  1. Rang round 3 of my closest "participating retailers" from the following website (as mine is due a service) http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/online-service-booking/online-service-booking And assumed national pricing meant that I would pay the same price at each one. Wrong! by ringing round I managed to save myself nearly £100 pounds. So my car needs (and it should roughly cost inc labour): Service = £250 DSG Oil/filter = £180 Brake fluid change = ? £45 ish Pollen Filter = £21 Total £496 (quoted £490 from one centre) Booked it in at (not my closest) approved Skoda dealer service center for £400 :-) Still, gonna sting my bank balance :-( Anyone else experienced the same?
  2. Love the EZ-lip - my kind of price too! excellent tip thank you very much!
  3. +1 powerflow they can make you anything you like. Probably speeling dual correctly would help!
  4. Has anyone fitted this to the facelift mk2? tempted for the low outlay involved but i certainly won't be spending £169 on a bit of plastic
  5. If it's an auto the 40,000 mile gearbox oil change.
  6. Yes - true. however using paddles through a corner or on a roundabout is quite hard unless you cross you arms over! At that point you need the up/down of the stick. IMO if they can install a tilt sensor for downhill which downshifts, they should have put one in for corners!
  7. Yep +1 for re-circ :| sadly the wrong sort of engine for the "PSSSSSTTTTHHHHHHHHHH" effect you're after... Get a cheap one off ebay as they are built the same as the forge items which cost ALOT! Induction kit would get you a bit more noise?
  8. +1 for DSG. However... In my diesel it seems almost too eager to save you pennies on fuel by changing up rapidly through the gears. On corners and through roundabouts (not on take-off) it can be lazy and try and trundle through the corners instead of changing down. It does amaze by knowing when you are going down a steep hill as it holds you in high gear down the hill! But is so easy to flip into sports mode for nipping round the twisty roads/roundabouts and you can always flip to manual and use the paddles/stick to change when you like Win win! be as lazy as you like! or not?
  9. Have always loved black grills and have bought one religiously for my last couple of cars (BMW's) and have been put off by the high cost of the superskoda item as the previous ones i have got from eBay for around £30. Cheapest option is this http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/274394-octavia-black-front-grill/ I have just bought a can but due to awful weather have not sprayed mine up yet... search ebay for plastidip, and then search you tube on how to spray it on, looks very easy and can be peeled off. Lots of folks seem to admire the chrome sprayed to colour match the car but would be expensive from the dealer or look rubbish if you try and rely on a halfords rattle can. Or you could just buy this which I very nearly did http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111242802615?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 But I cant justify spending that much on a grille. Also, you can spray up the grille without removing it as per a different thread which i cannot be bothered to find
  10. ok. this seems very strange! I can find no other hands free kit (maybe a very thorough inspection is required...) and it still does not explain why through the MFD I saw an old phone that had been paired. :-( Mic looks like a twin mic: what on earth parrot kit does it go to? could the original owner of the car have upgraded the mic maybe? need to have another look at my original spec from the factory!
  11. Ok thanks for that... I'm away from the car for a week but will have another play when i get back! I've got the parrot microphones above the rear view mirror, not looked under the seat though. Didn't see that option in the Phone menu, It goes Bluetooth-Paired phones-no phones paired. That's the only options i get.
  12. Thanks for that, I've tried scanning from my phone and it does not find the Skoda. What does the skoda appear as if you search for it from your phone?
  13. I definitely have Bluetooth! I press the phone button on the steering wheel and it simply says "scanning for devices" forever! I have ensured the Bluetooth is enabled on my phone and it is visible when I sit in the car but the message stays the same. I've waited a good few minutes and the message stays. There was a phone paired in the past (which wasn't mine and I have deleted...) and I have tried the "reset factory settings" and the car message changes to "initialising phone" then back to "scanning for devices" Any ideas please?
  14. Hi all I have been away for quite some time and since my last Octy mk1 VRS 1.8t I have had a BMW 330D and a 535D but have now seen the light of "sensible cars"!!!!! And bought myself a VERY well spec'd 2010 VRS in amazing blue and I have to say it has not been a down-grade. The car is amazing, trundling along in Drive with fantastic MPG (almost double my 535!) and then switch it up to sports mode and it's off! Paddle shift is great and the car drives like a dream. It's good to be back, especially as there are no immediate noticeable problems with this incarnation of the Octavia! Looking forward to all your constructive feedback! Stu.
  15. black! and more black. Alloys, front grill, tinted windows, black roof even???!!! To make it really stand out have the roof, bonnet and boot wrapped in carbon fibre! That would look..... very stand out - ish!!!! Not sure about the pin stripes, definitely a Marmite kind of thing! Good luck

  18. Funnily enough - the faults were not mentioned on the advert :wonder: , are not obvious faults to the eye/test drive and they are all common faults. None of these faults appeared on the test drive in fact. no noises, nothing. Shame, could have been a really good car....
  19. Gone!!! Glad to see the back of it to be honest, it had the following faults in the 1 month I owned it: Screeching brakes in reverse (very loud and embarrassing) clicking faulty air recirc motor (very loud and annoying) anti roll bar end missing anti roll bar bush missing groove in brake front brake disc (which means both front discs and pads needed replacement) squeaking seat against arm rest split engine breather pipe bone crunchingly hard suspension... felt like i had damaged something every time i went over a bump puncture in one tyre massive fuel consumption apart from that the turbo pulled very well and was very fun to drive, if you could ignore all the other faults. Glad to be shot of it.... now I can concentrate on the following three vehicles: cbr 125r gsxr 600 golf m5 gt 170 see you on another forum! BYE and thanks for all past help x
  20. which one to buy then without spanking £200+ ????
  21. No expert but cold air + hot air = warm air!!!!!
  22. "the grill in the front only has a couple of holes in it it sits more in the front" In a standard grill yes, just thinking about heavy rain coming through when driving at speed and hitting the paper filter. Esp. With aftermarket grills.
  23. You might have better luck posting this question in the fabia section. Most universal filters come with a few different size adapter rings to suit, then add a cold air flex pipe.
  24. Your assuming that he intends to inform his insurance company... Lol
