  1. I just fitted the Halfords ones last week - so far they seem to be OK. I usually use Bosch, but I was in a rush, having split the rubber on the old blades due to leaving the wipers on and the windscreen freezing overnight!
  2. Just a bump on this topic to say, "Thank you" to the team at D.M. Keith in Hull. The Yeti went in for a service, no courtesy car booked, but Dale hunted around to find one for me. I also have an answer on the Amundsen+ SatNav update thing ... not great, I'm going to have to pay for that, but it isn't the dealers fault. Will wait until a fresh update is available before making a decision on that. The car came back very much cleaner both inside and outside too!
  3. Have a look at my fuelly data in my signature - I think I'm close to the magical 50mpg these days - 23k miles covered.
  4. I asked the same question when I bought mine over a year ago - it doesn't have DAB. It'll be interesting to see if he can manage to update the maps on the sat-nav as well - I still haven't got it figured - neither has the dealer!
  5. Well, I'm still having trouble updating my maps from Western Europe V4. I went to the dealer - they confirmed the Amundsen+ (at least my model) should be free lifetime upgrades from Skoda. Unfortunately they couldn't tell me the definitive way to update, but pointed me to the Skoda GPS update site. I downloaded the files (all 6GB of them!) and put them on to an SD card, as per instructions. I turn on the Amundsen+, insert the card and eventually get an error "Error: SD card". I've formatted the card as FAT32 and even tried borrowing a windows machine (I'll all Apple) and tried using NTFS - no luck. There isn't a second SD card slot on my set, but I'm assuming I just plug the card into the front slot and it recognises the map update … except it doesn't! Any more helpful tips?
  6. A couple of pictures on my Yeti in the wild.

  9. I bought Goodride tyres and steel rims last winter. They're reasonable tyres - pretty good in the wet, but as we had a very mild winter last year, I can't vouch for their performance in the snow! I did about 8K miles in them and they wore about as much as I expected. Handling with that setup (I used 16" rims) actually seemed to be slightly better than with the standard 17" summer alloys.
  10. Well, I have been less than impressed with DM Keith (Royce Roberts) in Hull in the past, but I have to put pen to paper (OK, type this out!) for the latest from them. We're now on our second Yeti from them and our SE+ satnav system got extremely confused up in Scotland a few weeks ago when I didn't know the new road we were on. I decided we were due a map upgrade and contacted DM Keith about it when the car went in for a service. They couldn't do the upgrade because (they told me) it wasn't available yet, but for me to call them back in July. I called back and had an interesting conversation with Dale and although he couldn't answer my questions, he said he'd call me back … and he did! This has to be the first time anyone has ever called me back about a question … not only that, he's called me back twice now! I was very sceptical at first when DM Keith took over, but it looks like it's working - I am an impressed customer! … now if only Dale can sort out my queries, I'll be VERY impressed!
  11. I've got a noisy fan on the air conditioning, so that's one.
  12. Log into Fuelly.com, then How do I use a Fuelly forum signature/badge?A Fuelly forum signature (or badge) is an image that you can use to sign your posts at vehicle discussion forums. The instructions for adding a forum signature will be different for different forums, but here's a general outline: Go to the forum you participate in and see if they have a "signature" feature that allows images. If so, find out if the forum uses "BBCode" or "HTML" to include images. Once you know, go to Fuelly and click on your vehicle. On the vehicle detail page, click the yellow badge icon under Recent Fuel-Ups. It looks like this: On the "Fuelly Signature" page, choose the image you want. Copy either the HTML or BBCode for your image. Go to your forum and paste the code into the form for updating your signature. The main thing to keep in mind is that you need to copy a little bit of code from Fuelly and paste it into the right form at your forum. Hope that helps.
  13. Well, I'm on my second 110 diesel and am very happy with it. Economy? Look at my signature box. Refinement is (for me anyway) pretty good and I'm quite happy with the five speed box. I'd say about 40% of mu driving is urban and the rest is twisty country roads. I'm not a hooligan though - I'd say I was just an average driver.
  14. It seems to release the catch (or it does on our Yeti) - makes it a lot easier to open the tailgate with an armful of stuff.
  15. I assume you've found the press and hold function of the middle button on the key fob?
  16. Could it be originating from your heater fan? When our SE+ was a few months old, it developed an annoying tick when the engine was either idling or at low revs. We finally got it down to the fan in the heater - switch off the air conditioning and it went away. Over time the noise has died down and as the car will be due a service soon, I've added this to the list of "things to look at" - but to be honest, it seems to have gone away on its own.
  17. We're on our second 2WD 110 TDi, manual - it takes me everywhere we want to go, returns around 50mpg and is quite capable of breaking all the speed limits (should we so desire, of course). Unlike some others, I've not had a problem with stalling and I don't notice any turbo lack - certainly nothing like previous vehicles.

    wheel theft

So, does this mean that if I come out one morning and the Yeti is up on bricks, with all four wheels gone and I didn't have locking wheel nuts, my insurance will still pay up?

    wheel theft

A friend had all four alloy wheels stolen off his Corsa while parked outside our house - he didn't have locking wheel nuts.
  20. Oh! A real boys 4x4 day out then? :-)
  21. Would you care to elaborate on the "reputation"?
  22. From their website: "Conventional 4×4 type vehicles will be able to accomplish the majority of the route. Before undertaking any section drivers must assess both the capabilities of their vehicle and driving ability. A conventional 4×4 can be regarded as a vehicle with good ground clearance, four wheel drive and a centre locking differential or equivalent drive system." Looks like us 2WD types are out then - unless some alternative can be organised.
  23. We've driven the Kielder Forest Drive in our previous 2WD Yeti - there are places where the surface is better than what we pay our road tax for! I don't know about the Safari though - there are bits of Kielder which are a little rough to say the least. Why don't you just go do it and then let the rest of us know what it's like? We can get Tim to organise the Spring 2014 meet there! :-)
  24. Fitted my winters yesterday. The rims and tyres. With the addition of a set of very cheap Aldi wheel trims because my wife said the naked wheels looked crap!
  25. I think there are several people looking for a solution to this - I've been trying to get a direct battery feed for ages - although to be honest, I've now got a bodge which works - i.e. routing the wire over the wing and through the door seal (as, for my requirements it's only a temporary installation). I did look at taking a feed directly from the power socket beside the gear lever, but haven't done that yet - some people reckon that would introduce some noise into the supply - something you don't want with audio (or in my case, a radio).
