  1. When I left London on Monday night, started the car after sitting there since Friday and no DPF light. About 4 miles down the road on it came again, I couldn't take my normal route through the Blackwall Tunnel as it was closed so I had to stop start across London East to West then out to the M3. Soon as I increased speed after the lifting of the 50 limit the light went out straight away. I also just experimenting, the car wouldn't rev beyond 3000 rpm in neutral with the DPF light on, but would take off in 1st and up the gear no issue to the red line. Still it got a good stoke up on the way home, and again I've noticed an increase in performance after this DPF with the (ahem) top speed. I don't think there is anything wrong with the car or DPF I'm just not convinced it based entirely on driving style.
  2. All makes interesting reading. On Friday I drove up to East London from Bournemouth normal motorway route and not hanging around, after 2.5 hours of quick motoring then a 30 min run at 50 then down to 30. When I pulled up and reversed in to my space, my DPF light came on which surprised me considering the journey the car had just done. This only the 4th time since October and I'm wondering if the ECU is giving the warning on set intervals.
  3. Personally I would take it back and put the original back in place. Your insurance may only cover the factory fitted unit anyway and any damage caused by a potential thief. There are loads of these type handy gadgets around which would solve your problem. 4. Take a look here : http://www.accessories.skoda.co.uk/productsList.aspx?type=a&id=10&main=Transport+and+Towing⊂=Cruise+Control Looks like you'd have to get your dealer to confirm your ECU type.
  5. Try this link http://www.castrol.com/castrol/iframe.do?categoryId=9024084&contentId=7044829 you just pop in your reg number.
  6. I considered the 107 myself before choosing the Fabia. The 107 was really not a nice car with a terrible quality interior and penny pinching detail all over the car, and after the experience of 07 series cars with friends and family the reliability was always going to be hovering over me. I also looked at the Kia Soul a car with similar lines to the Fabia, and was interested in the Diesel Automatic but stories from the USA market steered me off that. The Fabia ticked all the boxes with a good trade in deal, and the fuel savings have made it a wise choice the only thing so far is the terrible after sales service which hopefully is isolated to that dealer.
  7. The Greenline 'drone' has been mentioned in threads before, it seems to come and go but seems like we all experience it, as to what it is who can say at this point. Hopefully somebody can shed some light on it.
  8. I don't know, I'd quite like to have a go in one. I haven't see any of the new Polo Bluemotion on the road yet around here so perhaps its a bit limp, perhaps a dealer wants to let me loose in a new Greenline for a promo when they get one!?
  9. Its mostly A roads with speeds up to 55-60, but often less because of the traffic and 30 through the urban areas. I notice the difference when the car has the climate control off with the mpg, but I have the digital one and it has a really annoying "OFF" on the screen when not in use, looks very out of place and bugs me! The electronic accelerator though is slightly annoying when on the very lightest of pressure almost as if it is unsure whether to deliver fuel or not with odd very mild jerks, another mm or so and its fine, but its getting the feel right to where the engine is just starting to deliver fuel and when you use it which makes all the difference I find. Gears : 5th generally 40mph and above, around town 30ish 3rd or 4th, but if it labours it uses more fuel so sometimes 3rd around town will deliver 100 mpg. On a flat road ticking along 1500rpm then its flickering away from 95mpg up to 170mpg depending on, well me I guess !
  10. A few weeks ago I managed to achieve 86.9mpg in the Greenline on a 53 mile run from my home in Bournemouth to my parents house near Devizes and I was kinda chuffed with it. I had another try today when I popped up for dinner and to pick up my head lamp protectors which had been ordered at Turners near by. To even out the up hill run from the coast I took today's figure from the return trip of 106 miles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-fnrRGwNQ8 I'm suppose to be flying to Gran Canaria tomorrow but news of ash is coming in so my plan B is just to fill with diesel, cross the channel and head down to Spain if I'm grounded. Who knows.....
  11. yes sorry i fell in to the trap reading the pdf i saved a while back then when i went to the driveway this morning thought that it was wrong. im shod with 165/70r14. which are fine by me and they are cheap to replace. mine in short daily commute is now return 65+ mpg no issues and i dont find the tall gearing an issue with urban driving with 3rd very flexible, and 4th taking you over a ton. With each month that passes and the miles go up the engine becomes more flexible especially at lower rpm and high gears so the the greenline experience really starts in my book after 12k ! each to their own i think with this model.
  12. The size is 185/50 R15 and from new mine has Dunlop SP10A tyres which are wearing very well. They are also cheap to replace with the same Dunlops coming in just over £50 a tyre. Can't comment on the noise as this is the only Skoda I've ever driven but I find it fine. £20 p.a. road tax and 70mpg does it for me.
  13. Personally I do a couple of things which some people think are a little overkill these days, but I take out the wheel arch liners and apply waxoyl to all the exposed body underneath. Not so much for rust protection but simply to add a protective layer in the areas which get forgotten like spring cups, shock mounting which over time collect road muck and salt and eats away. I also coat the suspension mounting bolts, steering bolts etc anything that may need to be changed as a service items, and brake pipes and joints. I buy a metal can full and decant some in to an old saucepan and warm it up SLOWLY on the camping stove in the drive so as not to burn the house down then when its like water use a paint brush and set to work. Top side, I simply wash with Autoglym shampoo which in itself does a great job then use Mer. I had to polish an old Peugeot 104 for display at the NEC show one year, it turned up inside the hall not seeing a bucket of water for about 5 years let alone polish, all I had was a bottle of drinking water some Mer and clothes..... a few hours hard work and it looked great. I've used it on all my cars and its good stuff as long as you use it very thinly.
  14. It looks like its on the ABI list http://www.thatcham.org/abigrouprating so your insurance company should be able to quote.
  15. I know that drone! Yes mine does that too but not always when cold, just put it down to the characteristics of the car, could just be the plastics panels on the bottom of the car and the air flows. I couldn't find anything wrong when looking it over but did give the plastic engine covers a good firm push down too. One of my cover clips at the front is already broken but I can't see this making a lot of difference.
  16. I had a quick play with my TP settings when out this morning. What I noticed is that the TP automatically adjusts the fader. For example, set the normal volume to 20 - then go in to the level 3 audio and set the TP Volume to 20 too, then go in and out of the TP volume setting and you'll notice the sound is focused on the front windscreen pillar speakers when in TP. You could therefore have a faulty speaker in the windscreen pillar only noticed when not drowned out by the door/bass speakers.
  17. I have the same car. I don't use TP that much to be honest but at the weekend heading up to London I did have it on just to get some idea of how challenging the M25 would be to get along. I found Radio 1 would cut in on TP but have no traffic. As I've understood it over the years the TP signal is sent by the transmitting radio station so if they are messing around or forget to activate it or deactivate it then that's the problem, I rarely used it on the old Peugeots as it was much the same issue. I've not had issues with the sound quality of TP. What is your TP volume level set to? Never looked perhaps there are also treble/bass settings on the TP too, just a thought.
  18. Glad its not just me then I was starting to wonder if the legendary service of Skoda was a typical example of what I'm getting, so I shall be heading off to Turners at Erlestoke I expect for the 20k service after the Berlin run later in the year. Thanks to everybody for their responses especially the info on the touring lamp covers. Mat.
  19. Well yesterday still nothing, so I phoned Meadens again. I was told they had heard nothing from somebody called Hayley who apparently looks after warranty claims, would I like to ring her myself (hang on what kind of service is this? self service?) No, I asked them to do it. The call back was the photo proves nothing, almost making it sound like a court. I said I've sent you photos twice now, which they claimed they never received - well it would of been nice to have a call to say so especially as they were expecting them. So, as suggested I asked for Skoda HQ number - its gets better..... she didn't know it..... "Its in your handbook", So you don't know it? "Well you the owner of the car and its provided in your handbook".... She eventually went off and came back with an 0500 number which didn't work, so I used bt.com to find the Milton Keynes number, spoke a to a chap there who seemed quite concerned about the whole situation and actually took some ownership of it. He was surprised to learn about it, and also the dealer's lack of knowledge of the touring headlamp covers. Seeing as I first made the dealer aware of the issues 11-1-10 by first experience of Skoda dealer service kinda stinks. I've ordered my accessories from Turners near where I keep my 504 so hopefully when I pop in on Friday they will be top notch, I recall them being there as Skoda dealers for as long as I can remember!
  20. A while back I got passed a box of my childhood toy cars still in their old milk crate. I tipped them out on to the floor like I would of done 30 years ago and they were just as battered as I remember but I became more interested in the newspaper lining the bottom! Some interested cars for sale back then.
  21. Perhaps, but when it came to trading in the old car there were more than enough Greenline to get put on the road before the 1.6TDi came along so squeezed a mighty deal out of that fact. I don't regret Greenline at all :-)
  22. Had my second DPF light warning on Sunday, drove it quite hard around town in 2nd but didn't clear it. It took up the dual carriage way at 'handbook' rpm in 4th and it took at good 8 miles to clear. There was not difference in performance with the light on. Came back giving it a good italian decoke not even getting in to 5th but still easily keeping up Golf GTi in front if you get my drift. God this car can be fun too :-)
  23. I think I'm going to order a set of protectors, the space to get your hands in and out isn't great an having to do that in the dark as were travelling to Berlin overnight is going to be a pain. I'm going to try Turners of Erlstoke for them, they are a couple of miles from my Dads house and my stash of rusty metal on wheels. They've been Skoda dealers for as long as I can ever remember, so hopefully they will know their stuff.
  24. Perhaps have a chat with http://www.tyresafe.org/ although I think the process is correct that the removed tyres have to be examined by the manufacturer. Considering the age of the car you could have a chat to your local trading standards team about it. My experience though with the motor trade is it become letter after letter to MDs who don't give a hoot, but TS will be able to put you in contact with the relevant governing bodies.
