Hi all, having a little clearout of anything still good to someone else. Dead Red Redemption - used litrally once - zero scratches. Map/Panflet - PS3 - £20 posted Samsung Tocco Ultra - Used case (couple of quid on ebay), can do loads with this phone - just got an upgrade! - £60 Posted (charger inc + 1GB mini card). Photos on request!!

From what i read, it shouldnt take that long really. Front left wheel off, arch liner out. off with three holding nuts that surround the pump and then off with the lines (after draining the pump somehow) and electrical connectors. reverse to put back on plus go lock to lock with wheels in the air to bleed rack and teach the pump the end stop lengths..

P.S a fault code reading would help you a lot, look on the VCDS/VAGCOM map on this forum to find someone local to you who can do fault readings. THIS IS THE THREAD FOR THE NO BATTERY LIGHT SHOWING no battery light on ignition

well, not that its the best thing to do but as a temorary solution (if abs light comes up while brakes juddering) - unclip one of the abs sensors. this will keep it from cutting in (you describe the problem as abs cutting in when its not needed). else, it could be warped brake discs from the pads dragging on the disc and heating it up. if they are good discs, have them skimmed, else buy a new set with pads. ESP, if you do a little search youl find there is a clip that pulls away from its wires. (diagnosed as, when you turn on the ignition your not seeing a battery light come up). or linkey poos, power wash your axles in case there is gritting in the castle rings. Nick

Ignition on x 2..!! Check the vagcom map, might be someone local to you who will do it a hell of a lot cheaper/free than a garage!

NOOO you dont use brute force! theres a little latch type hanger in the middle of the upper roof of that compartment door. use brute force first time but dont keep yanking it open when you find out what im on about, just push the holding tab upwards (away from floor) and it will swing open to reveal its goods.

Hi all, Was wondering if anyone has a guide to changing the power steering pump? Also, if anyone has done the swap, how long does it take? Any tips appreciated! Nick

Got this aswell! Rear calipers need stripping down and greasing up, but need the proper winding back tool for the handbrake mechanism

Funnily enough, i just looked at this problem on my sisters beetle pd 1.9tdi. If you leave it at idle, and switch certain things on, you will find a reasonant load at which the noise is loudest, after that it will go away (at more battery load, ie everything on) or after revs. Turn everything electrical off and start to switch on some electrics, ie lights on, then try full beam, then creep the interior fan speed up, so that it JUST about begins to make the noise, and i bet if you (being very carefull, as in I do not in any way suggest you do this) stick something against the top of the tensioner (big square edge on the top which can be used to press against - I used one side of a rubber handles-set of pliers) the noise will die down. Told her to get a new spring tensioner as hers is so bad the battery light is being intermitant so must be letting the ribbed belt slip :S Nick

Ok so I read at various sources that if you unplug the angle sensor, the power steering goes to default backup mode and will run at least to a certain degree.. I did this and nothing happened, so can I presume that the pump is dead? The sensor thats in the steering colum is the metal type (updated..) so that maybe suggests its already been changed? and that the pump is the cause? Many thanks.. Nick

Yeah it mentions check sensor, but its not really explicit as it leaves it open to being the pump... Anyone else? I was thinking, there is a listing on ebay for LHD sensors, I could add a length of wireinbetween to make it long enough to run to the RHS of the car - anyone else done this~? EDIT: Also, where would i get a pump from, main dealer is around 130 apparantly, so is there a patent part suppler? What part number woud I be looking for?
