  1. Thinking of changing my 100,000 mile Yeti 1.2 manual for a Karoq 1.5 petrol DSG Edition front wheel drive.

I know asking a "fuel consumption" question could  contribute to the numbers of replies a "what tyres" question would generate,  but , here goes...

I get over 40 mpg ( calculated on brim to brim as well as on maxidot ) so would I get worse on the above spec Karoq?

  2. My 2013 Yeti 1.2 had No.3 plug lead failure which seemed to cause arcing at the connection with the ignition coil pack on top of the engine.  Need to take photos of position of leads before removing them. Quite simple job but ensure leads routed AWAY from the hot metat shields around plugs. I've got more photos if you need them.

  3. As a six year Yeti 1.2 petrol owner I am interested in the benefits of changing to a petrol Karoq. Mine has a fuel consumption of 42mpg as per MaxiDot which is confirmed by maths on fill-up.

Can Karoq petrol owners say what their consumption is and what size engine?

Anyone having changed to Karoq ( 2wd )  from Yeti- comments would be interesting.  Comfort,  reliability,  flexibility,  gadgets etc.

  4. Yep, I was surprised that the Karoq was 10grand more than I spent on my Yeti.

I'm wary of Peugeot/Vauxhall reliability and longevity, although they are cheaper.

Wonder if Volvo are still quality now they're Chinese........

    Decisions,  decisions......

  5. Karoq - no discount because they can sell all that come into country.

RAV4 hybrid are a year's delay because of battery supply issues.

    No other SUV appeals.

    Oh, well no decision yet.

Do I remember that pic from way back?  It was the first one I'd seen properly showing off the colour :)

Sorry, don't have recent photos to post.....

  7. Now I've covered 100,000 miles in six years, I'm pondering what to swop my Yeti for. The easy option would be a Karoq but I'd really like a plug-in hybrid to take advantage of the free 'leccy from my solar panels.

Any thoughts on Toyota RAV4 as we love the high-up seating position of an SUV? Any other suggestions or ideas?

Any VAG models in the pipeline which may suit?

  8. July 2013 making it one of the last pre-facelift . 1.2 Tsi petrol,  94,000 miles, oil & genuine filter changed at 10,000 mile intervals.  Final drive bearings replaced at end of warranty as were "misting" front shock absorbers.  Heated driver's seat element replaced just after end of warranty ( Grrr ). Original Pirellis replaced  at 50,000 miles with Michelin CrossClimates ( Excellent ) . Last year approximately 80,000 miles the dreaded No 3 plug lead & coil pack failure. Front discs & pads replaced this January @ approx 90,000 miles. Love my Yeti - so comfortable and got all the gadgets.  Would love something similar with plug-in hybrid - any suggestions?

  9. It's a 1.2Tsi Elegance petrol 2013 in Rosso Brunello. Faults sorted as warranty coming to an end:- noisy final drive bearings & leaking front suspension struts.

Heated driver's seat repair- chargeable,  just after warranty expired. Only other fault was coil pack & no3 plug lead failure around 80,000 miles.

    Currently 93,000 miles.

  10. May I suggest that £30 VED is not a good reason for buying an unsuitable car.  Diesels do not take kindly to short journeys so you'd do better with a 1.2 petrol,  saying that, I do around 18,000 miles a year in my 1.2 petrol.  I love it!

  11. Having spent a lifetime in the motor trade, I have read this thread with interest my first thought being "clutches not warranty" . I've carefully read it all and it does sound like "catastrophic failure" not wear due to driving style. ( Wear, as some posts above, CAN be driving style or abuse and therefore NOT covered by warranty ) It would have been interesting for an independent examination of the failed parts.

It would seem that "dieselgate" has negatively affected Škodas attitude to agreeing warranty. I have previously posted about my standing up to the dealer who initially refused to change my front suspension struts when,  just before the three years was up, the MOT found "slight misting" of fluid on them. Souces told me that, until a few  months previously Škoda had routinely accepted warranty claims on struts.

  12. Having been in the Motor Trade for 48 years, I'm usually reluctant to knock them as I've been on the recieving end of customers "trying it on".

"You fixed my brakes last month and they've gone again!" - "No, sir, we replaced your front brake pads and now it's a leaking REAR brake cylinder".

HOWEVER I was annoyed/amused/dismayed when I was told that it would be good to have a cambelt change on my 2013 petrol Yeti - he was covered in confusion when I told him that it had a camchain.

  13. Hmm, I sat in the back of a Karoq in my dealers and thought it had less legroom than my Yeti. Could be a game changer for me as I like to have room for four adults. Would like a plug-in hybrid as I've got solar panels for free leccy, maybe a Toyota RAV4? Opinions please?

  14. Baj,  bigjohn has the probable answer about the valve letting the oil back into the sump when the engine is stopped.  I've done around five oil changes on my 2013 Tsi 1.2 with the 'on top' filter and always put precautionary tags to catch any oil when removing filter but didn't wonder why not much spillage occurred.

  15. When in his twenties, my son enthused about the sports exhaust on his mate's Golf Vr6. I told him I could drill a hole in his exhaust for nothing. A year, or so, later son had a 100 mile trip in said Vr6 and told me how they had to raise their voices to talk - 'nuff said!

  16. PUSH, PUSH, PUSH! It's warranty! Don't be fobbed off. It's a known fault and, prior to "dieselgate" misting or leaking front shock absorbers were regularly replaced under warranty. I had to make a lot of fuss after an "advisory" on my Yeti's first MOT, Dealer was reluctant but, after I'd written to their M.D. , they changed them both - yes, that's the best thing.

  17. Well, Peugeot 3008 taking the top spot in AutoExpress Driver Power survey! This spot was previously a Yeti position for several years and then the Superb. Seem to be a lot fewer Škodas in the top ten this year. I believe in "succession planning" for my car and like to be ready in case a quick decision is forced upon me by outside circumstances.

My main likes about Yeti are reliability, comfort, economic both in MPG and servicing, plenty of room for four adults and the versitility of the rear seats.

How do members think the new Peugeot 3008 measures up 1. To the Yeti and 2. To the Karoq?

Can I overcome my inbuilt prejudice towards French cars - comfortable but unreliable?

  18. Last year we drove our Yeti in one day from Vannes, in Brittany, to catch our Eurotunnel train at 18.00 so had to "press on". Good to have had the option of fitting the spare wheel if it had been necessary - waiting for roadside assistance would have resulted in a missed train. Sorry to read of the reluctance of some (above) to change a wheel - of course it has to be in a safe place. Is it SO hard for folks to do?

Handy hint:- buy a short piece of studding to hang replacement wheel on whilst starting the wheel bolts.

Fabia ať old pits in Reims - sàme reason for a spare.

  19. Further to my recent topic about the post on the  coil unit  burning out, I've replaced Coil Unit & plug leads but looking for advice on upgrading leads.

Any suggestions for better quality leads less likely to break down on No.3 due to getting too hot due to proximity of heat shield?

Is there a sheath-type cover I can put over No.3 lead?

By the way, engine SO much smoother since new plugs, leads & coil unit - one just doesn't notice gradual deterioration.

  20. Ah haaah! When removing No3 plug lead from the coil unit  ( with difficulty as it was stuck ) I noticed white dusty residue. The other three were clen and like new.

Sprayed contact cleaner into No3 on coil unit and compared it to the other three, they all had a central pin but No3 had burnt away which was what the residue was.

NOW.....for my theories:- was the burning fault caused because No3 ignition lead was breaking down due to proximity to heat shield OR is it just coincidence that No3 on coil unit failed?

    Any discussion welcome.

Photos from left:- No4 on coil unit is good, coil unit end of No3 plug lead in vice showing white dust, No3 on coil unit showing dust and missing central pin.

    Thanks
