  1. Chapters are OK, it's the WiMP that can't handle them. I'd recommend VLC (Video Lan Client) since it bypasses all annoying restrictions on the discs (no more "can't fast forward" ads!) VLC media player - Overview
  2. If you won't need wifi upstairs you could just make an Ethernet wire. If you need to move the phone socket... here's what I found: http://www.wppltd.demon.co.uk/WPP/Wiring/UK_telephone/uk_telephone.html
  3. THe first ones are Lada's for sure (the lada sign is something like a sailing boat or something) Image3 looks like a lada but seems to have skoda's lights fitted Image 9 is a Fiat 125p
  4. AFAIR you could install Alchemy on almost all linksys 54 series, and that's a patched version of their linux (with some additional features too).
  5. If you only want to use it for HTTP traffic you can try setting up a HTTP proxy (with authentication and SSLing the "last-mile" channel from you at all times) This way it will look as normal SSL traffic to a webpage (the session hello packet and stuff).
  6. Thanks... and I wish I knew 9141 was only some kind of other related specification, but ISO's prices are too high for an average student to afford :P Oh, and BTW would anyone be interested in a microcontroler with LCD display support to read stuff from the ECU? I suppose I'll publish the schematic+software somewhere anyway, but if there will be many users I'll try to make it easier to customise (not all data can be shown at once).
  7. Just wanted to ask if anyone knows what protocol is used in '97 Felicia 1.3 SPI on the diagnostic bus (only ground/Vbatt/ISO-K pins are present). The possibilities are: ISO 9141 - maybe ISO 14230 (Keyword 2000) - negative... this standard came after the car was made Keyword 1281 - probable, typical to VAG cars The question to everybody with an RS-OBD2 wire and an early Felicia: Can you communicate with the ECU through ISO9141? Or does it only speak KW 1281? Update: I noticed VAG-COMs display the protocol currently used, so it'll probably check for the native KW1281 and it's compatibility can be checked... I don't know if it can be forced to use some other protocol if KW1281 is present.
  8. Water is way to reflective to see the depth... so it's CG... besides the day-night gradient is 18deg wide... not 3deg
  9. Well the basic differences between my friend and those people is that: a) my friend knows English knows his rights c) is not stupid I know these people are there because of their stupidity (they think everyone can take their passport) and they are afraid to leave because they don't have the money to get back (the company has the tickets and wanted the money up front) My friend left because he knew if he got near London (had some cash - so no prob here) there are people who could keep him for a night and that he would find a job anyway, and he didn't care much about the return tickets. However most of the people who got that job (thorugh our own official Employment Offices ) were extremaly poor so they spent most of the cash for paying the company up front.
  10. Well, you might have heard (or not) about S&A Davies taking advantage of immigrants by credit loop contracts (people have to pay for accommodation and they are not given enough money for their work to pay for it) and holding their passports hostage (which is illegal). People are working in polytunnels (in the heat) many of them are fainting and the security just carries them out of the tunnel on the grass and leaves them there. And are offered around 5 squid per crate, but if they don't reach the daily norm (depends on the manager) which is often not achievable (rotten or already picked fields) they are not paid. I know all these people are not too bright (why aren't they reporting it to the cops) and also most of them don't know English and are scared. Here's a video material (bottom of page, click "zobacz film") http://uwaga.onet.pl/1348658,1,archiwum.html you might not understand much, but the "accommodation" is shown (35 pounds/week), basically a field of cargo containers 4beds/each, no running water nearby. And to keep things straight I have a confirmation of the general conditions in Herefordshire, from my friend who left the whole thing the first day when he saw the conditions and the managers attitude. So what do you think about that? Would you buy from major companies who are practicing slavery in UK?
  11. WEP is not safe enough. Breaking 104bit WEP keys takes only a few days of listening on standard traffic (and there are no longer WEP keys) and your PCs always broadcast their MACs without encrypting so a good listener might just grab a MAC he overheard and wait until you turn the PC off. WPA is more secure, and you should use it if your Access Point supports it... but still you can be flooded. The best way of going secure is turning SSID broadcasting off and reducing the range only to the area you really need (your house) by manipulating the antenna and reducing the transmission power (possible in most not-cheapest Access Points)
  12. If you mean AM on 27MHz... truckers in Central Europe sure do, mostly because everyone here is used to AM on the 19 and flipping the switch to FM reduces chances of hearing where the bears are to zero. (check 26.830MHz AM for Polish truckers abroad for example ) As I've heard most of the old base station CBers moved to HAM or just grew up and bought mobiles. Mostly drivers and drivers' helpers stayed, since there's no other thing in the world with navigation, radar warning and traffic announcements for that price. And since the removal of licenses in Poland 6months ago there are a lot of kids who just annoy people... but that's an another story. anyway 73! (I'm not used to 10 codes :P) another week without internet access begins...
  13. Over here the "good old days" are said to be over too. But I borrowed Alan 39 for a week recently. And it seems channel 19 is very alive... well I think we should move the I<3CB discussion somewhere else . so http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?p=505479
  14. I'm making this topic mostly out of curiosity + I don't want to make much OT chit chat in other threads. So what's your story with the CB?
  15. The problem is I've got the box there (the older type, but still takes up that space) it's the forementioned gearbox stick console... but there's a lot of air behind it, and I was thinking about placing the radio behind the plastic... if only the gauges and buttons were easier to access :/ And a general (a bit OT question to jifster): what's the legal situation with CBs in UK? (what channels and modes are allowed? any papers needed?) 73!
  16. I'm thinking about getting a CB for my Felicia, but I have no idea where to fit it... I've seen some photos of non-damaging antenna mounts, but I can't find any photos showing a good position for the box itself in a Felicia with the gearbox stick console. Personally I was thinking about mounting it between the wheel and the centre of the car (where the OBD socket should be) or behind the console. But I'm still not sure where to place it (it needs to be accessible for the driver) If anyone has had any experience with a CB in a Fel, please share them, thanks.
  17. *just read the link from DGW* If anyone gets annoyed my MSN enough to search for an alternative I suggest Google mail - didn't get any spam yet and I've got some invitations if anybody wants them...
  18. Mass production doesn't always mean crapness (if you can find PC thats parts haven't been mass produced tell me ) But I have to agree on the Supermarkets and meat products. It's quite common to "refresh" the meat in a salty solution (the meat gets the bright red'n'fresh colour again) but I hope that your health inspection is better than ours (in Poland) and that you don't have to worry about that kind of things. There even was a large affair about a meat corporation that "refreshed" and repacked all their returns (counted in tons) so the sausages and other stuff was sent to some supermarkets, been there for some time, got returned, refreshed and might have gone through the cycle several times (as a result some of the samples were over a months past their "Best before" date). Of course our health inspection didn't discover that, a TV station did. BTW The corporations name is Constar if you happen to find some exported stuff.
  19. If you don't plan using 64 bit depth (used only in professional polygraphy AFAIK) you can try GIMP (it's free - both as in freedom and as in no-cost): http://www.gimp.org/ It's not better or worse than Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. It just has a different interface (which can be changed - vide GIMPshop: a GIMP hack that makes the interface more Photoshop like). So I suggest going through some of its tutorials first and then looking at a demo/trial of Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. After that you should understand how to do things from PS/PSP tutorials. P.S. I suggest using clean GIMP (without GIMPshop) since many GIMP specific tutorials are meant for the original interface.

    Hello

Hi, I found this forum in Google. I hope both the archives and the people here will help me find some interesting info on my Skoda...
