  1. Hi, I have the factory fitted tow bar electrics and dealer fitted towbar from new.. I've noticed that the electrics connector is 7 pin ( the book says it will be 13 pin don't know if this is relevant) Just had the first opportunity to hook up a trailer to the towbar and test. Whilst the lights all work o.k. I notice that when I put the car in reverse the parking sensors do not deactivate - there is a continuous beelp and the display shows one orange bar around the bumper and all the blue lines are shown too. Am I doing something wron here - I thought that the sensors where suppose to switch off when the electrics were connected, perhaps I am mistaken. Any views from fellow Yeti owners who tow? Many Thanks Graham
  2. I have just taken the Winter tyres off our Yeti and put the Summer tyres back on. The "other car" is a Renault Clio. During the Winter the nearside front wheel was destroyed by the car falling into a terrible pot hot (it was dark the hole was immediately around a corner and couldn't be seen/avoided). For a week or so I had 3 winter tyres on the car and one summer tyre. Then the snow came!! Driving uphil to my house in the Clio - with a Summer tyre on one side and a winter tyre on the other was a revelation in the grip you get with Winter tyres!!! The car was basically hauled up the hill by the Winter tyre! With the Yeti my need is not so much up hill grip ( the 4x4 sorts that out mostly ) but grip is needed going down hill. Even with the off road button - if your tyres don't grip the road - you ain't stoppin! So - for where I live in the hinterland of Aberdeenshire, Winter tyres are essential. Since I go from a mix of lots of snow to slush/tarmac and back again to snow on a 50-60 mile journey - winter tyres make more sense for me than Snow socks. Graham
  3. Swapped over the winters to original supplied Goodyear "Excellence" today. Did the job myself using the supplied jack. Found ablock of wood 1.25" thick was useful to give the jack a "prelift" rather than having to wind too much. Have put the small block of wood in the boot with the jack - in case it's needed for an unscheduled wheel swap. Torqued the wheel bolts to 120 NM as per Manual - but needed a scaffolding bar to get all 5 bolts off 3 of the wheels, the 4th I could undo - just - using my wheel brace . The winter tyres I took off were Nokia WRG2 17". I like these tyres for a number of reasons. One nice feature is the tread wear written into the tread - in addition to the minimum "bump" that is on all tyres. From this I could see the front tyres had worn away the 8mm marker, but 6mm still showing. The rears still were showing 8mm. Not to bad after nearly 5k miles I suppose. Winter wheels stacked away and will rotate the rear to the front when I come to fit them on. But at the moment I'm enjoying Spring rather than thinking about Winter ...even if I do still have a pile of snow in my garden! Graham
  4. Never ceases to amaze me how you can go an get tyres fitted and the fitters make a great show of using a torque wrench to tighten the wheel bolts ( after they've been done up with the air-gun, but if the air gun is over torqu-ing the bolts you would never know!), but they NEVER check the tyre pressures after fitting them on the car. These are the same guys that whilst you wait in the waiting room you can't help to notice the big signs that say "Check your Tyre pressures" or "Incorrect tyre pressures are unsafe" I once had 45 psi in the new front tyres put on my very first car - a Morris Marina ( Damask Red argh... ) I could hardly turn the steering wheel when I left the garage! Michelin do a nice tyre pressure gauge - that fits in the hand nicely - easy to use etc. I keep it in the car next to the foot pump and spare wheel. Graham
  5. Foo're ye deein Scunjee? Sorry to hear of the Monster Munch moment. Deer all over where I live - consequence of all the snow and them coming further down from the hills I think. It does make driving really hazardous and nothing you can do when they appear in the road for sure. Picture looks like it's beauty rather than structural damage - so hopefully the garage can get the bits back on quickly. Graham
  6. Hi Mike, no I wasn't tempted to just clear a hole in the windscreen and drive off down the road.! I did get a bit worried about how much snow the yeti roof could take before buckling....so I set about getting the snow off the roof/bonnet to let the Yeti be seen again....as you can see here: It's a Yeti - but even though I could see the car ....... this was the view of the road ahead .... The road So nothing doing until the Snow Plough arrived... Maybe that should/could be an optional extra for the Yeti.....??? Graham
  7. Hi Elcano, here's another look at the YETI - this time in last weeks snow. Yes it really is there!! I think the Fiat Uno would have been completely buried in it! My link Graham
  8. Hi Mike, potholes - yes there too many right now aren't there! - yes it's dealing with them fine, there are some large ones near where I live - the repairs keep being washed away by the snow melt, and the car is o.k. going over them. Clearly the really big ones are to be avoided unless you are driving something more akin to a Tank than the Yeti! rgds Graham
  9. The YETI look in "Spring time" - this was taken on 1st april - I wish it were an April fool but it wasn't...... 16 inches of snow and the electricity off for 48 hrs. :( My link Who said it's time to switch to Summer tyres?? Graham
  10. Yes that happens to me too - it's a good test of how well you clean/polish the car. I.e. the car looks great then you open the boot and oh - there's all the mud/muck/dust/dirt again!!!. My only thought was whether a winglet on the top of the boot roof extending an inch or two might move the airflow back enough to reduce the amount of dirty air that gets sucked onto the boot. then again ....aerodynamics is not my strong point. :'( Graham
  11. Hi, the back of the Yeti gets covered with spray - with or without mudflaps. Can't say I could really see any difference. The dirt is not an issue, rear screen wiper works well, till you come to open/close the boot!! Graham
  12. Hi, Mine took 7 days from arriving in the UK to be ready at the Dealer for collection. So I would say 7 to 14 days something like that. I guess is depends how quickly the Delaer can get the car ready - both the physical vehicle aspects and all the paperwork. rgds Graham
  13. HI, on mine the removable hitch/hook is stowed on the right of the spare - in the polystyrene box next to the jack etc. That's where I found it on delivery so I didn't even look to see if it would go in the wheel well with the spare! Graham
  14. Don’t forget that other people’s opinions are just that. Other people’s opinions. Some of these opinions brought you ‘Cars of the Year’ like the Talbot Horizon, Talbot Alpine Fiat Bravo! (perhaps the Fiat wasn’t such a bad car) I do agree that whatever peoples views are they should be respected and not moderated out ( assuming they are polite etc) but I think the general point was/is that there is a difference in a review based on someone who has had the car for many months and many miles versus someone who has just had a 1hr or so test drive. Whilst both are valid - they do have a different context. Maybe there should be a "first impressions" review and an "owners review" and this way both groups could be catered for.
  15. HI, Don't know if this helps at all... My link Still on the 17" Winters where I live - and will be till Easter time at least I think! rgds Graham
  16. Hi TP, Thanks for the News !! A duff batch seems the most probable - hopefully they've fitted a good one now! Wonder how many others are out there with the same issue - hopefully not many!! rgds Graham
  17. Hi TP, havent used the Bolero much yet in our Monster, but here are just some of my thoughts on Manual Tuning Mode and static you are getting. Would seem to me that the Radio can't pick up the station, but what would make this intermittent....???.either the radio is at fault, or the antenna/antenna connection - or something else is interfering with the signal - like when you go into a tunnel, or a very powerful radio signal is swamping the bolero. Interesting that the CD packed up after a while too. Could this be a "heat" type fault- i.e. when on long enough?? So I was wondering "when" does this fault occur from cold, or after a while, do you have a nice cosy cabin? Could it be heat/cold related. Is it just a poor conection - did the garage unplug anything trying to fix your Dashboard rattles and then not seat the cables back correctly afterward???? Is it a movement thing, i.e does the radio loose station if you are stationary or only on the move???? Hope some/any of these musings help in some way. Graham
  18. Hi For the Yeti I paid a deposit via credit card - which seem fair since the car needed to be orderd. I then paid in full via Debit card the day before picking up the car ( the transaction was timed at 17:00 on the day before). This was agreed at the time of ordering and verified a few days before picking up the car. A few years earlier I bought a Renualt Clio and just used my debit card on the day. For the Yeti the deal was through a dealer - and I think there is some financial step here that makes them take the money "up front" prior to obtaining the car, whereas from a pure retail point of view - you could walk into any show room and use your debit card straight away. Graham
  19. Hi TP, yes they replaced the whole pump - the guy at the desk didn't know the specifics, it being Saturday - this particular garage has no servicing done on the weekends, so there was no one to ask other the Salesman - and his coment was - "Oh do I need to take money off you - ah - no I see it's warranty - o.k. then here is your key - cheerio!". As a result I'll be taking Scunjee's advice earlier in this thread next time the monster needs some TLC. Good news is the Salesman gave us a nice shiny "Customer Survey" form to fill in. So I can give the "gift of feedback" graham
  20. Final update. rescued the Yeti from the garag at last today. Car was ready onThursday but with 3ft of snow outside my house it wasn't possible to get to the garage and collect. Done 50 or so miles and coolant is still there - so hopefuly thats the last of this little saga. Had the Clio 1.2 going sideways a few times in the snow ( drifting snow) trying to get home - with SWMBO following behind in the YETI. SWMBO reported the YETI was fine... can't say the experience in the Clio was anything I'd like to repeat! graham
  21. A few years ago I picked up a hire car from Schipol Airport and drove at night toward Amersfoort to meet up with friends. On a small single carriageway road I was flagged down as I approached several Police vehicles. I wound down the window and the policeman started talking to me in Dutch. After a few "I don't speak Dutch" - English??? etc, He then pointed at me to pull into a side road. Fearing a fine etc, I pulled in and another policeman jestered to me to open the bonnet which I duly did. I was now expecting the full vehicle check over, chasis, tyres, registration etc etc...... But a few minutes later the bonnet was dropped down, and the policeman appeared with scrwdriver in hand and politely told me he had adjusted the headlights - the beam was set too high and he lowered it - and I could now proceed on my way. I told this story to my friends when I joined up with them a little later. They were amazed at this "Customer service" from the Dutch police. Headlight adjusting free of charge is something they - and I - hadn't heard of before. Graham
  22. Aye t'was a case of "any port in a storm" .... aka...SWMBO in the City, worried that watever was leaking would run dry - and put Yeti into the nearest - only - Skoda Garage. Can't grumble really about that. Will certainly keep your suggestion in mind if I ever get to drive the car again. Thanks and looks like we've plenty more snow yet.... Graham
  23. Further evidence that our Yeti is snow shy. Return of heavy snow today. Get call from garage today - they say they ordered the wrong Water Pump - need to order another one. Will be a day or two longer. :'( Royally Miff'ed by that - but what can I do??? So that Car has been in garge now for 10 days and still nowhere near getting it back ont he road. Further Snow forecast for Thursday, Friday and Sunday ....... I wonder when I get to drive the car again?? Graham Sometime member of the SMOC
  24. Hi, This link gives you some idea of how it works - in theory. Original order was for the standard the Tyre Weld type stuff and Compressor. I then changed my order to a spare wheel. For me, I felt the Tyre Weld type stuff would be o.k. for an around town type puncture - i.e. travelling a short distance to a safe haven - but I live further out in the Countryside and I felt the security of a spare wheel in the boot was greater than that of a can of Tyre weld in my case. Graham
  25. Hi, for me the oil temp is on the maxidot. I access it by using the thumb (finger?) scrolling button on the right hand stalk. Scroll/flick this round and you get outsde temp and keep going and you get MPG, average MPG and some others I can't recall, eventually you get to Oil Temp. When the car is cold the oil temp is shown as - - - -, as the car warms the temp comes on. I found mine vairies between 95-98 and up to 110C (maximum I've observed) depending on load/speed. Graham
