  1. Good luck Andrew. I have a couple of battles myself right now BT Broadband speed halved and still the same after 2 1/2 months and 8 'engineers' Pothole damage to tyre and wheel in December and only now been passed to council solicitors.
  2. Off topic sorry, but did the winter grille cover make any difference to how quickly the car warmed up? I'm thinking of fitting a lower one as it would be easy to do on my Outdoor with strip of plastic.
  3. I agree with Ned. I couldn't bring myself to drop a wheel size or two for winter tyres as aesthetically they look awful on such a big car. Compared to an Audi the ride of the Superb is fantastic on 18" wheels.
  4. Sounds like a DSG issue. I have winter tyres on my manual 4x4 at the moment and although the same make have varying tread depths from 5mm to new at 9mm or more.
  5. The dealer wouldn't know you'd changed the oil yourself so the warranty would still be valid. I'd rather save £100+
  6. I have ours on variable but renew the oil myself in between services. Genuine oil is £27 off ebay or after dealer parts negotiation. Engine undertray removal tool is in the tool kit. 1/2 hour job saving lots of beer tokens.
  7. Most are typical boy racer but this one's smart. Would be better without the blue HIDs.
  8. Thanks. That's most likely then. It's never happened before and the car was driving normally prior to switch off. Idle speed no higher either.
  9. Drove home last night, switched off the engine and got out of the car. There was a hot smell and the radiator fans were running. I waited for a couple of miuntes and the fans were still on. I started the car again and the fans went off. Temperature gauge reading normal. It was 2 degrees centigrade and I've never heard the fans on even in the middle of summer. Stuck thermostat?
  10. I have a Spaceback with the glass roof. Is it possible to retrofit the sunglasses holder? If so can anyone tell me the part number?
  11. Thanks 'camelspyder'. Does anyone know the front toe measurement offhand?
  12. What should the front toe measurement be? Is a workshop manual available somewhere?
  13. How do you access the headlight dipped beam bulbs on a Spaceback 1.6 TD?
  14. Hi, we just picked up a used 2014 Rapid Spaceback 1.6 TD 105PS yesterday for my GF and when I drove it I thought the clutch bite point seemed a bit high. Is this normal? As the clutch wears does the bite point go lower or higher? Thanks Alec
  15. Have you had a black car before? They show up muck and parking dings better than any other colour. If you don't mind spending time keeping it clean they look great though. Go for Febi Bilstein drop links. The Subaru ones are very expensive and the original replacements I bought from my independent parts place were hopeless. It's a very easy job to replace these. Allen key and a spanner. The throttle body and MAF clean requires contact cleaner and a cotton bud for the MAF sensor. My alloys were bubbling around the centres which seems to be normal with these and expected on a car that age. My car had hardly any stone chipping on the bonnet at 92k miles. My mates Legacy looks like it has been sand blasted as he drives too close to the car in front. 'Only a fool breaks the 2 second rule'.
  16. Was that a 170 ps manual? My Outdoor is still surprising me with its abilities. I took mine over Cairn O'Mount yesterday, which is a challenging road up here, and was amazed at how it powered up the steep climb to the top. The Legacy was prone to power understeer like a FWD but in the Superb you can feel the back end pushing. You have to remember to work the torque rather than revving it too much though. It doesn't feel quick because the engine isn't thrashing but journey times compared to the Legacy prove that it is. What does your car need doing to it?
  17. I advertised on Gumtree and had lots of interest. I wouldn't waste my time advertising on the forum as they generally already have their Subarus. You could also try Pistonheads. I've never financed a car or anything else apart from the house. I just save up and buy outright.
  18. I'd sell the Legacy privately as no one was interested in mine as a PX. It was a 2005 with only 92k miles in atlantic blue and I was offered £2-2.5k as PX against cars around £20k. I sold it privately for £3500 and negotiated with hard cash. Have fun with the test drives. I drove a lot of cars before deciding on the Superb.
  19. Happy to help. This is a good site for pricing cars. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/private-valuation/lookup Yes the new Mazda is very economical. I wasn't overly impressed with the car on a test drive though. It's much wider than the Superb as well but doesn't feel as spacious on the inside. The Passat 4Motion was a great car. It was a W reg B5 2.8V6 estate. A real bargain at the time as a smaller A4 Quattro avant with the same running gear would have been £5k more. In hindsight I should have kept it instead of buying the Legacy. I might have bought a B6 3.2 4Motion but they're only available as autos. The Superb is a similar bargain as my Outdoor was £4-5k cheaper than the VW Alltrack and £7-8k cheaper than the A4 Allroad.
  20. Hi and welcome. I recently bought a 170PS diesel manual 4x4 Superb after owning a Legacy Spec B for 3 years and 40k miles. Unlike you I didn't enjoy the Subaru and was glad to get shot of it. The ONLY thing going for it was the handling. My commute is 12 miles and 25 minutes each way comprising mainly of country roads with a little town driving. With the Subaru I was averaging 26 mpg on the computer. The Superb is averaging 48 mpg on the computer which is a real 43 mpg. If you're 'heavy footed' though I'd expect the mpg of a Superb could be in the low 30's which is still 10 mpg better than the Legacy. The Superb corners very well with little roll and much better steering feel than the Legacy. It is softly sprung in comparison though and does not feel as responsive in the corners or take kindly to 'chucking'. Eibach springs with uprated dampers would sort that issue out though and still provide a better ride than the Legacy. I had this set up on my previous Passat 4motion. I prefer the fantastic ride of the Superb as standard though, even on 18" rims, and am happy to compromise a few seconds lost on tight corners compared to the Legacy. I may get mine chipped once it's out of warranty and like you was looking at the DTUK option. This would be for better overtaking urge as I do miss the Legacy's power for that. I couldn't go back to front wheel drive after 14 years of 4wd. Wheelspin in the wet, heavy tyre wear, understeer, no thanks. Having driven the latest Legacy diesel I wasn't impressed and after speaking at length with a very disgruntled owner I wouldn't consider one anyway. Isn't it the ugliest car on the road as well? Anyway, I hope this is useful to you and you'll at least test drive a Superb.
  21. Have you tried calculating 'real' mpg? Zero the trip when you fill up. Next time you fill up write down the mileage on your receipt before you re-zero. Divide the mileage by the amount of litres used to top up and multiply by 4.546 for mpg. The reason I say this is my cars computer is optimistic. A trip from Aberdeen to the Lakes and back at sub 'safety' camera activation speeds resulted in a displayed mpg of 48. Calculated mpg was 43. Still not bad for a car like mine but shows how optimistic the computer is.
  22. Some great deals on the Tour De France with prices from £20179. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/skoda/superb/postcode/ab510ye/radius/1500/keywords/4x4/maximum-mileage/up_to_40000_miles/transmission/manual/body-type/estate/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/saved-search-id/2c929631410cf395014111f776af0011 I have a pre FL Outdoor as I prefer the original design and wanted a manual with the 170PS engine.
  23. The only one I've seen before this one is a taxi in Aberdeen! There are a couple for sale but they are 140 DSG. I'm not a fan of all white cars as I think they look ex police but it's a great contrast with the plastic parts on the Outdoor. I was originally looking for a used 170 SE 4x4 but owners seem to hold on to them so they seldom come up for sale. Elegance are more popular but I'm not a fan of full leather and the Columbus seems to have some reliability issues. I do like the 18" alloys on the Superb though so the Outdoor ticks all the boxes for me. I considered the FL Outdoor or DdF but the plastic on the front is a bit heavy handed and the standard FL front looks the same as the Octavia and too similar to the Passat. I think it has lost it's distinctive looks.
