  1. Thanks for all the reply,s but its the ticking over with oil cap off then stalling with back on that could also imply so many other 'engine block' problems that bothers me. Did the turbo problems you had exhibit this same problem? thanks, chris
  2. thats the sort of noise ours makes now whilst turning over, but failing to start
  3. thanks for reply matt, i think the turbo gave a bit more of a screech than normal when pulling away but nothing too bad and certainly no bang and no smoke ??? chris
  4. evening all, pulling away from lights this afternoon at about 3000 rpm the engine cut out and wouldnt start again. Literally like someone pulling a plug. Got recovered back to home address and green flag guy had a quick look over. Basically it will start with a struggle but only with oil filler cap off and then it ticks over fine but pressing accellerator pedal doesnt give any real increase in revs, and when you put oil cap back on engine stalls....................... Anybody any ideas? Speaking to my other half this afternoon she tells me that a similar thing happened to her a few weeks back going over a speed bump a little too fast ( engine cut out dead) however it did start again straight away no problem. all the best Chris
  5. Thanks for the reply, when the car was smoking i only had the vacuum hose blocked. I have since blocked the nozzle on the diaphram housing ( ufo) also and the smoking has stopped completely. Reading through the forum posts i struggled to clarify wether to block both or just the hose, i assume i need to block both ? thanks, chris
  6. thanks for the replies guys, however its the other end of the pipe(nearside). since posting ive been informed that it is a soldered connection into the condenser and it is unfixable...? chris
  7. ok quick update, just blanked off the egr vacuum hose and taken the vrs for a spin. The difference is incredible thats all i can say. All hesitation is gone and it feels like a different car. Warwick Hunt if your reading this, can i leave it like this without doing the ' elephant hose' mod aswell ? The reason i ask is that there is deffo alot more black smoke out of the back when pushing hard. best regards, chris
  8. bump, anybody familiar with the aircon system ?
  9. Finally got round to getting the aircon regassed in the other halfs vrs tonight. Had the car 11 months and its never been proper cold so it was long overdue, but any way to cut a long story short, the alloy pipe that runs along the top of the condenser radiator with the gas fill point on it has sheared at the bracket where it is attatched to the rad at the top right passenger side.there is approx 1 inch of pipe after the 90 deg bend at the broken bracket ,then nothing. Needless to say the test gas p!ssed out of the end of the pipe. Obviously this is why she has no aircon but without stripping the front of the car down i cant see where i need to see, ie down the side of the rad.My question to anyone who knows is, is this pipe sheared or is there a flexi hose that has come detatched and is it easily sortable ? The end of the pipe feels very slightly tapered/rounded and not like it has fractured but as i said i cannot see what if anything attatches to it without stripping down the top front panel. thanks chris
  10. thanks pal, i assume theres no reason to do the gasket mod if you do this ?
  11. lewwy, did you fit the standard 9mm gasket or did you drill it out a little? just wondering if youve had any warning light come on yet cheers chris
  12. hi Lewwy thanks for the reply. the car is an 06 plate and looking at the state of the filter i assume it is its first change. My thoughts were that maybe the engines breathing better now and its just made the throttle more responsive and thats why it suddenly noticeable? idle seems a little more lumpy but nothing too bad but there does seem a deffinate slight loss in power/boost when accelerating.I seem to remember reading that the chirp noise at max boost was normal. Like i said this has also disappeared since the service.
  13. does this mod cure the 06 stutter? thanks chris
  14. not trying to hijack the thread but just had the 40,000 mile service done (fuel, air,oil and pollen filters and oil change)on our 11 month old vrs and before the service i couldnt really notice the 'stutter' but since the service it is deffinately there. Also getting more vibration at idle and a noise similar to 'exhaust blowing' low in the revs when accelerating which clears after 2000ish revs. I swear theres also a very slight drop in power...The air filter removed was absolutely sh@gged and im wondering if im noticing the stutter now that the engine is now breathing properly. Also the 'chirp' noise i used to hear for 1-2 secs from the EGR valve when accelerating hard has stopped. Anyone any ideas, this is deffo since the service chris
  15. hi, did you get to the bottom of this ? mine is doing the same on the drivers side, sort of a single clunk from around the footwell area but like you said when going over bumps with either wheel usually over 30/40 mph. No noise though at all over speed bumps.
  16. ha ha late reply to this thread but i was gonna ask the same question until i read this! mine does it also, its more of a quick growel although could be a chirp but only does it on heavy load and only lasts a second. Im certain its a valve release going on (EGR). If you dont like it dont drive so hard lol
  17. Thanks for the quick reply ! should have added that i had it looked over thoroughly yesterday and the only thing the mech could find was very slight movement in the ' bottom suspension' bushes that he demonstrated by by rocking the front wheels back and forward showing the strut flexing forward and backwards. Are these the console bushes you are referring to? He did say that they were designed to flex somewhat but that you can buy uprated ones that lock everything solid. I should also add that i can feel the knocking when cruising and only lightly holding the steering wheel but if i hold the wheel firmly with both hands (as we were taught at the 10 to 2 position !!) it virtually disappears.
  18. first post so evening all. As the title says i feel a very slight knock through the wheel when going over minor bumps, more noticeable at A road/motorway speeds. There is no audible noise and there is nothing felt when going over speed bumps at slower speeds. It feels almost as if its the steering column itself. There is zero steering wheel wobble, it tracks perfectly straight and maybe they all do it but anyone get anything similar? I recently reduced tyre air levels to softest recommended amount and it made a big difference, but only to the frequency of the knock and not the 'feel' of it. The car has done 47000 and ive had it since 38000 and its always done it. It handles and drives perfic and i could prob live with it but I KNOW ITS THERE !!
