  1. My 1.2TSI build date Aug 2010 is now on variable servicing. It was on fixed and came due at 9300 but when serviced and switched to variable it said Next Service in 18000. Two of my local dealers said Variable wasnt possible on the Fabia but the dealer I used says it was and made the switch. It is now saying Next Service due in 15000 miles as I have done another 3000 since the service so I am sure it is working correctly
  2. I think that if you use the handbrake at an uphill junction which is the instinctive thing to do it switches off the hill hold and you can roll back before the DSG engages. It takes a while to trust that the hill hold will work and not use the handbrake
  3. My thoughts exactly re tyre noise - my summer tyres are Contis. My winters are 185/55 15inch steels and not only are they much quieter but fuel consumption was much better. Where I was getting 54 mpg on my commute to work it is now 51 so I am going to fit narrower tyres when it comes to change them - 195/50 16 give almost the same rolling radius as the 205/45 16.
  4. My car now says that I have 18000 miles before the next service so Variable Servicing is possible on Fabias. As for the other 2 dealers perhaps we need to have a log of poor advice that Briskys have had from their dealers!
  5. Thanks for that - I have just looked at the handbook Page 18 which states that the Service Interval display is the same for Variable QG1 as it is for QG2 Fixed which suggests that the Fabia can be Variable. Will update when I have done 500 miles in a fortnight or so.
  6. I am pretty sure mine is QG0 - if it cant be switched how does one get it as it wasnt offered as an option by the supplying dealer even though I asked for it.
  7. Their price with standard oil is £149 The other two one was more one was less but the cheaper one is much less convenient Forgive my ignorance but what is vcds.
  8. My TSI105 DSG came with fixed Service intervals and I have just had the 10k service done for £188 incl loan car insurance. I have asked them to switch to variable servicing which they have done and they have used Long life oil. My question is can I tell in the Maxidot display ( or anywhere else)if it is now Variable? Interestingly I called 2 other local dealers for quotes and both were adamant that the Fabia could not be switched to Variable despite what is shown in the handbook. Does anyone know who is right?
  9. I run my 105TSI DSG almost exclusively on Shell Advance 95 and have had no problems during 5800 miles. The maxidot suggests I get 46-48 mpg on my cross-country commute - in reality 43ish during the cold weather (down to -7.5 C) and on one occassion when it was warmer I got 53 so I believe the engine is running fine. I have had a couple of rough running moments usually after a hot restart but they last so briefly that it is difficult to analyse. After these posts I will be trying 98 for a couple of tankfuls and will advise further. I still think the TSI engine is brilliant and would not swap to a diesel - I used to be a devout diesel fan.
  10. On the subject of bulb upgrades has anyone upgraded their DRL bulbs to LEDs and would the potential lower running cost justify the cost of upgrading? I have seen some advertised but they are for styling purposes and not road legal. I would hate to buy and find that they dazzle other drivers.
  11. In the handbook it states that you can change the second speed display from KMs to MPH. but when I select the Setup menu this option is not there to select! Has anyone else experience of this? I did find the secondspeed display very useful when in France recently and find that I can read numerals quicker than reading where the speedo needle is pointing to, particularly in daylight when the speedo is not illuminated. I am finding that as the car runs so quietly and performs so well on very light throttle particularly in 30mph limits I am going faster than expected The car is a 105 TSI DSG Elegance so has the Maxidot display
  12. I ordered my 105TSI DSG in white with sunroof in first week in June and took delivery last Saturday via Drive the Deal. Could these long delivery times be due to an individual dealers allocation? as my local dealers quoted up to 20 weeks.
  13. My dealer has contacted Skoda Technical and been advised that disabling the Curve function also removes the left hand kickup in the beam pattern so makes it OK for use in France. I am not convinced as against my garage door the kick up looks unchanged after Tourist mode is selected. I havent had chance to try it yet but will report back when I return from France. Incidentally I tried Skoda Customer Service who didnt know what a Curve Projector headlight was and advised that I should fit beam alignment stickers! Has anyone ever received a helpful reply from them - thank goodness for Briskoda.
  14. Thanks for that , I have searched other posts which make reference to configuring the "tourist mode" with the Maxidot display but the Fabia seems to be different to other models. On page 49 of the handbook it describes the procedure where you select Reverse and adjust the Beam height switch which then disables the side to side swivel of the headlights but it also says on page 150 that a bezel needs to be switched over by a dealer. Has anyone experience of this and can I do it myself. I am going to France on Thursday and cant get to my dealer before then so any advice will be greatly appreciated.
  15. My new 105 TSI DSG hopefully arrives this week and then I am off to La Belle France. I have ordered Projector lights and see in the handbook that there is a "Tourist Mode" which alters the beam. Does anyone have any experience of these and can advise whether I will also need beam deflectors. To be honest I have taken a chance with these but as I do a lot of country lane driving I thought I would give them a go
