  1. wow.....so much good info...I am well impressed by all your excellent responces...many many thanks...although I am more confussed than ever...... .....although I consider myself a "diesel" junky purely due to the fact that it suits my driving style (ie lazy)....but thanks to all your replies I willl ignore the "percieved" benefits of the greenline, and opt for a standard 1.6......I think the small engine / high power engines may well give problems later in their life, (they must be well "stressed" to get that sort of power out of such a small engine),...... ... again I really apreciate all the feedback...and at least i hope it has given every body a chance to get things off their chest... Stu
  2. Hi all, many thanks for your replies...I will start searching and pricing!!
  3. i and thanks for the reply. Howeve I do not think I explained myself very well...I am planning to change the car anyway...I was just wondering if the greenline model is worth it over the "standard" 1.6 model... Thanks
  4. Hi there, thinking of changing my55 plate Octavia Elegance 2ltr Diesel for a newer model, (2010 'ish). Is it worth gowing for the greenline variant for the economy? I am aware it has les power than the 2 ltr, but I gave up speed for economy a while ago. My current Octavia fuel computer tells me I am getting 60 mpg, but I know this overreads by about 10-15 mpg. Actual tank to tank figure suggests about 45 - 50 mpg. I tow a small caravan, (very occaional), and at the mo probably only do about 10k miles per year? Any comments appreciated. Thanks
  5. hi Grr...many thanks for your reply. I will certainly follow this up and see if I can find out anything obvious..appreciate your help
  6. Hi all, 2lt diesel Octavia ASR light comes on after exactly 10 mins. Found another thread on the problem but relates to 1.9 fabia. Engineer has checked and it doe not appear to be the gearbox cable. However a diagnostic check has identified an alternator problem? (NB No problem with battery charging, and have had this fault for the last 2 months). Should I just replace the alternator? any idea how much (2nd hand / refurbish would do)....or any other advise ref this issue. Many thanks
  7. Just had mine done, full cam belt kit, tensioners water pump for £250 at a local nonfranchise... Stu
  8. Hi anybody, just prior to getting home a noticed a "light rubbing type noise from the rear. When checked found that the rear dsc brake guard had almost corroded away and was hanging loose. Have now removed it. Does this need to be replaced, and if so how urgent? any input welcome... Stu
  9. Hi There..and thanks for the replies. I think the second one may be the problem. They are the rear sensors, and they have been "intermitent", but now are US. At the same time the rear washer pipe came off, and now the wiper motor is also US....could be "water"??? Stu
  10. Hi There, have a 2005 Octavia and the parking sensors have just stopped working....is this a "common problem", and can anybody advsie a "fix" or is it back to the garage for new units? Any response welcome, many thanks...Stu
