  1. Ah, big rims and rubber band/liqourice-thin rubber - 'tis the modern price we pay for aesthetics! Purely out of curiosity, have you noticed much of a change - for better or worse - in terms of handling, grip etc since you swapped? I'm hardcore and prepared to put up with the stiffer ride but it's great to hear you've found ride comfort Nirvana. D
  2. Thanks for sharing that - it's one to keep an eye out for, definitely. You have a quite a few more KMs on the clock than I do at present, but given I intend to keep my car for the foreseeable future, I can imagine that this may be something that will crop up at some point. All the best, Dave.
  3. Really sorry to hear about your dad's woes. I think that if you search for something like a 'Swing' or 'Bolero' (depending on how far you want to downgrade) on Ebay you should find something to fit the bill. Search for something like this: "Skoda Superb MK2 2008 - 2013 Stereo Radio CD Player Head Unit with Code" Just make sure that they have the relevant unlock codes with them so that they will work in your Dad's car. Alternatively of course, check out the for sale section here on the Briskoda forums - there'll usually be someone on here selling the sort of thing you're after. Best of luck. D
  4. Hi Andy, I may be wrong but I believe that the Skoda operation differs to that of the VW (oddly - given they are essentially the same electronics/mechanicals). I think I'm right in saying that in the VW, the green light comes on as soon as you flick the switch over from 'off' to 'on', whereas in all the Skodas I've owned with the cruise system installed, arming the system by flicking the switch doesn't turn on the green dash indicator, that only comes on when you press 'set' or 'resume' - ie, the green light is only on when the car's speed is being controlled by the cruise control. Apologies if I'm wrong but I seem to remember being confused by a mate's Passat displaying the green light even when he was changing gear manually, braking, accelerating etc. Cheers, Dave.
  5. Yes - I hear you on that one - there's nothing quite like it - the rear legroom is ridiculously generous and the boot is just brilliant too. There's so much to like and very little not to. I'm intending hanging onto mine for the foreseeable future (so long as I can still afford to fill the comically-shallow petrol tank ).
  6. Ah, this is a good point - I haven't Rain-X'd mine for a long time and that'd probably go a long way to helping things. Not a design fault but relevant - the dealer I bought mine from 2nd hand removed the original dealer sticker along with a couple of sections of the heated rear screen elements so it doesn't completely demist at the bottom. I've got a repair kit but haven't got around to sorting it as yet - perhaps a Rain-X/electrical paint sesh this weekend might not be a bad idea.
  7. Add to this the lack of a rear wiper on the Twindoor - a total PITA..
  8. Hi Dave, That's all very encouraging and good to hear. I'm almost 3 years into ownership of my example and am planning on holding onto it for the long term given its rarity and sleeper fun factor. Knowing that you've enjoyed yours as Skoda intended and that it's still going strong is really encouraging. Regarding the tuning package you have on the car, is that a Swiss dealer-fit thing? Was there any mechanical work required to liberate that extra amount of bhp? I've been looking around at the remap market in the name of a bit of research and it seems that to get a decent amount of extra oomph out of the naturally-aspirated engine a stage 2 with free-r-flowing intake/exhaust componentry is needed. Obviously, it's a lot less easy to get the quick gains possible with forced induction but I wondered what was included in your upgrade and how they achieved what is quite an impressive improvement? Thanks! (Another) Dave.
  9. Hello, This thread might be worth having a look at: I suspect that it could be that your vehicle doesn't have the bulb provision, hence why they aren't activating? Regards, Dave.
  10. Looking very nice indeed - congratulations!
  11. I had 3 Mk2 Octy hatchbacks before getting the Superb and the rear washer failed on all of them - it's a poor design and eventually the water ceases to be sprayed on the screen - instead, in my experience at least - it end up running down inside the rear tailgate and dripping out the bottom. This might well be the cause of the water accumulation you are experiencing. An obvious check would be to see if the water is foamy or smells (or tastes if you're brave/daft) of washer fluid. Good luck. D
  12. FWIW I did go ahead at the time with the electronic lobotomy on my previous car - 170 CR Octy vRS - and can't say I noticed any real difference. Tellingly though, my trusted independent VAG specialist who has looked after my cars for umpteen years did tell me that he had had a disproportionate number of EGR failures coming in on cars post-fix, and he put it down to them being over-worked by the re-map. Probably wise therefore to avoid if there are no other penalties or repercussions from doing so.. D
  13. Hello, Is this the recall you're referring to? If so, it's to fix a potential lighting issue on facelift Superbs with LED DRL/sidelights/indicators and involves a software update by the dealer. Cheers, Dave.
  14. Hello, might sound like a daft question but as someone who owned a string of Italian cars for many years I got used to checking connectors on an almost obsessive level when things weren't playing ball electrically. Have you/the garage checked/cleaned connectors on the ECU and associated componentry to eliminate those as potential failure points..? Good luck with it anyway - please keep us posted. Dave.
  15. Ha ha - a very good point. It’s down to personal preference I guess. Going on my most recent experience I’ll be checking whether my regular specialist can do recall work next time as I trust him far more than the main dealer I went to. 🙃
  16. Hello Alan, In theory, it's probably a good idea to get it done so that the car's records remain up to date but as always it pays to make sure that the dealer knows what they're doing. 😏
  17. Just back from having the recall work done. Got back in the car to find that the bulb failure light was on & Maxidot was telling me to check the rear right reversing light (when checked, both were functioning fine). Straight back into reception to point this out and the person from behind the desk came out to take a look. His first response was 'LED rear lights weren't standard on these were they?' After I'd pointed out that this was a facelift model and LED rear lights were standard he said he'd get a technician to have a look. Technician came back after 20 minutes to tell me it was fixed and when I asked what might have caused the problem I was told that the car must have just chosen that moment to throw an error..🤨 Given that the whole reason the car was in there was to have the lighting control module (and specifically error reporting from same) updated I have my doubts that the software update was completed correctly the first time, or at the very least any errors the update might have flagged certainly weren't cleared and checked before the car was handed back to me which is a bit sloppy. Given also that the car wasn't cleaned as promised, I'm not overly-impressed & it's only confirmed my desire to stick with my independent VAG specialist for any future work that doesn't absolutely have to be done by a dealer. If you are getting yours done, I'd keep an eye on the dash..
  18. Hi Andy - it might be a spec thing. I think that all Elegance & L&K FL cars had LEDs as standard. Not sure if it was an option for other trim levels? D
  19. Wouldn't hurt to ask them. I've just booked mine in to get the recall job sorted and was asked on the phone if there was anything else which needed doing whilst they had the car in the workshop.
  20. Got the same letter yesterday - out of interest, am I right in thinking that the vehicles subject to the recall are of the facelift variety and therefore more likely to have LED indicators, rather than pre-FL which use trad filaments?
  21. Trenchman - I’m truly sorry to hear that your health situation is less then ideal and I sincerely wish you every success with recovery from your recent transplant. Keep us posted on your new wheels and I’m sure it goes without saying that all of us here wish you the very best and will gladly give you every assistance possible in enjoying your new acquisition. 🙂
  22. Congratulations on your impending new purchase - I hope you’ll find that like the majority of us you’ll be deeply impressed with your new acquisition. 😊 It’s not a big tech feature but on a geekery level, it’s always worth checking that the umbrella is located in the end of the passenger side rear armrest - (nearside on UK/RHD models At least) as it’s a nice thing to have. If not, replacements are available but it’s nice to still have the original. 👍🏻 Re the Columbus head unit, probably worth makIng sure that the replacement is a) fully-functional (obviously) and b) that it’s coded to the car and working and you get the anti-theft code which should come with it. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/286611-columbus-code/ there are plenty others here far more equipped to give you pointers but these were a couple which sprung to mind. Good luck, and enjoy! cheers, D.
