCDS software would show up any faults with sensors. D
  2. In my experience of both pre & post FL-Octavias with & without Climatronic, the A/C is not the most efficient I've ever experienced & can take a while to get properly cold. Might it be a dodgy temperature sensor that's causing your woes..?
  3. Most likely dirt in the sensor - I've had it happen to mine a few times although the occasions on which it occurs can be pretty random. Even when the rear of the thing looks like it's been hosed down with the contents of a coal-miner's bathtub they'll function just fine, but the tiniest bit of grime in the right place on an otherwise spotless bumper can often be enough to trip the things out.. Like Mender says - a gentle clean & chances are normal service will be resumed.
  4. Apologies for the hijack but as a result of the 3rd world-spec road maintenance around our neck of the woods I have two buckled vRS wheels - 1 x 17" pre-facelift & 1 x 18" FL Neptune - & I was wondering just how badly bent out of shape they have to be before a wheel specialist will be unable to re-true them? I have been quoted £70 each by a reputable local agent - who admittedly haven't seen the wheels in the flesh/metal - but like I say, am interested to know just how badly squared-off they need to be before they're deemed beyond repair. By the way, and to steer back on topic a bit, the black chrome finish looks fantastic.. Many thanks & apologies again for butting in.. Dave.
  5. You should notice that the beam cut-off is quite a bit more defined & sharper and that the light thrown down the road is a bit less yellow but they're never going to be as good as the Xenon alternative as mentioned earlier. Might be worth checking that the beam alignment hasn't gone out following the removal/refitting process maybe..? D. PS, I'm presuming that your silver vRS isn't the sneaky one I occasionally encounter on the A3, often crewed by two of Hampshire's finest boys in blue..
  6. Have a hunt through the forums & you'll find that this is a very common problem. I've had it happen on my two previous Octavias - fortunately I managed to save the glass before it came off completely and smashed. I used carpet tape to stick mine back on - it's like a more heavy duty gaffer tape - and they never came loose again. There's a bit of a debate as to whether leaving the mirror heaters switched on hastens the loosening of the original sticky backing on the glass - some swear it's rubbish, others swear it's not. (most just swear because the bl**dy glass has fallen out) Anyway, I'd recommend the carpet tape, or failing that, the stuff that they stick number plates on with. Good luck.
  7. I'd second the opinion on the Philips bulbs - I used to use the Osram Nightbreakers & whilst the latest variety are a lot less prone to going 'bang' after a ridiculously short time they're nowhere near as long-lived as the Philips alternative. I'm still wary of fitting a HID kit at the moment - despite having taken on board all the well-informed opinion on these here forums (fora? for any Latin-scholars) so for what it's worth I'd concur that if you are still set on Halogens, the Philips bulbs are indeed probably about as good as you'll get, giving a good throw and a sharp cut-off. Hope this helps, D.
  8. Ta for that, my tetanus is up to date so far as I'm aware but I'll go carefully..
  9. Thanks for the replies - sorry, I should've mentioned that 'Aux in' is indeed enabled. I think I'm going to have to root around behind the ashtray (it's an extra lidded cubbyhole on my non-smoker version) for the loose end of the cable. Thanks again all D.
  10. Hello, After a bit of to-ing & fro-ing with the dealer (long story) I now finally have possession of my replacement Octavia & am back on the Devil's own fuel (Derv) as my mileage has increased. All lovely & enjoying the FL experience except that for some reason I cannot get any sound via the Jumbo box aux in connection to the Bolero head unit. I've tried 2 different sound sources - iPhone & Samsung as well as 2 different patch leads - both new & both working on other equipment. I've also tried every attenuation setting in the Bolero's menu but to no avail. Am I just being daft or is there a known problem, perhaps a loose connection at one end of the wiring from armrest to radio..? Thanks in advance, David.
  11. I have just put my mk2 pre-facelift mats in my facelift Octavia and can confirm that the front footwells in both cars are equipped with the same fittings for the mats. Unfortunately, I've mislaid the rears but off the top of my head, I don't think they had locators. Hope this helps, David.
  12. As above - has to be turned through 180 degrees from the usual position between the mirror setting position.
  13. Hello, All being well, I'll be picking up my '59 plate FL CR vRS this weekend & just wondered whether anyone had noticed any improvement in headlight performance (non-Xenon) from the pre-FL model to the facelifted item? I only ask as I have uprated bulbs in my current car - a 2006 vRS - and whilst I'm going to swap them out to put in the new one anyway, I was curious as to whether the new reflector design made much of a difference to the amount of light they throw out generally? From what I can see, the projector for the dipped beam is the same size as the original one so I'd imagine it doesn't really make much, if any, difference but I'm just curious.. Thanks in advance, D.
  14. Hello, I've got a persistent leak in my A/C system (Octavia 2 - pre F/L) which my regular garage say they can't diagnose as it needs to go to a specialist who'll do the nitrogen/UV dye test. Has anybody here used a decent auto A/C specialist in the SW Surrey/N Hants area who I might also be able to consult? Many thanks in advance, David.
  15. Cheers all, shall do a bit more research - apols for the slight thread hijack..
  16. Hmm, ta for that - I was led to believe that it was fit only for reincarnation as Coke cans so I'd definitely be interested in getting the opinion of an expert in these things..! Cheers
  17. Hello I had a 17" RS alloy - standard design (2006 mk 2, pre-FL) replaced the other day as it was bent by one of the many thousands of potholes around our way apparently. I doubt it's mend-able but would it be worth anything as scrap I wonder? Has anyone here ever taken an alloy to a scrappie..sorry, reclamation specialist & if so, how much did they give you?
  18. FWIW I pretty much exclusively put Shell V-Power unleaded in mine these days as it does seem to give the thing a bit more mid-range 'oomph'. The Tesco 99 RON stuff seemed to help a bit in terms of MPG (and was cheaper) but didn't seem to improve much, if at all, in perceived responsiveness. I'll probably stick with the V-Power for the time being as my local filling station is a Shell..
  19. Hello, It's a (broken) storage cubby/net thingy. There should be a metal bar which runs across the top which holds the netting in place. They are pretty vulnerable & not very robust & I'd be willing to hazard that a good 50% - if not more - of these in cars belonging to forum members are in a similar state. The one on my previous Octavia was already knackered when I got the car & the one in my current car is clinging to life but it's not in the best of nick..
  20. Looks like we're ok then - thanks for the replies, much appreciated..
  21. Cheers for that - most reassuring. I have, I must admit noticed other Octavias with a bright NS headlight at night so it must be a design thing..
  22. Have you checked the Earth connection? Years ago I had a major electrical malady (ok, it was Italian, but still worth checking) which turned out to be a broken earth strap. These can cause no end of weird faults & definitely worth ruling out if nothing else.. Other than that, I could only suggest a duff battery - I presume you've checked it for volts with a multi-meter? Sorry I can't help any more than that but I hope you get it fixed asap.
  23. Hello all, Just returned the headlight beam setting from the temporary flat(ish) setting after a night or two in France to UK dip-to-the-left spec & can't help but notice that the illumination on the LH/kerb side is a lot higher than I remember. Both 'flick-ups' for left & right headlights appear to be level, & the lights both move up & down according to the in-cabin adjuster. So far as I can tell the little gates inside the lamp units which you use to flatten the beam for Continental driving are back where they are meant to be (ie out of the way of the metal cutout pattern) so I can only assume that the lighting pattern has always been like this. I know that you get greater ilumination on the kerbside to show the road's edge, traffic signs etc but my lights really do seem to light up an awful lot more of roadside walls, verges etc than other cars on the road - in particular my wife's Peugeot 307 which also uses projector lamps (although to be fair, these are pretty cr*p). Anyway, have I done something daft when resetting the headlights to UK spec or are all Octavia headlights like this..? Thanks in advance, Dave.
  24. Just to add my thanks for the tip-off . Just ordered a pair myself, handy as the MOT's due in a couple of weeks and mine are getting a bit tired. Now to try & track down a cheap pair of the vast things that my missus' 307 uses..
