  1. My octy has xenon projector headlights factory fitted . Driving/Fog lights halogen projector positioned outboard of the Xenons. High beam/flash are halogens positioned inboard above the sidelights. I don't understand how bi-xenon can work. As soon as you flash a xenon it won't have had time to trigger on (and with that high voltage circuitry, probably wouldn't last long either) Stef
  2. Could someone update me on whether this is happening, or not? also confirm date, place & time. many thanks Stef
  3. I fancied upgrading the symphony set in my Octy Mk1 VRS to a Sat nav unit. Having read a few threads on here, and elsewhere, I have acquired a VW MFD from a Golf mk IV. It is the "G" version which I understood to be the slightly better version than the "D". So what I need to know is where do I go from here as I have not had the symphony unit out yet. 1)Will the multiway plugs just plug in? do I need adaptors? I have no problems with wiring rewiring but info on these seems a bit sparse. Vwnavi.com seems quite a helpful site. 2)Also Is there a combined roof aerial / gps aerial I could use instead of putting the GPS aerial under the dash? 3)Do you have to use original vw discs or will "backup" DVDs work? Many thanks Stef
  4. Call mine the "Green Willy" Name acquired from the Omega forum when someone posted ""nice car but why the "green Willy"?"" Hence the signature at the bottom and the name just stuck.
  5. Thanks for the quick reply. My hesitation is that on Omegas' The idler/tensioner pulleys fail, which is why the service interval was dropped from 80K to 40k. When I did my cambelt, the Gates kit came with all pulleys and tensioners. Water pump replaced as worth doing for the little extra cost and time involved. So if the Cambelt tensioner wasn't done I take it that this is normal practice, then maybe I dont need to overly worry. ( I prefer preventative maintenance as opposed to reactive maintenance i.e. waiting until something fails.) But I hate the thought of valves and pistons colliding as that would make rather a mess. Stef
  6. I have a service sheet showing cambelt replaced on my vRS by Skoda at 59K. Car now on 72K. Having had my Vauxhall Omega it was routine to replace cambelt, all idlers and water pump every 40K I have contacted the dealer and they confirmed the Cambelt replacemnt was a kit and the idlers were replaced. Kit is billed at about £77 before fitting and sundry charges so does sound about right. Now as they haven't done the water pump, how bad is it if it fails? Does it take the Cambelt with it? or is it just the impeller blades that disintigrate. Many thanks again Stef
  7. Hi notice you are local to me. I have just started using tesco 99 from Mereway tesco maybe me but car flew yesterday. You using there or tesco weston favell?
  8. my first question on here as an oldbie Superb owner and newbie Octy owner. When starting the car, the engine sounds almost similar to my old Tdi for about 2 seconds until it fires up then all is normal. Oil pressure fine, light goes out immediately, car drives fine no obvious faults, apart from temp sensor needs doing (temp gauge has a mind of it''s own). Having not heard another vRS starting dont know if its normal? Thanks Stef
  9. Just come across this thread, as a lover of Hi-fi equipment. pix of not so much old equipment in the home, but my Vauxhall omega (now replaced buy the Octy vRS) Rogers Cadet II Valve Power amplifier from circa 1965. bolted through parcel shelf for safety. powered off 240V inverter triggered via relay from head unit feed. Fitted blue leds under valve bases, approx 8-10W rms per channel but as those in the know will be aware, louder than most 100W plus car power amps.
  10. Came across these on ebay today. but only 18"? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/18-LAMBO-STYLE-ALLOY-WHEELS-ONLY-SKODA-OCTAVIA-/130428005718?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item1e5e1d6d56 stef
  11. I want to fit an armrest as well. However does this not block/cover the lighter and cupholder? many thanks Stef
  12. It was the stickers that sold it! When I had my Superb in 2003 it was a vRS or Superb, and went with the Superb as the Vrs was due a new model. 2006 drove the mk2 vRS and felt it was crap compared to the mk1 (I'll duck now!) I now only need to do limited mileage, and intend to keep it as originally supplied,. any mods I do will be reversible, eg stereo, poss wrc rear spoiler (providing it can utilise the existing holes.) Only other car I can think of that was stickered like this was the Carlos Sainz Toyota Celica GT4 in the early nineties. I think the price I paid should remain confidential to protect the seller. However I did pay less that the advertised price, and while I am normally a tightar5e when it comes to buying cars, I feel I paid a reasonable price for a fairly unique car. I had carefully assessed 2002 vrsesses to get a comparison and majority are in the 3500-4k bracket at similar miles. Note I would guess the trade in at Ford would have been circa 2-2.5K . so the seller made a profit off me, thats how the world goes round... Stef
  13. Hi 'twas me. Been up to Cheshire this morning to do the dirty. Must recommend the seller as 1st rate. Let Mike know nr.84 is alive and well in Northampton, and does he still have the cd and radio codes! ;o) Stef
  14. Hi! Add me as the owner of No:84. Just driven back from cheshire and well impressed. thanx Stef
  15. Just came across this on Youtube. The video depicts this car as no. 84/100 yet it has a different registration to the one on ebay? any comments? or is the video made using different pictures off the internet?
  16. Thank for replying. MPG and tax not an issue. prefer V6's having had the unrefined 130tdi lump. Repairs are not a major problem, eg water ingress etc. My main concern was whether this is likely to be a major box fault eg £2k or a service/low fluid issue? which needs to be reflected in the bid I put in. Otherwise I 'm back on a late Omega or something else. Just miss my old Superb.
  17. Hi Not been here a while but maybe looking for a cheapish Auto Superb 2.8 elegance. Came acroos this on evilbay tonite. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2002-SKODA-SUPERB-ELEGANCE-V6-BLUE-/270612928416?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f01c997a0 Spec/color is spot on. But Limp mode on the gearbox? Is this new box? or oil change? or what? any advice appreciated. Stef
  18. Been off here a while due to expected company car Superb II not materialising due to choice being 1.8 S trim with DSG or 1.8 SE with manual. Really wanted SE 1.8 DSG. Anyhow bought an old favorite, a 99 T Vauxhall Omega 2.5V6 Auto petrol with toys. So happy to have a nice engine again and the autobox. Now I am stuck between getting a late 3.2 V6 Omega or early V6 Superb. I dont have an issue with MPG, so an early 2.8 V6 Auto Superb mk1 Elegance appeals. I can wait as no rush to change. Note had a superb 130Tdi originally and dont want again due to engine NVH. Previous threads lead me to believe the 2.5V6 TDI may not be the most reliable engine in the world, although always had respect for what was a smooth and quite appealing sounding engine. What I would like to know are what issues are there with the VAG Petrol 2.8V6 with highish miles 90k or more? I have done the cambelt on the Omega so not scared to do the same on a Superb.
  19. I do have an allowance up to to £480 for extras so just about covers metallic and cruise control. My concern with the S trim is how crappy it really is having not seen one for real, or the pictures. I can just about live with 16" rims. (Or pay extra for 17") I don't think the 105 tdi would be good enough as my previous car to the last one, was Superb 130tdi Comfort.
  20. I have a little problem, and need some advice. I have received our Company car list. I am due to change in May 09. I asked for a Superb SE 1.8 DSG metallic and promptly got told I can't have it coz it ain't on the list. :( Note that I had been able to pay extra for what I required in the past with the same leasing company. So not impressed... However on the list are three Superbs. I can't decide, if I go Superb, which one to go for? they are: 1) Superb S 2.0 140tdi DSG 2) Superb S 1.8 DSG 3) Superb SE 1.9 105tdi manual. Ideally I wanted auto this time, and had actually decided on the new T*y*ta Avensis TR 1.8Auto. which compares well with the Superb but at £1.5k less. To be told it ain't the list... So I have virtually discounted the 140tdi. But cant really decide whether to go ease of driving with 1.8 DSG, or nice bits to play with and put up with the manual box and 105BHP. So, any advice on this dilemma????
  21. One Answer - Coz it's "Butt-Ugly" :P Steffi
  22. I think thats improved the appearance of the Superb 100% :P
  23. Coming back from Coventry on the M1 today, I approached a car on inside lane doing about 60mph. At first I thought Megane saloon, but as I got nearer I realized it was a Superb. Steel gray (near watford gap southbound) Now having had an old Superb and wanting the new one, I have been looking at this since before launch. However while I was convincing myself that I was comfortable in the appearance, I was unsure. Interior is gorgeous. Now seeing one on the road from behind and side view as I cruised pass slowly, I have to admit that this is just one Butt-Ugly car. I just couldn't live with a car that looks that bad. Sorry if I offend, but I cannot fool myself anymore. So off to car land to look at alternatives... Steffi
