  1. I can understand the varying load bit but not the speed. It's not like the pistons move further at higher speeds. Sorry if I'm being a thicky but why does the speed matter?
  2. Nothing wrong with your English I think from your description your 3 cars have the exact same fault as mine - I too can hit resume and it goes back up to speed. It's like you pressed the brake, only you didn't! Mine's going into the dealer next Thursday (20th). When I spoke to them they said they were not aware of the issue but would first look for ECU fault codes and if that doesn't find anything they will order a complete CC module and replace it. I'll let you know what happens.
  3. I'm going to take it to the dealer. There was no apparent reason why it should cancel on a long steady cruise so it must be something erroneous causing it to happen. If it was a well known problem then it would be easier for them to find rather that taking a 'poke and hope' approach. There may well be something logged in the ECU so we can start there I guess.
  4. The conditions were good and there was no reason on any occasion for ESC to cut in as I was cruising mainly at 90, 110 or 130KMH on perfectly good roads. No front assist on my car, but even if it had been fitted there was nothing in the way to set it off.
  5. Yeah I saw that too. No front assist, it happened mainly on French Autororoutes, dry and still conditions, about 10 - 12 degrees C, flat smooth surface and minimal traffic around and between 50 and 85MPH. There was nothing obvious to cause it.
  6. Did it completely switch off or just cancel (as if you'd hit the brake)? Mine starts working again as soon as I hit the resume button and goes back to the speed setting it was at before it cancelled.
  7. Interesting. I would be interested you hear if it happens again. On mine it can be 2 minutes or 2 hours. There's no obvious pattern to it or reason why it does it. Mine's vRS TDI with DSG by the way. What's yours?
  8. Nope. No-one? Looks like I'm special then
  9. Very odd. Is it all channels or just FM or DAB? Maybe weak signal taken below a threshold when you fire up the rear screen heater ?????
  10. Odd one. Just got back from a long trip to the Pyrenees (1600 miles round trip) so was pleased to have the cruise control (standard version, not ACC) for the first 2 hours or so..... and then it cancelled itself. I thought maybe I'd accidentally touched the brake pedal as the white CC light was still on but the green 'active' light was not lit. After another hour or so it happened again about 4 times within a few minutes, then it was fine again for the next 3 - 4 hours until we were closing in on Toulouse where it happened several more times. On the way back via Bordeaux where we had a clear 120 miles of open road it did it twice more then again as we approached Nantes for an overnight stop. The following day on the way up to St Malo it was fine apart from a 5 minute period heading towards Rennes when it happened twice. Each time it happened I am sure my feet were nowhere near the brake so it wasn't that and the road was smooth so it wasn't a bump that caused it. I will be taking it into the dealer but I suspect they will struggle to find the problem on a small island with a 35mph limit and no roads longer than 3 miles without having to stop. So my question is 'has anyone else had this problem and had it solved?'
  11. I tried to change order, was told sorry too late, then dealer called to say there was a build delay of about 4 weeks so order could be changed after all. The delay was previous to the change so no additional delay.
  12. Update. I have to admit when people suggested that the Canton sound system needed "running in" I was, to say the least, very sceptical. Well, 3 weeks in and indeed the subwoofer is banging away like a good 'un and the sound is now much better overall. I have never known an electronic component needing time to settle it. It's just not logical but it's actually true. :wonder: . I'd never have believed it if I hadn't experienced it myself. Regarding the other teething issues - all have sorted themselves out with the exception of the right headlamp washer (still sticks) and the rearview mirror which doesn't appear to autodip. Dealer is aware and I'll book it in when I get back from skiing. Overall, the Octy is great and I'mm well chuffed with it.
  13. Ah I see. Sorry I thought he had it but was asking how to switch it on.
  14. Set headlight switch to Auto and set the beam to High. It should sort itself. I haven't tried mine yet though.
  15. PMSL. I do remember watching that one and thinking "that bloke runs fast for his size"
  16. I can't see how to edit my post to add piccies so posting again....winter wheels and tyres fitted yesterday ready for skiing trip next weekend.....
  17. Easy one to argue both ways... Accurate gauge and you will risk running out when it hits the bottom. Not good, but at least you know what the score is so can plan accordingly. Inaccurate fuel gauge and you fill up before you need to (OK in normal life on roads you know but not so good on a long trip when you are not sure where the next garage will be / will it be open / will I get there?) meaning a 7 litre reserve is, in effect, a useful tank capacity of 43 litres (9 1/2 gallons for those of us who still speak English). More old fashioned advice....keep a gallon can in the boot, just in case
  18. "Real" exhausts rather than the fake outlets on the MkIII.
  19. Sadly not much better. Mine looked filthy after 1 day. To be fair the weather could be better so that hasn't helped. Silver seems to be the only colour that has any hope of not looking dirty 2 minutes after you finish cleaning it. Is that a roof aerial I see there? Mine's built into the glass. What's that for?
  20. Race blue vRS estate with the black grill and mirrors etc. Might have to get the wheels Kev'd up now to match.
  21. I think the braking thing is more so you don't inadvertently not notice the car in front and plough straight into the back of it. Only on AAC though. Needless to say, I spent £150 on CC rather than the fooked-if-I-can-remember-how-much on the ACC option seeing as I don't plan to ram anyone due to being a complete knob-head who doesn't look where he's going .
  22. I wanted electric folding mirrors as per the Elegance model, and electric adjustable memory seats. I did get the heated screen, but not sure if that's a blessing or not especially driving into the sun (rare I know) in the morning and again going home as the elements shine rainbow-like in your line of sight.
  23. I too was looking at VWs and never even considered Skoda as a marque. This was back in 2007 when I needed to get myself a more sensible car (having had a few years of lunacy driving TVRs, Nobles, Subarus and the like). Anyway I went to the local VW stealer and there on the forecourt was a 2004 Fabia VRS. I thought it was worth a test drive so out I went for 30 minutes or so. I was totally blown away by the damn thing. I didn't buy that actual car (was a close call) because I thought I'd find out the price of a new one at the local dealer. It wasn't much more than the 3 YO one I'd just driven so I ordered a new one on the spot. Best car I've ever owned. Last week I picked up my Octavia III which I needed due to lack of space in the Fabia. If it wasn't for a growing family I think I would have stuck with the Fabia until it fell apart. So to answer the question - it took about as long to lose my badge-snobbery as it took that little Fabia to launch itself off down the road like a bat out of hell (about 5 seconds). Dealer is great and the cars are excellent value.
  24. Might as well try - what's the worst they can say!!
