  1. Depends on whose view it was, mine or my Dads! I guess he liked his Volvo 240, kept it for years and it had a paint job but gave way to what was a cool car in the 80s.... It was a 1987 Peugeot 205 XLD 1769cc diesel. Love it, and it became mine - it was still cool! I think one of the most memorable vehicles was one of these : My parents kept horses so it became my Dad's run around and it was a hardy workhorse. It eventually got scrapped like they all did!
  2. I've heard from a friend of mine who lives a few miles outside Glasgow who has come to the rescue of some of his friends who were visiting. The 'ash' problem closing the sky to air transport means he's taken the plunge and driven them home. Doesn't sound too interesting until the choice of car, a 1982 Talbot Horizon SX Automatic. He says it didn't miss a beat and is running really well, and knowing his driving style its been turning a fair lick of speed no doubt! But...... where did he end up this evening? PRAGUE ! I'm going to get him to write the little adventure up for the Simca club magazine. Does anybody else have any road adventure stories bought on from the ash cloud?
  3. Hi' I've just had the rubber covers off the back again and see no lever. I have found though online the lens covers mentioned in an earlier posting : http://www.grasmere.co.uk/acatalog/New_Fabia_Exterior_Protection.html
  4. The saga continues. Phoned Meadens today to be sold the warranty claims clerk they email stuff to is off sick. WTF? Its been two weeks and no response. So does Skoda only have one person in their offices dealing with warranty claims? When I had the Peugeot it went in to the dealer (far too many times I might add), they would order the part without question if they could see a fault then I would go back and it would be fitted, none of this wait around for weeks on end. Am I being fobbed off or something?
  5. Still had no responce from Meadens on this, or my fog lights. I phoned them today and the best answer I could get was "the boys said you get stickers at Halfords". I explained the car has clear lenses with no markings.... duh ! Worse customer service than Peugeot were giving at Westover, what have I done....
  6. I will keep my eye on the "blip" and if that keeps on then I will get the dealer to look at it, although they still have not got back to me on the headlamp beam bending for Europe. My first contact since buying the car is somewhat poor. I will have to chase again tomorrow. The downhill runs in high gears really holds the car back, and its then the chance to when safe use the low rolling resistance abilities of the Dunlops. Now I'm not saying knock it out of gear as freewheeling wouldn't put you in control of the car............... :-)
  7. I've only had it once in 3000 miles, I do a few miles each way to work and about once a month a motorway run so keeps it clear. Up to the first time it came on I did notice a drop in consumption, the a marked improvement afterwards. I'm interested to hear two drivers saying the cars 'drone' at lower rpm, mine is happy at about 1200 rpm in 4th and 5th. I have started noticing one odd thing on my commute every now and again when changing up from 2nd, lift off completely and dip the clutch and the revs rise by themselves in a blip, which in the action of selecting 3rd and bring up the clutch causes a bit of jerk sometimes, weird but not consistent.
  8. |t surely must be available as a spare part? or perhaps try an online parts breaker for a used one.
  9. Take a moment to check out http://www.britishpathe.com/results.php?search=skoda British Pathe have uploaded their cinema library and you can search it online, these clips are from keyword Skoda and made some interesting viewing! enjoy.
  10. Bournemouth has nearly all Skoda taxi's now, but there is still an early Peugeot 505 diesel wagon with Africa roof rack running around ! If you're town's taxi drivers are anything like ours then they all drive with, lets say enthusiasm so their tail pipes are gusty quite frequently!
  11. It does take some time tuning yourself to how the Greenline sounds and feels to drive and when its happy or not, but once you've mastered this its not so difficult even with the Dance at considerable volume to work with the car to get those sorts of figures. I don't know if the new 1.6 diesel with the same 109g/km will in real driving return the claimed mpg, I don't have a problem generally getting the combined 68.9 in the Greenline. PS Keep a close on those tyre pressures, they can drop which does dent the mpg.
  12. I've been driving my Fabia Greenline since the end of October last year, it now has 12500 miles on the clock. I've several observations with the car, yes it takes quite a bit of getting use to with the taller gearing but I don't find this a disadvantage. My car is happy ticking along at 30mph in 4th, and 40mph in 5th on roads with no gradients, obviously gears are there to be used! The car does need a good booting every so often to clean out the fuel and exhaust system, if you don't do it the warning light will just come on anyway - mine did even whilst on the motorway, so it was drop down a cog and drive for 20 mins at 3000rpm and the car cleaned itself out. Since then, the fuel economy has really gone up too. I decided the other day to see what in real life driving I could get out of it in mpg figures driving from my home in Bournemouth up to my folks in Devizes via Salisbury. so, take a look : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sCYH3eX57o there are a few things to get your head around with the car. The low rolling resistance of the car means you can take advantage of it (however you see fit, ahem!). Read the road ahead and you'll be getting figures like this. My route was in normal traffic volumes, and I kept up with the traffic too. My average 3.5 mile drive to and from work starting from cold, generally returns in excess of 65mpg. The Dunlop tyres on the Greenline are also very cheap to replace, compared to the lower profile ones. Genuine Dunlops are about £55 each all in, although it would be interesting to try and get some comparisons on the rolling resistance of this tyre compared to say Michelin Energy ?
  13. A few I rarely see now, Peugeot 505 ( I think most were bundled off to Africa along with the last of the 504s. Even 504 pick ups are making stupid money on ebay for export still). and vanishing quicker than a whiskey at an AA meeting, the Citroen C15. Birmingham's export to China.....Montego! I've seen a Maestro hatch and a Maestro van recently in the last couple of weeks, a 1987 Mini yesterday and I'm the owner of a Peugeot 504GL and Talbot-Matra Rancho ! I know a chap with a Talbot 1100 pickup truck just 1 of 3 left in the UK. A friend also has a 504TI, and a 104ZS, I don't think I'd have room to list another mates huge collection but does include various Ranchos, Alpines, Solara, Horizons, Sambas.... you've noticed the trend? I belong to Simca Club UK too. My own past run arounds included a '78 104GL, '83 Samba LS both in the last few years, couple of 205s. Both the Samba and 104 did lots of motorway work and they buzzed along flat hour after hour from as far as Scotland through in to France, loved them - space and money as always thinned things out to the 504 and Rancho with my Fabia.
  14. I had a ride in a 1980 Talbot Tagora 2.2GL only a couple of years ago. In the flesh its weirdly kind of OK, the interior and exterior have striking likes not so different from the Citroen XM and there are touches of the car used in later Peugeot's too. It was huge inside, quiet and comfy!
  15. They were an interesting concept which of course made history in influencing the LR Discovery, and the Rancho replacement the Espace opens a whole new chapter. Under the skin though its a standard Simca 1100 with the rear door well plated over inside, just a plastic cover on the outside making it the pickup body - that then having an extension welded on the back and a glass fibre body. It reminds me of turning a Fabia in to a Yeti :-)
  16. Odd that it only does it one side at the moment, practically non transparent in bad frost or dewy mornings.
  17. Hello all, Looks like a great forum which I shall be popping to and from to keep up with Skoda stuff. I bought a nearly new 2009 Skoda Fabia Greenline at the end of October from Meadens, Sway. Drove it from there to Sainsbury's brimmed it with diesel and home, all of about 20 miles. Got up the next night and drove from the Bournemouth coast to Glasgow, and out to Kilbirnie before wondering if really the one bar left on the fuel gauge would mean running out before getting to Largs. For a car I had only driven 20 miles on a slowish test run across the New Forest it performed exactly as I hoped, a brilliant motorway car, economical, and comfy. So far my best mpg over 52 mile run across country Bournemouth->Salisbury->Devizes in moderate traffic returned an indicated 86.9 mpg. I'm getting more aware of the cars ability now especially with the rolling resistances on the Dunlop SP10s. I've added the Fabia to my fleet although its the only one working, for my sins I have : a very slow restoration going on with my 1978 Peugeot 504GL abet with Diesel power. and for when the wrist slashing really needs to start, : one the very few Talbot-Matra Rancho that remain in the UK, this one being a 1982 car from Scotland. I guess by the time I finish these I will be very old and broken myself.
  18. I am just wondering if anybody else has had problems with their front fog lights on the new shape fabia. From the time I bought mine when it was 11 months old I started to notice the passenger side front fog lamp would mist up behind the lens. It's one of those things that I'd forgotten about until the other day, and upon closer inspection it looks like the plastic shell the lens sits on has multiple horizontal cracks in it on the inner side allowing moisture to seep through. On the driver's side there is just two of these starting on the unit. I've popped back to the dealer who photographed it with the moisture that day and said they would sent it off to Skoda. I notice whilst I was there another Fabia Greenline 57 plate exhibiting the same cracking on its driver's side unit. The dealer said she was aware of the Octavia having a problem, but not on Fabia....I'm still waiting to hear. Any advice. Thanks.
  19. I bought the genuine rubber mats, you can just take them out and scrub clean when washing the car. Dealer didn't keep them, had to order! £26 i think.
  20. Hi all, I've had a scan though the search and topics but can't see an answer so hopefully somebody can answer my question. I have a 2009 Fabia Greenline which I will be driving a few times this year in mainland Europe, with one long run to Berlin too. I can't find any reference to switching the headlamps, or masking lines on the lens to black sections to prevent dazzle. I can't see anything on the light units themselves or within the dash controls. Any advice?! Thanks.
